I was so bothered by the whole situation, I could do nothing but dig my face on my pillow, and hit my arms and legs against my mattress, stressed.
"Bammibh!" I shouted in my pillow. Getting up I stared at one of the hundreds of dolls I had sewed in the shape of Council Member Goshalk, and asked it: "What should do? This is humiliating, there are apprentices who need me right now, but I'm locked in this room, unable to do anything…"
I sighed, hugging the doll, and looking to the mirror besides my bed: a ghostly reflection of a frail woman with pale skin and hair and eyes stared back at me. So ugly... I didn't even have the courage to show that face in public. So, I pulled my hoodie down, hiding my face under shadows. Before I had got back to dwell on my own misery, however, a racket made itself heard just outside the door.
"What?! Garh…!", it was the voice of the guard who was kept before my door, making sure I wouldn't get out, else his friends would murder as many apprentices as they could.
"…Council Member Umbra?", I heard a somewhat familiar voice outside. I rushed to the door, and unlocked it, opening it just enough to peek though the gap, but to not let anyone see my collection of dolls.
"You, child…!", I recognized the long-legged woman waiting for me on the other side; it was one of the members of the Prea Order. "One of Mari's subordinates, I believe."
"Yes. Anyway, now's not the time, you have to save everyone! We already got a distraction going at the lobby, you just need to get there, and crash that party! My friend is freeing Goshalk right now too!"
I blinked, surprised with the efficiency of the youngest members of the Prea Order. But just as she said, there was no time to waste. I hurried downstair to the lobby. It was finally time to payback those damn invaders!
"Kuah! This pain, the blood flow, the heart beating…! I've been defeated! Oh, it feels amazing! But, can you deal with everyone else, little Strike?!", said a skinny man standing on his hands with a crazed look on his face. A sole apprentice stood before him with a concerned look on his face.
"…He may not be able to do that…", I said, stepping out off the shadows. "But I am."
"Umbra?!", the skinny man who was threatening to kill the apprentices before looked at me with surprise and fear in his eyes. "Y-You guys! Kill the apprentices!"
"Too late… you're all already inside my range", I raised both hands and clouds of green smoke involved the invaders six meters away. In seconds, they all fell to the ground, unconscious.
"What are you waiting for?! Do it!", the skinny man shouted again, and even more of the invaders wearing those black leathery clothes readied themselves behind me, about to take the lives of as many apprentices as they could, but I turned to them, and bathed them in red a liquid, and soon they were on their knees , screaming in pain on the ground.
"You too… shall fall", I starred at the fallen skinny man who seemed to be the leader of the operation there, and conjured my another one of my poisons on him.
Soon after I defeated all of the invaders in the lobby, as the students were all getting up and starting to commemorate, a loud explosion made itself heard: "Craaackckck!", those lovely snaps… Goshalk had just broken the door to the teleportation room, seven meters away from him.
*
A tempest of lightning broke to the heavy bone doors to the teleportation room, scattering the hardened skeleton used as building structure all around, burned to crips.
I stepped over the rubble, ad inside, I saw a tall and muscular man holding a little person, one of our apprentices, by the neck. When someone invaded the Bear Mountain and made hostages of our apprentices, locking us Council Members in our bedrooms, I was already infuriated. But to have the audacity of hurting one of our protegee right before me…
"You…! You will regret this!", I said, tensioning all my muscles and flexing my arms. The stubs I had for wings moved on their own, instinctively, flapping all around my invisible flying mechanism.
"…It seems I can't play around right now", the man hurled away the little person, just further infuriating me, and the two of us stepped closer to one another.
My range seemed to be longer, however, and as soon as the burly man got within seven meters away from me, I conjured a storm of lighting around him.
"Grargrargrargrar…!", he clacked his jaw repeatedly, convulsing under the power of the storm. To my surprise, however, he didn't immediately fainted under the spell, and even had the strength to conjure a log, and punch it in my direction.
"A Second Level spell… Impressive", Dodging the log easily, I couldn't help but notice the spell that had been cast at the same level as I was able to cast my lightnings. "But we're simply not even comparable."
As the invader dashed towards me, getting me withing his range, I raised both hands, and started the conjuration…
"Rooooagh…!", the burly man screamed raising his axe above his head, and conjuring a cascade of tree trunks above my head.
"It's useless!", I shouted, and not only a series of lightnings arched from my body to the wood above, burning it to a brittle dust by the time it hit me, but also a beam from the tip of my fingers hit the burly man right on his chest. And, this time, he fell for good, his eyes turning inside his skull, his body turning limp. He had been knocked unconscious.
"Humph!", I straightened my cloak, and approached the hurt little person. "You did well, apprentice."
"He… Thanks. Mari and Coyote went after the others, by the way", he nodded towards the portal drum. I had no idea who that Coyote was, but if he was with Mari, he must have been an aly.
"…I trust Mari. For now, we, Council Members, can't afford to leave this place. We must make sure our apprentices are safe", I got up from beside the little person, and looked at the drum portal. "This is a fight Mari and Coyote must fight on their own!"
