Chapter 2 - World Event: The Basics

[Class Selection Protocol Initiated: Please choose wisely]

"What?" cried a youth of around seventeen years of age.

[Available Classes: Blade Master- From the tip of a spear to a blade of grass, the world is your weapon./ Mana Molder- Spells become obsolete in the face of absolute control of the arcane./Master Jack- A jack of all trades but a master of each]

The youth read the classes laid before him until one of them suddenly disappeared causing him to widen his eyes as he hastily went to click the mana molder class only for it to also blank out just before his finger could select the class.

[Master Jack has been selected by default, may the future bring you better luck.]

The youth then watched as his cellphone began to shine as it changed into what looked like a PDA.

[Take up your Scout, from now on system messages will be routed to your Device. Exceptions apply only to events and Flash Quests]

The youth followed the directions as he took up the Scout, the moment it made contact with his hand it seemed to activate. There were a few shortcuts on the home screen, the one that stuck out was the one that looked like a chibi version of him.

Clicking on the icon it pulled up what looked like a stat chart along with a message.

{Master Jack will automatically distribute stat points in a balanced manner, User is unable to specialize in one aspect.}

After reading the message the youth couldn't help feeling cheated as he looked at his stats which were all at one, however this was a common scene as many others were questioning the low stats they possessed.

Sighing he continued looking through the menu finding only one skill and it was an passive skill at that.

{Genius Disciple- User is able to gain Skills after reaching a certain understanding of a subject./User is able to create a Trade as long as they perform the necessary actions.}

--------

The youth read the skill and thought perhaps it was so hopeless but what did it mean by trades?

Suddenly he heard banging on his door.

"Draig, are you there. Did you get the message?" came an all too familiar voice.

'Jonathon, what does that creepy bastard want.' thought Draig as he opened the door revealing a long series of doors in a basement like complex.

The person before him was perfectly average in every way other than the scraggly hair and deep bags under his eyes.

"Did you get the message?" asked Jonathon excitedly.

"Yeah I got the message, though it ripped me on the classes." answered Draig as if this was all normal.

"What class did you get?" asked Jonathon curiously.

"Something stupid called Master Jack." sighed Draig as the complex suddenly began shaking.

[Initiating World Event: The Basics- Users will be faced with enemies in order to help them understand and use their classes effectively. Don't die...]

Draig looked at Jonathon as snarling could be heard coming from down the hallways as others began peeking out their doors, they were also trying to make sense of the situation. Though that didn't last long as horrid little creatures came crawling along the walls, their skin a numerous shade of browns and green.

"Draig, goblins!" cried Jon as he stared at the little terrors, those closest had no time to respond as they were swarmed and their blood stained the ground.

Jon smiled upon seeing the creatures and raised his hands causing a spear of energy to shoot forth running four of the creatures through forcing pained squeals from their lungs.

Draig was unable to see the notification but received a flash quest.

[Observe your companions and join the fight- rewards ???]

Draig seeing the notification did as told, he was still a bit confused at the situation but stranger things had been happening in recent years.

At the front line several warrior types formed a wall, hacking and slashing away at the little green menace.

Draig felt his Scout buzzing incessantly as he tried taking in the whole battlefield, though his head was beginning to hurt. He chalked it up to a sensory overload as he watched everyone continue fighting, however the Goblin's numbers didn't seem to be decreasing. In fact it was almost like their numbers were increasing.

-----------

As Draig continued watching he saw a goblin slip through and spin on its foot in an attempt to break the line for it's companions.

The Master Jack was going to make a charge for the creature but it was unnecessary as Jon sent an arc of mana that sliced through the little creature however this also served to injure the user behind it. Just like that the front line fell and the Goblins once again began to charge through.

Jon looked surprised at the turn of events but wasted no time retreating to a safe place causing Draig to become shocked.

"Jon you fucking coward!" called Draig after the pigheaded teammate.

---------

However the Master Jack wasn't in the situation where he could spare his thoughts on the friendly fire as he locked his eyes onto a sword by a fallen user.

'Damn it' tsked Draig in his head as he grit his teeth and ran for the weapon.

At least that was the intent until a sea of flames erupted engulfing the remaining goblins as well as the users that were within it's area of Effect.

Horrified screams erupted from the flames as it slowly killed everything within it's confines.

{Decimation of Flames Understanding-1%}

Draig covered his face until the flames died down, after a minute or so the heat disappeared causing the Master Jack to look for the source of the devastating attack.

It wasn't hard to find the culprit as a black haired girl with red eyes smirked with self satisfaction while those around quickly came to her side clamoring to follow her.

"I don't see why not, those of you who wish to follow me may do so." spoke the girl in a arrogant tone.

Draig didn't bother merely slipping away from the scene back into his room until he heard the new 'Party' leave.

-------------

It didn't take long for the group to quickly depart as their new leader seemed more than capable of handling any threat that would appear during this event. Draig however didn't bother with them, the casual way the girl was able to kill so many of her fellow humans without a shred of remorse lead him to believe that she was someone he wouldn't dare follow for risk of friendly fire.

Though Draig did have another reason for staying behind as even though he wasn't a major fan of games he still understood the basics, that is... gear could be gained by looting the fallen.

Exiting his room he found that all the weapons and gear of the fallen were still laying on the ground, thanking the heavens above for this good fortune he began gathering up everything taking whatever he could. Though he wondered what had happened to the bodies....

It was after some time that he finally checked his Scout.

{New Skills- Available, Trades updated}

Clicking his character icon he was surprised to see just how many skills he had gained in that short time.

{Skills Learned- Basic Stance level 1/ Fireball/ Ice Spike/ Lightning Bolt/ Parry, Poison Shot}

Draig looked at the skills and grinned.

'Perhaps I actually hit the jackpot' chuckled the Master Jack.

He then looked at what trade he had unlocked.

{Looter level 1- user is able to find some value in most things}

Draig nodded after checking his scout and that's when he noticed the glowing notification on an icon labeled toolbox.

Clicking the icon he was shown a series of items.

{Skinning knife- Necessary for a beginner in the looting profession./ Looter's Armor- Light but will protect from low level attacks./ Amateur Restoration set- allows user to repair and restore some items to useable condition.}

Draig was a bit impressed, he wondered if the system would give him trade specific gear every time he created a new trade. However now realizing the function of the Toolbox as a storage space he wondered if he could pack away all the gear within the device.

Clicking the icon over the armor he was given the option to equip which he did but noticed his normal clothes didn't appear within the inventory. It was odd but something he would figure out later as he looked at the books and pouches laying around curiously.

{Scan class storage items to increase Inventory capacity? Yes/No}

Draig read the notification and looked surprised.

"Is everyone's Scout different?" wondered Draig as he clicked yes and the books, pouches, backpacks and so forth were broken down into little particles and pulled into his Scout device.

Draig seeing the function looked towards the gear laying about he had gathered and held out his Scout.

{Add items to Toolbox? Yes/No}

Clicking yes once again Draig watched as the items were pulled into the device in a shimmering display. However now that he was seeing the use of the device he wondered if he could store food within the Toolbox as well, he didn't see the harm in attempting such.

With this thought he wasted no time repeating the action within his pantry and was delighted by what the results.

'Should probably collect enough supplies to last me until I can learn the ropes' thought Draig as he began ravaging the rooms abandoned by the group that had left.
