Chapter 11 - monster inside me

Somewhere inside a big hall, an old man could be seen seated on a big majestic throne holding a crystal-clear glass in his hand filled with red liquid. A skinny middle-aged man could be seen trembling with fear on his knees as he looked at that old man.

"What about that place? I told you I need that damn place and you promised me that you will give me that place as soon as possible. It has been quite a while since you gave me your words, don't you dare to test my patience Nolan, don't forget who I am!" The old man exclaimed as he looked at the guy trembling on his knees while a figure draped in a black suit stood behind Nolan.

"My lord, that woman is very persistent. That bitch is not ready to leave that place along with her daughter at any cost. I have my limits too, Lady Melenia's eyes are on me. If I do anything foolish, she is definitely going to kill me. Please just give me some more time," Nolan pleaded in a trembling voice, sweat could be seen dripping from his face.

Upon hearing those words, the old man crushed the glass in his hand and the moment he did that, the black-suited man placed the sword on Nolan's neck. It all happened in the blink of an eye.

Nolan's heart nearly skipped a beat as he felt something sharp on his neck.

"Please give me three more days, I swear… I promise I will not disappoint you." Nolan continued to beg.

"I will give you forty-eight hours. If you fail, then you are useless to me, and I believe you are very well aware of the consequences of failing me," the old man smirked.

"Yes, my lord," Nolan responded in a shaky voice.

"Get lost, you spoiled my drink," the old man said sternly. The moment Nolan heard those words, he scurried away from the hall as if his life depended on it.

"I am surrounded by idiots, Marcus. If he fails this time, you know what you have to do, right? Make sure to give him a painful death." The old man tilted his head towards the left and looked at the man who was now standing beside his throne.

"Yes, my lord," The black-suited man responded calmly.

Meanwhile, Veronica dragged William to the upper floor where she lived with her daughter. She was confused about her own actions as if she didn't know what she was doing anymore.

William was about to leave the hotel but she stopped him from leaving. She didn't know why she stopped a person she barely knew. Her brain seemed to be at war with her heart. Her brain told her that she needed to stay away from William but her heart kept telling her something else. In the end, she followed her heart.

William and Veronica soon reached the second floor. William took a quick glance at the place. It was made to serve as a hotel with plenty of rooms that were made especially for guests to reside in.

"Follow me, and I'll show you your room," Veronica said in a low voice as she looked at William.

William nodded his head with a smile and started following behind Veronica. After taking a few steps, Veronica stopped in front of a particular room and slightly pushed the door open to check whether her daughter was sleeping or not. Noticing Roselyn sleeping soundly on her bed, she took a deep sigh and turned back to William.

"This is Roselyn's room. It's good that she was able to sleep after all the hustle that happened outside the hotel. She sure is a brave girl." Veronica smiled proudly as she looked at William.

"Yes, she is indeed a very brave kid. You raised her very well. She is lucky to have a mother like you." William responded to Veronica. William's words made Veronica's heart nearly jump out of her body.

He sounded so mature despite his young age. For a moment, Veronica felt younger in front of him. Gradually, she came to her senses and started walking again. William followed her quietly and a while later, she stopped in front of another room that was a few meters away from Roselyn's room.

"This is your room, and right next to it is my room..." Veronica said as she opened the door and entered the room. William followed her from behind, his eyes continuously scanning his surroundings. The room was quite spacious and it was well-maintained from the inside. As Veronica opened the window of the room, a cold gust of wind welcomed her.

"Do you like it? This is one of the best rooms we have, but alas it hasn't been used in a while." She said with a sad expression. Hearing her speak like that, William approached her and tilted his head to stare at her.

"Thank you, you are a very kind lady." He said as he looked at Veronica.

As William's eyes glowed in the moonlight filtering in from the windows, Veronica's heart started beating faster again when she heard his words.

"Your eyes are very deep, I have never seen this kind of eyes before. There is something different about you that makes you distinct from others. I don't know what it is, but you are very different..." Veronica responded in a daze as she unconsciously raised her hand and touched William's face.

She wanted to stop herself from doing that but her body refused to listen to her. She felt attracted to him. Both of them stood right next to the window, looking into each other's eyes with myriad emotions. The cold wind blowing in ruffled their hair and calmed them.

"Too many things are different about me. I wonder how you will respond when you know my true self," William smiled as he placed his hand over Veronica's hand. The moment he did that, Veronica felt a shiver run through her whole body.

"I want to know everything about you, tell me why I feel this vulnerable around you." Veronica said as she took a step closer to William.

"You are not the first woman who felt that way towards me. You are just attracted to me. You are a good human being Veronica but I am not someone who can be loved. There is a monster hidden behind this face and sometimes,I don't know how to control this monster. In the end, it only brings disaster to my close ones."
