Synopsis
Raymond Steelheart, the son of the world's most revered hero - Naomi Steelheart. Born from the unknown affair of his human mother and the demon king, he was kept as the secret child between the two, raised until he was 5 years old. After a brutal war between the two races, he was met with the death of both of his parents and told that the current hero sacrificed her life to take the Demon King's. Taken in by his aunt, he lives there for 13 years, undertaking secret hellish training to become the next hero. But not everything is as it seems. Why did his parents have to fight so suddenly? What was the point of becoming the next hero? And why would his mother try to kill his father in the first place!? _____ I do not own the story cover, it is a panel from the manhwa 'Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint'. However, I did edit it a bit so that it would fit with the theme of my own story.

Chapter 1 - Prologue 1: A Deathly Descent

"KYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!" I screamed at the top of my lungs. "DAD STOOOOOOOOOOOOOPPPPPPPPPPPPPP!!"

"Raymond, I am telling you this for the hundredth time already!" The Demon King exclaimed, "I am going to catch you when you fall!"

As you might be able to see, I am currently in a very dangerous predicament, one that involves my life.

To get straight to the point, my father - Desmond Valier - is the current Demon King, while my mother - Naomi Steelheart - is the current Hero of the World.

And here the, quite possibly strongest man in the world, was tossing his kid high above clouds like an absolute fool.

For a few seconds, being above the clouds, under a radiating sun, with no company but a few birds, was strangely relaxing. That is until gravity caught up with me.

Hurtling towards the ground at a monstrous speed, I closed my eyes out of fear and tucked my body into a compact ball, all during which tears of terror managed to escape my eyelids.

"DESMOND! YOU ARE GOING TO HURT HIM!" my mother shouted.

Pushing away my father, Naomi ran towards my area of impact, chanting a spell at speeds which I couldn't comprehend. And in mere seconds, a wall of air materialised beneath me, cushioning my descent.

Letting out a sigh of relief, Naomi scolded, "What were you thinking when you threw him up so damn high? No five-year-old will be able to live from that!"

"I'm telling you, only our little boy can, since he has daddy's genes!" boasted father.

Slowly opening my eyes, I found myself lying on the grass, greeted by my parents' faces in front of me.

"Dad! I told you not to do that until I could use magic!" I shouted.

"Oh please. there is no way I would wait until you are 11 to do that!" he retorted.

In this world, full of magic, demons, and demihumans, there has always been a constant tension between two opposing races, namely the Humans, and the Demons. The reason for the deadlock of power was that each race had its own characteristic which defined them.

The vampires would have a long, near-immortal life.

The werewolves would have beast-like instincts and senses.

The elves would have unparalleled beauty and powerful magic.

Humans would be able to wield nature's mana and implement magic.

And the Demons would have incredible endurance and strength.

For as long as time remembers, all races have always chosen a champion to represent their kind. This champion would need to have unrivalled strength or power. However, the dark truth to this, also meant that there needed to be an unruly dogfight for the throne, so that is why, each race created a sort of noble society based on the Hero's family line, thinning out the numbers for the selection of the next champion.

Humans also happened to be the only race, to not receive their abilities at birth. Putting them at a major disadvantage in the political fight between everyone.

As I was lost in thought, I was suddenly woken.

"Raaayyyyy!" called my mother, "Could you please go and find me my reading glasses inside the house please?"

I looked at her inquisitively. "Do you know where it is?"

"It should be upstairs in my room."

Sighing, I reluctantly trudged myself back inside the house, my head still dizzy from the fall.

"Desmond, it seems that a meeting among the humans has been called. As I still have the Steelheart name, I can't just ignore their summons."

"It seems that they are preparing for the inevitable." sighed Desmond. "If we are both going to fight, who will look after our son..?"

"If worse comes to worst, the only person I can give him to is my sister, as only she knows about his existence."

"Haaaaaa... This is more troublesome than I thought... just in case you don't know, I don't like Mary's guts one bit."

"Hmmm, she might be a bit wrong in the head, but I can still pull a few strings, in order to ensure Raymond's safety," assured Naomi. "I just hope that he matures fast enough to deal with the changing world."
