One day, an ancient dragon attacked Etsi. While Etsi was prepared for attacks, since it was a powerful ancient dragon, their defenses didn't work so well against it. Ancient dragons are rarely below tier 9 and this dragon, who's name was Elbsion, was tier 10.
And what was Jes doing. He was wondering about his options. Should he stop the dragon or should he let the dragon wreak havoc. By letting the dragon roam, people would need housing later on, so that's a plus. But on the other hand, if the dragon killed people, there would be less people able to come to his inn, so that's a minus.
Then he thought about what it would do to the traffic. He concluded that it would drop, as the dragon would make the place in ruin. Meaning that a new town would have to be built and that would take some time. So another minus.
Jes then wondered if there were any other upsides on letting the dragon be. He didn't come up with any, so he decided to let the dragon be for a moment.
Then people started praying for their lives. For anyone to save them. Those prayers that were directed to a certain god would go to that certain god, but those prayers that only asked general help, would go most often to either the god of common or to Jes himself.
The prayers were getting to the point of annoyance, so Jes finally snapped and shouted "OKAY FINE!!! I will come and save you lot!
While Jes was about to open the door, he thought to himself "If I go out looking like this, they would start to pester me as the savior and not as an innkeeper. Yes, I have to change my appearance." So then Jes changed his appearance to a blond elf woman. After looking at the mirror, Jes thought "Should I cover my eyes with something or just go with an illusion spell? It is such a shame that you can't transform your eye color to what you want and they always stay the same. Hmmm… Let's go with an illusion spell and let's choose… blue."
And so Jes went to town to save people. When he got to look at the town from the sky, he muttered "I wished there'd be more… I mean less damage to the town. Oh well, let's get this over with."
He then landed in front of the dragon and shouted "Hold!" and the dragon stopped. The dragon did not know why it had stopped for the elf that was in front of it, and it shouted at Jes "How dare you stop me! Face the wrath of…" Then Jes shouted "Silence!" and the dragon could no longer speak or breathe any elements from its mouth.
Jes then started flying and taking the dragon with him. The dragon was hovering with Jes like it was attached to him.
When they were far enough for anyone to hear or see, Jes changed his appearance back to the way it was. Then he asked the dragon "Why would someone as old as you decide to attack a settlement?" The dragon was silent as the spell that Jes casted prevented it from talking. Jes then realized his mistake and canceled the spell.
Then the dragon said "I search for a glorious death." Jes wasn't phased by this and asked "Why?" The dragon said "All my life I have lived being revered as someone mighty. I don't see the point of me continuing this facade anymore."
Jes simply replied "Then why choose to die?" The dragon responded "I don't know what else to do. My research is complete and I have given orders to my followers to move on." Jes then smiled and said "Then why don't you try to do something else?" Elbsion asked "Like what?" Jes kept smiling and said "Like start a business of some sort."
Elbsion was surprised by this and repeated Jes' words "A business?" Jes smiled from ear to ear and said "Yes. If you try something new, I'm sure you will see more value in your life." Elbsion then said "I have many riches that my followers offered me so why would I want more wealth?" To which Jes responded "Don't do it for the money. Do it because you like it. Become a boss that everyone would look up to." Then Elbsion asked "I am worshiped already. What would I build my business from anyways?" And Jes replied "Whatever you choose. Magic items, books, jewelry and all that jazz. Or maybe you should produce entertainment or food. Sweets are a good option."
Elbsion wondered for a moment, then said "I… see… maybe I should start a business that deals many goods." Jes smiled and said "That's a fantastic idea! You can use your accumulated wealth, try to contact your followers to join and build an empire of your own." Elbsion smiled and said "That… That would sound nice."
Then Jes asked "So are you going to do it or not?" Elbsion then says "Yes. I'm going to do it. Thanks for this opportunity. Can you please give me a new name?" Jes is a bit surprised and asks "Why would you… oh right, you don't want people to focus on the fact that you are an ancient dragon. Let me think… Umm… Oh, how about Elision, the unspoken letter."
Elbsion repeats what Jes said "Elision… sounds nice, I take it. From now on I'll be known as Elision." Elision raises its head proudly and Jes claps his hands and says "Congratulations on your new found identity, Elision."
Elision then looks down and asks "May I know what your name is?" Jes smiled and said "My humble name is Jes Tacitus. The innkeeper of Unseen Moon Inn." Elision repeats what Jes said "Jes Tacitus… Unseen Moon Inn… Got it. Farewell Jes Tacitus. May we meet again." Jes waves goodbye to Elision as it flies away to a new future that is ahead of it.
Jes smiles and says to himself "Job well done. Now to wait for new customers."
As luck would have it, Jes received new customers this time, but the flood was only a party of adventurers who lost the inn they were staying at during the attack. The party was one female elf, male human, female human and female bestblood. They paid for the drinks and food and partied to celebrate that they survived the attack. The ladies in the party began to get a little flirty with the man, and they soon went to their room. Jes just thought "The pleasures of mortals. Such is life. Let's make sure the man can satisfy all the ladies tonight." Jes snaps his fingers and they keep at it for hours.
In the morning, the party comes to get breakfast. They enjoy it and give their thanks to the innkeeper. While they are eating, the man, who's name is Kyle, asks Jes "Hey innkeeper. Are you going to come and help with the town?" Jes asks "Do they need my help?" Kyle replies "They are asking everyone in town to help sort out the mess. Even the thunderblade Diane is helping."
Jes thinks for a moment, then says "I suppose I can borrow my time. If anything, I can carry a lot of heavy stuff." Kyle says "That'd be great. Go and ask the guild for what you can do. We will be helping to get rid of the damaged foundation so that they can build a new house."
And so they continue to eat their fill. After they are done, Jes takes their plates and goes to clean them. While he is at it, the party says their thanks and leaves.
After Jes is done sorting out the mess they had made, both in the dining area and in their room, he goes to the town and sees if he can be of any assistance.
He gets some work to carry stuff from point A to point B. With the amount of stuff he can carry by himself, Jes gets a lot of stares from the ones who notice. Some of the stares admire his strength and others worry that the violet eyed man will cause some trouble or misfortune.
The day goes by and everyone returns to their homes. The party from last time came today as well, saying "Your booze and food are amazing. Can't just miss out on it." And so the night comes, with the loins of the ladies being wet at the end of it all. Kyle is exhausted after the work they did, so it was a struggle for him tonight.
The next day goes similarly to yesterday and this time people are a lot more vocal about Jes's violet eyes. It doesn't bother him that much and continues to do the work that was given to him.
That night when the party came to the Unseen Moon Inn, Kyle could sleep easy since the ladies didn't want to do it this time. Jes made sure that they recovered a lot of stamina tonight.
This cycle continued for two weeks and by the end of it all, most of the damage was dealt with. The town was now working more or less business as usual. This also meant that Kyle's party would not go to Unseen Moon Inn for most of the nights. They would occasionally come when they are running late and don't manage to enter the town in time, but most of the time, they would go elsewhere.
Two weeks later Kyle came to have a drink by himself this time. While he drank, Jes decided to ask "So what worries do you carry dear customer?" Kyle drank a sip of booze and then said "I'm gonna be a dad."
Jes thought for a moment and said "Congratulations? Though it looks like it's not exactly happy news." Kyle sips more booze and then says "No, I'm happy about the fact, but now I have to find another job. None of them want me to go on long expeditions and be an absent father."
Jes rubs his hand on his chin and says "Well, I suppose that is to be expected. I suppose you can't try and find a treasure and be set for life since the ladies would worry you manage to kill yourself if you do so." Kyle smiles and says "Yeah, they said something similar to that. We are still gonna adventure for a month or so, but then I have to find a new job."
Jes then says "Well there is always the opportunity to book it if you get desperate. Just remember to not look back under any circumstances, go as far away as you can and change your name" Kyle gives a small laugh and says "Sure, but then I will ruin my relationship with the others. I couldn't show my face here again. Maybe I would even get a wanted poster and get beaten up. I know Martha's brothers would do that to me if I did that. In any case, I still want to be a dad, but I just don't know how."
Jes says "Martha was the other human in your party, wasn't she? You can't help it if you want to be a father, but just know leaving is always an option. I mean I can talk from experience. Didn't end well though. To no party whatsoever. Except for Kilwaisters, but they were always a weird bunch in any case. Damn those Kilwaisters. Especially you JOHN. *Clears throat* Anyways, back to the topic. Do you have any game plans?" Kyle drinks and then says "I have no idea how to do anything else."
Jes then suggests "How about being a guard or a soldier? Well, they are almost the same thing, but still." Kyle was about to take another sip, but then he opened his eyes widely and said "That doesn't actually sound half bad." He drinks the rest of the drink and then rises from the chair. As he stands, he says "I'm going to become a proper soldier." Then he leaves and Jes just says "Please visit again!"
And now the benefit that Jes got from the dragon attack ended. Now only few came by to visit him. Well, besides Diane.
Couple of months later, a lady beastblood with a lizard tail and two horns came to the Unseen Moon Inn in a noble attire. She then gave her greetings to Jes "It's been a while, Jes Tacitus." Jes thinks for a moment and realizes that this is Elision. Then he says "It's been a while indeed. How is your business venture?"
Elision smiles and says "I would say rather good actually. I managed to open a shop in Etsi, Kilvi and even in the capital Valta." Something snaps in Jes as he hears this. Then he says while giving a smile "Good for you. I'm surprised that you managed to open up shop in three separate places in such a short time."
Elision says "Yes, I have to thank my followers for their assistance. There were few that actually knew how to run a business so they decided to give me some advice and gave word of my new business. I'm truly blessed."
Something snapped in Jes again as he heard what Elision said. Then he said while smiling "Good for you. So did you come all the way here just to tell that?" Elision then said "I came here to offer any goods that you might desire. Food, beverages, decoration or anything you may need. If we don't have it, I would be happy to try and find it for you."
Jes said "Why do you offer me such a donation?" To which Elision said "It is thanks to you that I came to realize this grand opportunity. Without you, I would have died by the hand of some adventurer or a grand army. Now I can extend my wealth to more people and help them find what they need. I'm truly grateful."
Jes smiled yet again and said "Good for you" and said nothing else. Elision then said "So if there is anything you want, go to a store named Elysion and just tell them your name. I have made sure that all the people working in my store know your great name." Jes then says "I will keep that in mind."
Elision then says her goodbyes and leaves the inn. After Elision is far enough, Jes hits his fists to the counter and shouts "Damn I'm jealous! Why can't I be so lucky! This is so unfair! Having people spread good words to others while I only get bad rep for some reason! This is so unfair!"
Jes then goes outside, where multiple people are passing by, and shouts "FUCK YOU, YOU DAMN LIZARD!" He then realizes what he had done, composes himself and apologizes to the passersby. Once he went back inside, he said "God damn it." and continued being moody until a new customer came to look for a place to stay the night two days later.
