Lucas, who was listening to their conversation, was also curious. Raphael's hand, which was taking some croquembouche, stopped briefly when Lucas asked him a question.
"Oh, speaking of Ezra, did he not end up staying here?"
It had been a long time since he last saw the guy, Raphael's childhood friend who used to play with him, the son of chef Sabrina. Lucas would never forget her amazing cooking. The last time he saw the guy was probably at his father and mother's funeral, and even then he didn't get a chance to say hello because Ezra went home straight after the funeral ceremony. He looked like he didn't want to talk, so Lucas just stayed put, giving him a space.
"Ezra? I've asked him to stay here a few times, but he doesn't want to."
"Why? Did uncle Marshall not end up adopting him?"
"No, he refused. And I think it's probably for the best that he did."
