Chapter 2 - Chapter 1 : Birth

In the ancient Lozi kingdom we believed that all dieties resonated from the sky and that water was an element of the great gods that was a gift to supplement and nourish us for our submission and loyalty to them! So we never fished or polluted the river and this was a law that was strictly kept because failure meant mutiny! In the morning, there was always a heavy tide that washed away fish onto the river bank . This tide always hid a rainbow and gold-like colored wave that always seemed to be the fan blowing the fish to our eager stomachs and straw baskets! We didn't question what entity or supernatural phenomenon was doing this but we just ate and puffed the gluttony in peace in our huts.

To us,the water was a soup that over-boiled every morning and the fish were the drops that jump over when the boiling-point had been reached! So we all wore emblems that had our different water totems and relished the unity and kinsmanship with daily roasted fish in our fire pits! However something changed when a couple fell into the water! It was like we had held a steady census and kept the faith until the two love birds turned our manna from heaven into a chaotic savannah of floating human anatomies and cavities! The daily fish buffet dried up quicker than a cut can bleed and when we tried to search for the two bodies of those that had fell. We were met by crocodiles that seemed to run away from the deep rather than snap us into pieces!

We couldn't understand what was happening nor could we master how giants like hippos would prefer to be domesticated with goats rather than boss other river bullies. Our shamans told us it was a sign that the gods were cleaning the river and the couple that had fell were the sacrifice needed to conduct this ritual. So we believed in the hope that we would get some Kapentaatleast to balance our diet but only frogs leaped out in summersaults as if they embraced being our protein supplements. However the Lozi don't eat amphibians and so when the frogs evaded our river banks with gymnastics we kickboxed them back into the river. Kwashiorkor was better than consuming an abomination and so the kingdom faced malnutrition.

One by one people began to die! It was like there was something in the water that we shouldn't see or touch but as fate would have it we all eventually understood why! It was evening time and the moon was full and the entire kingdom was mourning the death of the young that had died due to thirst and starvation! You see the water wasn't only unsafe to drink or immoral to consume customarily but it was killing our crops. It had a burning compound in it that made crops fail to germinate. So when we had ate everything,l mean even the crocodiles and hippos that hunted us before. The only and last option was canabalism and these dead young seemed like good steak to start!

So as we cried and begged the gods to embrace them in the after life,we also rubbed our stomach inanticipation of the meal we would have! Everybody prayed and whilst we were on our knees, rain began to fall hard and lightning struck the water as if it was charging battery cells that gave energy to the whole planet! The thunder was so loud that birds were fainting from the sky and waking up without their beaks. As we all stood there shocked , holding our emblems in fear and pissing our kilts. A big wave came swift and hard onto the river bank near us but mysteriously enough,it didn't fall onto anything due to gravity but paused in the air as if a magnetic water force was using the tide to cover its face.

This is when we all saw it for the first time! At first we saw two beams of light as if they were the rays of two large modern tower lights but when a the tongue pierced the water like that of a cobra,we knew that whatever was behind the wave was bigger than us in everyway possible! It spoke in a female voice but hissed like a snake and kept hitting the river with its body as if an oversized leather belt was falling into a glass full of water. Her name was Chitapo and this was the lady that had fell into the water with her husband!
