Veronica already expected Monday to be eventful, but nothing has prepared her for what came up the moment she stepped foot in the office.
As usual, most eyes were on her the minute she stepped in—not so different from her last workplace. She quietly made her way to her work desk, her heels echoing on the tiles so loud it was as though she stepped into a graveyard.
She'd often wondered what joy gossip brought to people that it was as though they couldn't survive without it.
After letting out a deep sigh, she turned on her computer. She didn't want to confront the manager first in case Jason had forgotten to send the letter. How embarrassing it would be if that were the case—to be chased out of his office in front of everyone.
Over the weekend, she'd used most of her free time to continue her novel drafts, while managing to close out the thought that Jason might have been pulling her legs when he agreed to the interview.
