Mira returned with the cake and wiped the sweat on her forehead. " Quick, quick sit down. . . let's retouch your makeup. . . I don't want the boss to see you like this." She heard Maggie said with a chuckle and smiled at her gratefully.
Maggie carefully applied the makeup as her heart filled with envy but comforted herself, as her wish would come true very soon.
" Here. . . all done." She flashed a mirror in front of her with a fake smile.
Mira's eyes lit up as she watched herself in the mirror. Her short brown hair was slightly coiled on the right and the delicate makeup on her face made her think she was staring back at another person. " Thank you, Maggie," she whispered gratefully. Her heart swelled with happiness as she looked at her friend who had been working tirelessly to make sure everything looked perfect.
" Nah, it's nothing Mira. . .hehe, I'm just very excited to see the outcome. . . I think the party would be over by now. Lemme get boss..." Maggie replied while scoffing inside then she paused and carefully added." And make sure he drinks the wine to set up the romantic atmosphere, before confessing your feelings...okay?.".
Mira nodded slowly with a smile and watched as her friend ran out of the building, heading towards Zach's apartment. She heaved a deep sigh and fumbled with her clammy hands as she surveyed the table to make sure everything was set. Her heart was beating rapidly as she waited for Zach to appear.
A few minutes later, she looked up through the fence and saw Zach sauntering toward the building in his pajamas, she shifted in her seat and looked down, hiding her blushing face.' It is time'.she thought nervously.
Zach walked toward his brother's apartment and wondered why Mira was looking for him. He frowned when he remembered the words Maggie whispered to him before she left. " Be careful ".why would he be careful? what would his best friend possibly do to him? He scoffed inside, finding her words absurd.
He nimbly leaped over the fence and landed on his brother's poolside as she had told him that was where Mira was waiting.
He halted with a gasp as he stared at the view in front of him. The huge table was decorated with candles whose lights shone the whole place and a flower vase was placed at the center with all kinds of desserts circled it. He gulped and slowly walked forward as his eyes were fixed on the delicacies. Then his attention darted to Mira who was sitting across the table and his jaw dropped. ' Wow ' he whispered subconsciously and his heart wavered. If she looked beautiful some hours ago when he saw her in that dress, then her looks now were indescribable.
" Mira what's up." Zach flashed her his signature smile and started digging in the desserts.
Mira watched nervously as he devoured the desserts, wondering what she was going to say. Her eyes shifting between him and her shoes then remembered what Maggie told her. ' oh the wine, maybe it will make me confident.'
She smiled at him and uncapped the wine bottle nervously. Then poured herself a glass and quickly gulped it down then remembered she had to pour one for him too.
Zach took the wine from her hand with a chuckle and gulped it down. Why was she nervous?. He was about to ask why she had wanted to see him when he received another glass again.
Mira was about to pour another wine for herself when Zach stopped her. " Hehe, do you want to finish the whole glass?, why did you__" he stopped mid-sentence when he felt something weird coursed through his system. He felt his body slowly heating up and his vision blurred before everything turned into darkness.
Mira had also lost consciousness by then and her body shivered as she fell hard on the cold floor.
At the far end of the fence, Maggie laughed in accomplishment as she watched them, not expecting the foolish girl to act out her scheme perfectly.
She quickly called out to a guy she spotted at a distance, wondering why he had not left yet.
" What is wrong, " the guy asked with a frown while walking toward her.
" Please help me, I need to carry them inside. they're drunk." She pointed over the fence worriedly and said rapidly. the guy quickly nodded before they both ran toward the next building.
Some minutes later, after they settled both of them on Zach's bed, Maggie thanked the guy and also left the apartment with a triumph smile knowing that the drug would start taking effect any minute from now.
Inside the room, the atmosphere was already intense, as clothes were ripped apart. Not able to control the urge that suddenly overcame them. They both knew it was not right but the temptation was too hard to endure and finally succumbed to it, leaving regrets for the future.
__ The Next Morning __
Zach slowly opened his eyes and sat down on the bed with a groan while holding his forehead which was throbbing painfully. His eyes sluggishly wandered to his side and widened instantly while his mouth hung open.
Everything that happened last night came flooding his senses and he realized it was not a dream. He stared at the girl beside him with shock for some minutes, before his eyes turned cold. Was that why she had called him to eat the desserts, just to drug him?. Her image had shattered in his mind not expecting her to stoop so low even though she liked him, and he felt a wave of burning anger building up in his chest.
Mira stretched her body and wondered if the dream she had was true as her body was aching all over. She opened her eyes with a frown and was met with Zach's furious expression.
"Zach..." she whispered with a gasp and jerked up, then felt cold air on her skin and realized she was naked, and quickly covered herself with the bedsheet. So it was not a dream. The painful and passionate night was all real. But why would Maggie do that to her? She remembered drinking the wine before passing out, which would have also happened to Zach. So that was why she kept reminding her to make sure he drank the wine. Her heart broke into pieces and she looked toward Zach while controlling the urge to burst into tears. " Zach. . ., I didn't__, " she slowly whispered but was cut off by him.
