Chapter 27 - The pocong is coming

The cemetery in the first village has been passed, that means another two hundred meters we will pass through the village graves. Honestly, I'm also afraid, but I don't want to get carried away with suggestions from people.

"Ren, you..."

"I'm okay Nimas, if you're scared just close your eyes" Reno answered firmly.

There was a strange feeling actually, at school Reno liked bullying me a lot, he even made me cry a lot. But tonight, Reno can be calm and make me comfortable. No wonder Wiwin was crazy about him.

After passing the first tomb from the next village, we will now pass the tomb from our village. There is no longer the smell of flowers, but the smell is less pleasing to the nostrils. I also don't understand, it seems like this funeral is the only one that smells bad. The smell of carrion always smells on the way to the grave, but strangely when we are inside the grave there is not the slightest bit of a bad smell.

I looked back, Widya and Dika were still about 2 meters from us. "Safe" I whispered to myself.

The motorbike moves slower on this road, on the right there is an uphill road. The incline road is shaped like a ladder. Stairs rose high from the path leading to the tomb, I tried not to look up them. But something was troubling the corner of the eye.

"Nimas! Don't look there," said Reno.

I was a bit surprised, Reno seemed to know what I was thinking. So far, the only person who knows that I'm a sensitive person is Widya, and I'm sure that Widya is able to keep this secret tightly. But how can Reno know... Could Reno also see what I see?

"Just focus on the front, or close your eyes" Reno said again.

"Y... Yes Ren" I replied then looked down to close my helmet glass.

I don't know how many minutes it took, but finally Reno's motorbike was able to pass through the tomb road without any problems. Our primary school was already visible and we can breathe a sigh of relief because it is close to residential areas.

"Huft... Haha, finally" Reno said laughing with relief.

"Ren... Dika and Widya haven't been seen yet" I said worriedly, immediately Reno's laughter turned tense.

"What?!" Reno immediately hit the brakes.

We both turned our heads back, looking at the road to the tomb that was closed by the darkness of the night. Indeed, the large and dense banyan trees above the tomb, make the hairs stand on end.

"Ren... What happened?" I asked with an uneasy feeling.

"I don't know Nimas" Reno was silent for a moment then looked at me doubtfully.

"Are they still there? Ren can't even see the motorbike's headlights. Even though Dika used a flashlight earlier, it should be clearly visible from here, right?" I asked again.

I started to worry, afraid something would happen to both of them. "Let's... catch up with them, come on" I said a bit doubtfully. While Reno silently stared at the road with doubt.

"Are you sure?" Reno tries to test my faith.

"I'm more afraid if our friends are okay," I said, starting to shake.

"Okay. We'll catch up with them," said Reno.

Before turning back the motorbike, Reno was seen taking a deep breath many times. I can feel that Reno is actually scared, but on the other hand he is also worried for his two best friends. Until here there is no sound from the two of them, how is this? What happened? My mind wrestled with anxiety.

"Ren, stop first. Try turning on the shooting lights and highlighting the road to the tomb," I said to Reno. I want to make sure Widya and Dika are there, before we approach the graveyard again.

"Okay" Reno replied, he stopped his motorbike and then highlighted the road with his motorbike's flashing light.

I strained my eyes, from the spotlight I saw Widya and Dika getting off their motorbike, then they waved at us.

"That's them Ren" I said. Reno stepped on the gas immediately approached him.

I didn't care about my fear, at that time the worry for Widya was bigger. "Wid, why did you stop here?" I said opening the windshield and then get off the motorbike.

"I don't want to stop here, Nimas, but my motorbike suddenly turns off and can't be started," explained Widya.

"How Dika, is there something wrong with the bike?" Reno asked Dika who was focused on checking Widya's motorbike.

"Everything is fine Ren, nothing is broken. I don't know what made this motorbike crash even though the petrol was still full" replied Dika.

Reno tried to help Dika check the motorbike, while Widya and I stood waiting for them. But, suddenly Widya hugged my arm tightly.

"Nimas, I don't feel good," she whispered.

I'm speechless. Actually I felt the same feeling, but I kept quiet and tried to act calm.

"Just pray Wid, hopefully nothing will go wrong. And your motorbike can start again. Remember, don't look anywhere, focus." I replied. Widya nodded, but her hand still didn't let go of my arm.

Srrerkkk.... Krasak... Krasak... The sound of bushes and dry leaves, like something is walking stumbling on dry leaves. We were all speechless, including Reno and Dika.

"Listen. Whatever you hear, don't look anywhere. Got it!" said Reno.

We all nodded in agreement. Reno and Dika tried to start the motorbike, while Widya and I waited next to them.

Herrgghhh.... There was a heavy growling sound, the movement sounded slow but clear, Widya and I stopped breathing for a moment.

"Wh... What sound is that Nimas?" whispered Widya starting to shake.

"Sssttt. It's okay, maybe nocturnal animals. Just shut up and don't look anywhere!" I asked again.

Widya closed her eyes tightly, she put her head on my shoulder. I rubbed her back to calm her down.

"How is Ren? Is there something wrong?" I asked. I'm really uncomfortable here.

"There's nothing wrong, Nimas, but Widya's motorbike still can't start," said Reno. They had tried the starter many times but Widya's motorbike was totally dead.

We also tried to steer the motorbike, but the wheels wouldn't turn and got stuck.

My heart seemed to beat fast. My body felt cold and goosebumps, there was something that came to be seen at the corner of my eyes, she was standing with a white cloth near the steps of the tomb. The stench hit the nose sharply. The dark atmosphere made the white cloth clearly visible, at first the creature's body swayed back and forth slowly.

"Re... Reno... Are you done yet?" I said shaking.

"Patience Nimas" Reno seemed to feel the same way, he panicked even more and kept trying to start Widya's motorbike with a foot pump.

"What's wrong Nimas?" asked Widya, she felt my body start to shake.

"D... Don't look to the side of Wid, don't" I said squeezing Widya's hand.

"Sh... She's coming huh?" said Widya, starting to tremble in fear.

"Yeah..." I replied shaking too.

"Throw her out Nimas, drive her away"

"Huh? I... I... I..." couldn't say anything. Somehow it happened, the pocong who had been standing on the stairs was now beside the Durian tree behind us.
