Susan had no real reason to doubt him, so she let it go and nodded.
"Now, get some sleep, my lady." With that, he left, leaving Susan to stare at the ceiling.
She was on full alert for in case Dylan ever returned. But she soon fell asleep.
Thanks to the whole drama, her stress from the nightmare had been completely relieved and she could fall asleep with ease.
The next day, Susan went to the back of the mansion and sat under an apple tree. She carried her laptop with her, with the aim of sending an email to her family.
Since she got to the mansion, she had neither received any calls, texts or email from her family and wondered if it had to do with the connection.
"Considering how old this place is, I'm not so surprised." She said and began typing. "Dear family, I've been gone for a day and half and..." She paused and clicked her tongue. "No, that's too forward." She erased it and started all over.
"Dear family, I've been doing really well. The people here are weird but they are also nice and friendly. The mansion is very big and gorgeous. It's so wonderful, except for the fact that it's painted black." She thought for a while.
She looked at her shoe and then, at the sky. She shook her head.
"I shouldn't add that part. I make it sound like there's something wrong with the color black." She erased the description of the mansion.
She spent half an hour typing different letters and sent them across through email.
Once she was done, she sighed and looked up. The branches from the tree acted as a shade against the sun. Her mind flashed back to the previous night.
"Dylan, was it? I really have to keep my guard up at all times." She said and sighed once more. "The people here are indeed weird." From Carlson, who held up a smile at all times, to the maid who was in charge of cleaning her room. They were all acting in a strange manner.
Although, she expected them to be professionals since the Esclairs was no small family but, to such an extent, it felt unreal.
It was as if they were faking it. The thought of it gave her chills. She sighed yet again.
"I must be overthinking it." She concluded
"Well, go overthink somewhere else. I'm trying to sleep." Susan was surprised. Where did that annoying and childish male voice come from?
"Who's there? Show yourself." She demanded and an apple fell on her head. "Ouch!" She touched her head and looked up, only to see a boy of about 15 years, lying on the apple tree's branch. "What do you think you're doing?" She got up. "Who are you?"
"Damn, you're really noisy!" He complained. "I just said you were disturbing my sleep, didn't I?" He attempted to jump down.
It was too high up so Susan tried to warn him but he didn't give her the chance to.
"Don't, it's..." Her words were cut short when he recklessly jumped down but landed flawlessly. He looked at her with a mocking gaze. "You, you could've hurt yourself."
"Tch! Only puny humans like you would get hurt from such an height." He stated with a really rude tone and started walking away.
"Hey you!" Susan called out but he simply ignored her. She picked up the apple and threw it at him.
Surprisingly, he caught the apple even without looking. She looked at him shocked.
"How did you...? Nevermind that, just apologize!" She demanded, folding her arms.
"For what? How dare a human like you throw an apple at me and then ask me to apologize?" He barked furiously but she seemed unfazed.
"You have a really rude tone for a young boy. You need to apologize." He thought she was kidding but her expression said otherwise.
"I don't want to. You're the one who woke me up with your excessive sighs and unwanted remarks. If anyone should apologize, it's you." He pointed out and she frowned.
'This boy! He seems to be used to talking this way. I don't think he's a servant, could he be a relative?' she thought.
Looking at him complain so rudely, somehow reminded her of Katherina.
'This lady, they both have this same spirit. Why do they keep nagging me? It's almost like, she never left' The boy thought and felt her eyes scanning him so fearlessly. 'Ugh, they might be alike but I'm certain, this one is more shameless' It was embarrassing having someone stare at him.
"You, human! What do you think you're doing?" His face had turned red from embarrassment. He wasn't used to someone staring at him so excessively.
Susan got close and pinched his cheek. It was the first time anyone was pinching his cheek so lightly.
Whenever Dylan pinched his cheek, it would leave a bruise but this lady's strength was just so weak.
She pulled his cheek lightly. The feel of his skin was as cold as ice.
"Are you done?" He asked and she quickly took back her hand upon realizing her actions.
"I'm sorry. You kinda remind me of my sister. You two have this same fiery attitude." She smiled warmly. "You two have the same attitude. She... She..." Tears streamed down her cheeks. This startled him. "I'm sorry!" She tried to clean her tears with her palm. "I think something got into my eye!" It was a lame excuse but she couldn't just tell a boy she just met that she was actually shedding tears.
He saw it as a bothersome situation and just decided to walk away but as soon as he turned to leave, he couldn't help but remember 'her' The both of them had the same attitude of lying about their tears.
He started walking away but stopped after a few steps.
"What am I doing?" He asked himself and started walking towards her. "You know, I also know someone whose attitude quite reflects to yours." He took out an hanky. "You remind me of her." He stretched it towards her.
