Chapter 1 - How it started

BLÃZE

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Let me briefly tell you a story, a story that involves pain, happiness, love, hatred, betrayal, anger and any other emotional tie you can think of but firstly, I'll like to introduce myself.
I'm Blaze Hunter just like everyone had called me, I remember my love for comics, I remember being called "Blaze the haunted kid" which I grew fond of even though it sounds weird.
I also could recollect, yeah vividly... I once attended a popular high school in the popular Star City. That was where I lived. The name I could not recall but what I still pictured about the school was that almost all rich kids attended the school. Yeah, I know what you'd be thinking but no, my family was not that rich, though my dad was a scientist while my mom was a banker. They got little pay from their occupations and other kinds of stuff.
Speaking of my father, he was the most incredible person I had ever known. Now don't get me wrong, not the cool type like dressing, looks and all of that but Dad was a well-certified scientist, not only a scientist but an engineer who had to change the system of the world through science and technology.
My father once told me "Every man works in other to achieve a goal but my goals are beyond your understanding"
Okay I got the first part but what does he mean by his goals are beyond my understanding? Pretty awkward right?
I could remember this particular event that changed my life from awkwardness to awesomeness. Firstly I thought it was the end of the world but on the line, it was pretty schway.
My Dad came up with an invention for a company known to be the Grantcom's Industry, known for producing weapons and ammunition.
Dad built a Navy D5 Missile. "Awesome right?"
It's the most powerful weapon built to provide a backbone of the nuclear deterrent in the future. Its design was made back in 1989 but was never built.
My dad became the first American engineer to attempt the building of a D5 missile. As powerful as the D5 missile is, a handful of D5s could collapse the entire electrical grid, transportation network, and information infrastructure of even large countries.
My question is why build something dangerous or fearsome enough to collapse a county like China?
According to Grantcom's industries "if you can't defend your homeland against a large scale nuclear attack, then the best option is to threaten adversaries with devastating retaliation if one D5 Missile is launched"
Grantcom's industries decided to sell this weapon to the US government for a large sum. I'm talking about 100 billion US dollars.
Dad thought that through this deal, he would be the richest engineer in the whole world. But all was false as he realized that Grantcom's industries are nothing but greedy and notorious business partners.
Dad walked out of his lab in his lab wear, intending to go to the director's office. He wanted to meet Dr Cross-town in other to sign the deal of his invention and also know how much he will be paid. He walked past many guards who stood at different exits. His lab was actually on the first floor while Dr Cross town's office was on the 3rd floor.
Getting to the entrance of the elevator, he pressed the open button before taking some steps inside. He then tapped the 3rd button which caused a movement. Five seconds later the elevator dinged and he stepped out, heading towards dr cross town's office. Approaching the door, he heard sounds of laughter coming from the room. He knocked and without waiting for an answer opened the door, meeting him on the phone with the Chief of Army Staff.
"Yes, colonel; I like to be paid upfront before the presentation," Dr Cross-town said signing a file before him.
"Thank you, chief, Grantcom's Industries are grateful for this opportunity" Dropping his pen, he closed the file.
He spotted Dad taking his seat right in front of him.
"Yea, I will. Till then" Dr cross-town said and then he hung up the phone with a smile.
"My favourite engineer" Dr cross-town teased with a smile on his face but deep down, he had bad intentions.
"Dr cross-town" Dad replied with his eyes on him.
"Congratulations. The US government has decided to buy your latest weapon with a huge sum of 100 billion dollars" Dr Cross-town happily said as he stretched his hands towards him. Dad was too shocked not only about the money but that the design made meant to be built in the future around 2042 was built by him in the year 2022.
"I um hh don't even um know, what to say" Dad shook his head with a smile.
"I know. All that remains is for you to sign the deal and you'll automatically get 20% of the profit" Dr Cross-town handed over the paperwork to him.
"Yea I sign anything other than... Wait what?" with his brows raised, Dad yelled.
"Is anything wrong Mr Hunter?" making a fake surprise look, Dr Cross-town asked.
"Yea, Like a lot is wrong. why do I get to have 20% of the profit while you guys get 80%?" Dad took the paperwork from him, looking at it with furrowed brows.
"Mr Hunter" he stressed, "you know the payment protocol of Grantcom's industries, we pay 20% to our inventor while the remaining 80% would be distributed to folks under our partnership" He ended with a tight-lipped smile.
Dad nodded in disagreement "No no no! I won't accept that. That protocol gotta stop. I built what Grantcom's industries thought was impossible to build. I brought fortune to this company, not even you." Dad angrily threw the paperwork back to him. Mr Cross-town fumed in anger but he tried to conceal it.
If there's something Dad knows how to do best aside from inventing or experimenting; it's boasting which sometimes puts him in a lot of trouble just like what he's about to encounter.
"Alright, Mr Hunter I get you. Let's do this 70-30. No more further bargain" Mr Cross-town took his mug of coffee ready to sip.
"Never; it's 50-50 or no deal" Dad sharply said smacking the back of his fingers lightly on the desk.
On hearing that; Dr Cross-town spits his coffee out from his tongue "Are you kidding me?" he yelled.
"And what makes you think I'll agree to your goddamn fucking deal" Cross-town added while dropping the mug on the desk.
Dad, first of all, scoffed before answering him "Oh no you will Dr Cross-town"
"And if I don't" Dr Cross-town leaned forward staring at him with a narrow look and a grin.
Dad kept his eyes on him for a while before bursting into laughter. Dr Crosstown not knowing why he was laughing joined him and the two became idiots laughing together.
Immediately Dad stopped and from his facial expression, it showed that the laugh was nothing but "A Mocking Laughter"
"You want this deal? you know what to do" and immediately he stood up from his seat, walking towards the door.
"Mr Hunter, pls come back. let's bargain on this" Dr Cross-town yelled at Dad but no response.
Dad opened the door and was shocked to meet Dr Cross-town's Assistant (Philip) standing in the doorway. With his posture and look; it seemed like he overheard every conversation that went on between them.
Dad glared with a scowl which frightened him. Philip immediately composed himself without making eye contact. Dad walked past him towards the elevator while Philip immediately walked into Dr Cross-town's Office.
"Boss, I heard every detail between you and Mr Hunter, we can't afford to lose this deal. Let's give him what he wants" Philip pleaded as he sat.
"No!" Dr Cross-town sharply said as he slammed his fist.
"That would never happen; it's either 70-30 or no fucking deal" Dr Cross-town added and then stood up, pacing around the room with a blue round ball. he threw it up repeatedly, catching it as it came down.
"Speaking of no deal; it will cause Grantscom Industries distrust from our customers" Philip reminded him.
On that, Dr Cross-town paused and gazed at Philip's face. He threw the ball on the ground which caused a tiny squeak.
"What do we do?"
Philip thought for a while before saying
"Actually boss, I do have a plan" He ended up staring at his boss with an evil smirk...
