I know a man who once said rules are fhe only thing separating us from animals and he was wrong! You see mankind is not kind or blind of it's wrongdoings but rather treats the bind between bravery and wisdom as their best find! So when we sin we do it without honor, thinking that this world is ours since we have dominion over everything but we don't. This is why the Lozi don't fear death but embrace it. We only fear dying without honor and disgrace! So when l was done making sure Gebhazi goes to the afterlife as a freak, l turned my attention to his family! I asked of them one favor and it was the simplest of them all, l begged them to rule with me.
Yes it was a mad decision to make considering all that had happened but then who did l have left to help? Gebhazi had killed everyone except young royal women who he intended to use as brides to gain access to other thrones.Only his bloodline survived and the chiefs wanted me to kill them all but how could l act like Gebhazi? You see sometimes the enemy isn't your enemy but your support is! Let me explain, if l killed the Gebhazilites l was killing the last of my kinsmen and this would have endangered my reign as other noble houses could have rose to overthrow me! So you see that these chiefs deserved death or should l kill them first and replay the logic again?
To appease everyone, l had one option and it was choosing my brother to be the rule and law. No one would argue or question Nyaminyami and his queen. So my plan was to make him part of the senate, religion and livelihoods themselves! You see Nyaminyami and Chitapo gave us fish and protected us from water animal attacks. But the people still thought the water was the major element for everything and so they bowed to it even if they feared the river gods! So the first rule was to break all the emblems and carve emblems that had the double headed face of Nyaminyami and Chitapo and l did this personally since l was the only one who knew them accurately!
The second rule was to never go to the river banks after midnight since it was the time that Nyaminyami and Chitapo regurgitated their meals and it was zealous to see this. Anyone that was a murderer or accused of infidelity was thrown head first into the water, dipped in spices and oil and the rest was history! All chiefs had to be evaluated by Chitapo. If she breathed on you and the air didn't turn to sweat then the chief was safe and elected to govern his clan. If the chief showed any sign of fear or a drop of sweat then Chitapo ate him and his fear away! So as many chiefs became the river god's meal, boys became men and those men ruled in their fathers stead and those that respected the Nyanga king feared the new gods but those that didn't follow the river rules or observe the customs, l took the body parts l needed for my medicine from them and threw the rest to our effective meat disposal bins in the water!
Gebhazi's sons were made perfects of the senate! They had the same power as chiefs but had no clan to govern. In short, they were the opposition when l needed to excersize a guided democracy and they gave me full allegiance unlike their fallen! However to ensure that words held meaning and that they would keep their loyalty l turned all the males into eunuchs! Yes! I castrated the living lights out of them and fed them the delicacy! Those that had assisted Gebhazi before,l turned them to 'imikhovu'. You see the normal is to harmer a big nail into the skull of someone and rub the enchantment all over their body if you want to turn them into a traditionally remote controlled thing (zombie). But in the Lozi kingdom we take their eyes , tongue, nose, lips ,head skin and stitch them together so that we control how they see, smell, eat, talk and think! After that, they become our furniture and things to use as we please! If you want someone dead, the mkhovu will do it, if you wanted to be a pervert and have the full details of how someone looks when they bath and how many scars they have on their back, the mkhovu would give you the details.
So as l healed in time the sick and foretold the future and problems of others using my mkhovu's to gather Intel, there was peace and stability in the kingdom! People observed the rules and worshipped the river gods and they in turn blessed everyone with fish and artificial rain at my request from time to time. There was harmony and in time l fell in love with a stranger and this is what destroyed the Lozi! She was a white woman and came with her people as missionaries like Father Gonzalo Da Silvera and David Livingstone both did before everything turned into chaos! Note that l said l fell in love with her but she was clearly doing her job well! The first day l saw her,l wasn't sure if l wanted to skin her alive for her beautiful white and pale skin that would have looked splendid on my Nyanga attire or kiss her hand like a queen! Her name was Jasmine although l called her 'Ntombenhle'!
