"It's scary. Luckily you met good people and helped you," said Widya.
"Alhamdulillah, God still helps me with his intermediary. Since that incident, every time I drive a truck, I never stop the truck even though someone is waving to ask for a ride. Traumatized" said uncle shuddering.
"But, is there a historical story about the tragedy on that street uncle? For example a murder or something? So there is a ghost of a woman with a skull face" I asked curiously.
"I don't know girl, it's just what the locals say, sometimes you see a woman wearing a headscarf and wearing a kebaya. Sometimes she stands with her back to the road, sometimes she walks quickly and mysteriously disappears. But as for the history of that woman, I don't get any information."
"Nimas, do we need to go there to..." before Widya finished speaking, I immediately cut her off.
"Wid, don't be ridiculous. You want the pocong interview even though it hasn't been completed yet, do you still want to add the ghost with the skull face? Are you sure?" I said.
"Ah haha. N... No, that's not what I meant Nimas. I was just kidding, haha" said Widya immediately evasively. While uncle and aunt chuckled at our conversation.
*****
It's amazing that early in the morning I've been treated to spooky stories, I'm starting to feel hungry, just hearing the stories feels like running the field five times, weak, pounding and sweating.
"Don't go home yet, I've prepared the food. Anyway, you have to eat before you go home" Aunt said and then said goodbye to the kitchen again.
"Okay Auntie, I also happen to be hungry. We didn't have breakfast earlier" Widya replied without hesitation.
Basic Widya, you can't just make small talk. But yeah, I'm hungry too. While waiting for Aunt to cook, we went to the fields behind Uncle's house. The distance is not too far, maybe about 10 meters from his house. Incidentally uncle was harvesting sweet potatoes, he would pull out some sweet potatoes for us to take home later. Not bad... Granny will be pleased.
I looked around the garden, besides the sweet potato tree there was also a jackfruit tree that was bearing fruit. There are soursop trees, also banana trees. Not far from the jackfruit tree, I saw a hut there.
suddenly my eyes caught someone who was walking beside the hut. I turned to Widya, but she was busy pulling sweet potatoes from the tree. Finally, I returned to observe again
It was clear who was walking near the hut like an old woman. Her gray hair was long loose, her face was not clearly visible because it was blocked by her hair, she walked hunched over, wearing a brown shirt and brown cloth bottoms. The figure walked towards the back of the hut.
"Maybe she is uncle's neighbor who happens to be there. But... What is she doing in this uncle's garden?" I asked myself. Out of curiosity, I immediately followed the grandmother. Slowly but surely, the hunchbacked grandmother walked towards the back of the hut. I rushed after her and wanted to ask what she was doing. Who knows she is senile and lost.
The faster I caught up with the grandmother, the faster the grandmother seemed to walk. Even if you look at her steps so slowly, until in the end I was right behind her. But strange... In the blink of an eye the hunchbacked grandmother disappeared without a trace and all I see in front of me now is an old well covered with zinc.
"What... Really?!... Where was the grandmother?" I muttered while looking for the hunchbacked grandmother.
Until I tried to go around the hut twice, I still couldn't find the hunchbacked grandmother I saw just now. "Weird, she was still in front of my eyes" I said confused. I stopped and fell silent, while remembering how the grandmother disappeared.
"Nimas!" Widya patted my shoulder from behind.
"Astaghfirullah. Widya! Can you not surprise me!"
"Yeah, what are you doing here all alone?"
I was silent while patting my chest, My friend really likes to surprise me, if this continues I'll have a heart attack!
"What's wrong Widya, Nimas?" asked Uncle approached us.
"Uncle, I saw a hunchbacked grandmother here. She walked to the back of the hut but when I followed her, she disappeared near the well," I explained.
Uncle was silent for a moment, his face looked very surprised. He then looked at the well and then looked at me again. "Come on, let's go back. Aunt must have finished cooking. Come on, let's go back quickly" Pakde said and immediately ushered us back to his house in a hurry.
"Are you serious Nimas, saw the hunchbacked grandmother?" asked Widya in a whisper.
"Yes. I saw it very clearly. I thought she was uncle's neighbor but when I arrived she was gone" I replied.
We came home carrying sweet potatoes that had been harvested just now. After washing our hands and feet, we returned to the living room.
"Nimas, did the hunchbacked grandmother say something to you?" asked Uncle with a serious face.
"No, she just walked towards the well and then disappeared. I was curious Uncle, how could a grandmother like that walk that fast, only after a few seconds I couldn't find her anymore" I explained then sipped my tea.
Uncle took a deep breath, then looked at me intently. "Girl, what you saw earlier was not a human, or my neighbor. She is the ghost that guards the old well behind the hut," said the uncle.
The tea that was still in my mouth felt like I wanted to spit it out when I heard uncle's words. "Wh... What... Not human? But I saw that grandma very clearly, I thought she... She..." I said then rubbed my arms because of goosebumps.
"Residents here call her a hunchbacked grandmother. Because of her crooked walk, she usually appears once in a while, sometimes someone sees her with a bun, some see her with loose hair and even then only certain people can see her" said the uncle, then looked at me carefully.
