"I'll deal with you quickly, and then I'll split your friends in two, Spruce!", Said the one who trained me not long ago, as he stepped closer pulling his huge stone ax back. Once he attacked me, however, he only managed to put a hole in the bear fur covering the ground: "What?!"
I had conjured a rolling tree trunk, and entered it, escaping the attack faster than my short legs could move me. Coming off the conjured tree trunk, I explained: "I haven't wasted these past weeks doing nothing. Even without you, I continued to train, Twelve-Ax!"
"He. It had to be this way, or it wouldn't be fun! Come, Spruce, show me how much you have grown! Let's fight!"
With a smile bigger than I had ever seen before, my trainer came to me with another swing, and I conjured a wooden wall to stop his ax, but it was for nothing, for he cut through the thick trunks as if they weren't even there.
I used one of the moves Ike had taught me, and rolled away from the attack, stopping in a crouched position, when I used a spell taught to me by Coyote, and shot a burning wooden stake at my huge opponent, which he simply grabbed mid-air, and crushed with his bare hand.
"Yes! Yes! You're a totally different person now!", he laughed. "And I know you're enjoying it, Spruce!" He came after me once more.
Twelve-Ax pointed his left palm towards me, and conjured a log, which he punched in my direction; for some reason, looking at the spell caused me a big headache, and I barely was able to jump away from the thing, and when I looked up again, the huge man was already over me, his foot just a few centimeters away from my ribs.
"Garh..!", I coughed blood as I was sent rolling away from my opponent.
"Come on, Spruce, we are just beginning! Show what you've learned so far."
"You… asked for it…!", I replied in between deep breaths, getting up on shacky legs. My left ribs hurt so much, I feared that they had been broken. But I couldn't simply lay on the ground and give up. "Huurgh…!", I charged at the huge man, three times my size.
And the next time he conjured a long and punched it in my way, I slid beneath the thing. Just like the last time, Twelve-Ax was ready to kick me again after I dodged his spell, but this time I was waiting for it, and rolled to the side, putting a cut on the enemy's calf with my knife.
"Oho! Excellent footwork!", He continued to treat me as if I was just going through another one of his training sessions. I was dying to make that smile vanish from his face and make him realize just how serious I was…!
Next, Twelve-Ax brandished his weapon my way, and I stepped aside, letting the blade pass right before my face. But the he stopped the weapon on its trajectory, and hit me with the flat side of his stone ax, sending me all the way to the wall.
It was time for my back to start hurting then, for once I hit the bone wall, the air was forcibly removed from my lungs, and I felt as if my spine had shattered in a thousand pieces; every movement hurt.
I hurled my knife at the approaching enemy, but he slapped it away. I tried to escape with the rolling trunk trick once more, but the man read my magic waste and hit the ground with his ax right where I would escape.
"Join us. You have the right spirit!", he extended me a hand, as I stood there on the ground, seating on my butt, already out of magic and sweating profusely.
I looked at his palm, my eyes were enraptured by its image. The opportunity to grow even more, to steal, to become strong.
"…Yeah, yeah, I've heard this type of crap before. You'd just make me another goon and I'd never really grow into something more than that", I swapped the hand bigger than my head away, smiling mockingly even though I couldn't stop shaking from fear.
"…What a shame. Then, you'll die here", Instead of grabbing my hand, Twelve-Ax strangled me, with his grasp, and raised me to his eye level. "You never had a chance."
"Th- That's because… I never planned to win. S- Stupid", I managed to whisper with my last breath as my vision turned dark, and I felt weaker and weaker.
"Hu?", Twelve-Ax didn't seem to immediately understand it. But once the doors to the portal room exploded in a tempest of lightning, and a wingless bird-man walked in, frowning so deep his face was almost unrecognizable, he seemed to finally get it, and let me go, foolishly preparing himself to fight one of the Council Member Goshalk.
It seemed Ike managed to distract the goons making hostages for long enough for the real heroes of the day to show up.
