Chapter 2 - The Art Of Magic

What is magic? What fuels magic? What are the possibilities of magic? These are all questions Jason once had.

"Magic is another word for spells master. It is a force which we don't fully understand that can be used in mysterious ways." Jason was sitting cross legged with beads of sweat rolling down his face. His simple tunic was soaked in sweat and reeked of a pungent odour. Most likely an order born from Jason's hard work.

"Good job, pupil." The raspy voice of aged man came out. A skeletal being draped in black cloth was standing behind his student.

It was a empty room with black stone walls and dark, wooden beams. In the centre a circle was drawn. In each corner was a different item of different origin that Jason didn't fully understand.

"What is mana, pupil?" The skeleton spoke again. Beads of sweat rolled down Jason's forehead as he struggled to form words.

"Mana is…. Fuel!" Jason didn't have the energy to say anything else.

The skeleton inwardly sighed before speaking again.

"Until you can recite all the rules properly, I won't be able to teach you any further magic. Go and practice your spells." The skeletons once empty hand became full with a potion. Jason noted the black glow coming from the skeletons ring.

The skeleton threw the potion to Jason. It landed in his lap and not long after Jason greedily opened the potion and drank it until it was empty.

"Yes master…" Jason looked tired but quickly hurried off into another room. In the new room the walls were reinforced with some dark metal and skeletons were stationed at random.

'Off to it then…' Jason, although diligent, honestly wanted nothing more than to rest.

'Just gotta power through. Power through.' With a stable mind Jason stretched his hand forward. Like the skeleton, Jason also had a black ring on his hand. It glowed a subtle black and a book appeared in his hand.

Jason remembers when the skeleton first gave him this book.

"This book is for your spells. Any of your spells that you won't specialize in at-least. You have immense potential but must first learn to use normal magic before you can delve into my arts. Spells belonging to the domain of fire, for example, can go in hear." The skeletons flame flickered in glee at the sight of a fresh grimoire. If he spoke his thoughts aloud he would be saying how he remembers when he was first discovering magic.

"Why can't you just give me a magic book?" Jason's question was innocent in nature but summoned wrath in the skeletons eyes. The green flames burning in the skeletons eyes became violent.

"No knowledge is free! And to truly master the art of magic one must apply themselves! You will take notes or you will leave! I will not accept mediocrity young pupil!" The skeletons sudden enthusiasm startled Jason at the time, but now, he knew…

The art of magic is truly inspiring!
