Chapter 4 - Encounter with a man at the Library

To Kasper, the night of this planet was longer than the night he was used to.

"The day and night is longer here," he thought. From the time night fell when he was in the sewer till now, he was sure it was more than sixteen hours. He still doesn't know if he was transmigrated into the past of his original world or he was transmigrated into another world entirely. He doesn't know much about people from the past in his original world but he was sure they weren't using magic wands to cast spells.

After he had cultivated for another one hour, day finally came, the golden sun rose from the west. Kasper was surprised, he now firmly believed he was in another world. He rose up and and searched the whole house if he could find a mirror, he found a small one but it wasn't too clear.

"It'll do the job anyway," he muttered. He took a look at his face, he had to admit that Alfred was definitely a very handsome man. His facial features were finely defined, blonde hair and blue eyes that seemed to know all the secret and knowledge of the universe. Kasper was certain that Alfred was a highly educated man, but something was restricting him from searching through Alfred's memories. He had to bypass this restriction, going through the memories of Alfred would benefit him a lot.

Next, he examined his damaged collarbone. Thanks to his incredible healing ability, the wound was already closing up, he just had to avoid strenuous activities that would open the wound again. He examined the bruises on his back as well, thankfully, they would soon be fully healed.

After he was done checking his wounds, he sat down to and crossed his legs in a meditative way. He was ready to leave the house so he had to use the art of deception. He started to chant magic spells, bright light illuminated him and rune appeared all over his body. His body soon started to readjust, including his bones, hair changed colours, his height increased, every part of his body was readjusted. Sound of cracking bones filled the whole room, beads of sweat formed on his forehead. The art of deception was a painful process, but he could handle it, he had suffered excruciating pains in the past compared to this one.

After about five minutes, the sound of cracking bones stopped, Kasper signed and steadied his breathing. He was done with the process. He took the mirror and checked his face again, this time, his body had shaped to his original face and appearance from his previous lifetime. His hair had turned black, his facial features was finely outlined. His eyes were ferocious and fearless, merely looking at them, one could tell he had gone through countless life and death situations. He was now taller and he had great physical build compared to Alfred's frail body. The loose clothes now appeared fitter, although it still doesn't seem to be of the right size.

Even though he now had his former looks, it wasn't as perfect as it was, some noticeable flaws were still visible and he could only keep this appearance for a period not long than six hours. He had limited time so he had to be quick and keep track of time. He sneaked out of the house when he was sure no one was watching, he left for the center of the city, the library was supposed to be there, he assumed.

He asked for direction from people and he eventually got to the Library. He stopped in front of the library and accessed the situation of the surroundings. He saw soldiers going from place to place, vigorously searching for him, he sneered at them before he entered the library. When he entered, he was greeted by the sight of a large expanse of space that was filled with book shelves that were even taller than regular houses. Although the library appeared smaller from the outside, it looked three times bigger when one enters. Kasper was not surprised by this, it was an illusion done by a space mage. He doesn't know much about the space magic, how it was being manipulated to create illusions like that. He decided he would dabble in to the space magic, being able to cast a few space magic spells could come handy for him in the future.

"Where do I even start from, loads of bookshelves here, it's even possible the books here might be up to millions. "I should ask someone for to help me." He thought, he looked to his right and saw a young man and approached him.

"Hello young man!" he greeted. The young man seemed friendly, he had a buoyant smile on his face.

"Morning, how may I help you?" He said in a friendly manner.

"I'm new here," Kasper said

"Yeah, I could tell." The friendly man replied. He could truly tell Kasper was new here or at least he wasn't from around here. His demeanor was obviously different from the people of this city.

"I'm here for some books but there are many sections here in the library and I don't have much time, I could use some of your help if you're familiar with the library." Kasper said politely.

"That's no problem, I'm very familiar with the library."

"Thank you." Kasper squeezed out a smile. He wasn't used to smiling, he had spent most of his lifetime battling against alien races, there was nothing funny on the battlefield.

"What type of books did you need?"

"Just some historical books of this planet."

"Historical books of this planet."

"Yes, I need to figure out a few things."

"Do you know a lot about history?" The friendly man asked while he led Kasper to the history section of the library. He was truly familiar with the library sections, in just a few minutes, he had led Kasper to the history section. If Kasper had not asked for the friendly man's help, he might have spent quite a long period time before he could find the history section.

"Here we are." The friendly man pointed at the history books that were neatly arranged on bookshelves. There was about twenty shelves and thousands of books in this section. Kasper doesn't even know where he would start, he had to be quick before the time for the art of deception ran out.

Kasper noticed a subtle change on the facial expression of the friendly man, although the man had masked it almost perfectly with his buoyant smile, he couldn't fool Kasper.

The man as well could tell that Kasper has found out about his fake smile. The situation was getting awkward, the friendly man quickly extended his right hand for an handshake as he prepared to leave. Kasper took the handshake but he felt a subtle jolt of electricity in his body, a normal person would've thought it was another thing but Kasper was not a normal person, he could tell it was from the friendly man. He could even tell that the friendly man had peeped at his soul, he just didn't know how much of his memories the latter had seen. He pulled him to his chest and grabbed him by the shirt.

"What did you see?" Kasper asked furiously with a vicious expression.

The friendly man was stunned, first up, he had seen frightening things when he peeped into the soul of Kasper and what shocked him even more was that Kasper could tell he had done something. This was the first time he would get caught and he wasn't prepared for what to say. Kasper's vicious expression made him trembled, he knew he had messed with the wrong person.

The friendly man could tell that Kasper had a secret, Kasper's movement and facial expressions was something he had never seen before in this world.

He could normally tell when someone was keeping a secret and he could tell what type of secret as well, but Kasper was a different case. The friendly man could only tell that Kasper had a secret and if leaked, it would put his life in serious jeopardy. This ability of the friendly man was an innate talent of his. He could even take a look at the soul of a person and their secrets would be revealed to him in a vision, he just needed physical contact.

Although he had such a great innate talent, he had kept it a secret and he rarely used it on people but, he just couldn't help it in Kasper's case.

"I'll bash your fu*ckin head if you do not answer my question." Kasper threatened.

"Everything! Everything! Pls don't bash me head." The friendly man answered with a panicked expression. He was trembling, he was totally defenceless when facing someone like Kasper.

"You're going to die!" Kasper was enraged. He thought his secrets was safe with the art of deception, he regretted asking for the friendly man's help.

"Pls don't kill me, I can help." The friendly man said desperately.

Kasper paused for a moment, he then casted a spell, a bright rune with the shape of a flame appeared on his right palm. He smashed the rune on the chest of the friendly man. The latter felt a burning painful sensation on his chest, he gave out a small cry.
