It was almost 3 A.M. and there was a raging thunderstorm going on. Hua was still up, sitting in the kitchen reading on her laptop. It was a raging stormy day outside with heavy winds and lots of rain.
Hua had heard the thunder and lightning and it shocked her a little bit. It was her first experience hearing it. She had woken up quickly to make sure the plants and greenhouse doors were shut properly. Getting fully soaked through, Hua changed clothes and couldn't get back to sleep.
Since she was already awake, she decided to read and practice her German. She had been using an app that connects learners directly with native speakers. She had been talking to an older gentleman, Walter. He was almost 75 but was himself, on a quest to learn Mandarin.
