Oops, I forgot that today is Widya's birthday. I haven't prepared a present for her yet, how about this? I don't want to disappoint my best friend. I whispered to myself.
"You get ready now. I'll pick you up later! Don't worry, I've also invited my other friends. We'll get together later," she said again then Widya hurried off.
I was confused, what gift would I give in that short time, I sat pensively for a moment but my mind still didn't find an answer.
"Yeah, I'll think about it later, the important thing is I have to get ready now."
But on the other hand I have to ask my grandmother's permission first, I'm a bit doubtful whether grandma will allow me to go, especially since it's late like this.
"Nimas, where are you going?" Grandma asked when she saw my clothes were neat.
"Grandma, today is Widya's birthday, we will celebrate it with friends. Can I, Grandma?"
"But it's already afternoon, where is the event? What time are you coming home?"
Grandma's question made me flutter but I also can't lie, I'm afraid of the sin of lying to grandma
"In the town square, Grandma, what time to go home... I don't know but I try not to come home too late" I replied a little scared, afraid that grandma would be angry.
Grandma was silent for a moment, her face looked worried but I tried to reassure her that I wouldn't be home too late.
"Grandma, I'm allowed to go. Widya is my best friend, if I don't come she will be sad. Grandma, don't worry, there are lots of friends coming, so we will go and come home together"
"Okay, then. Always be careful, okay? Take care of yourself and remember... Don't come home too late."
"Yes grandma, thank you" I said then hugged grandma and kissed her cheek.
"Assalamualaikum... Nimaaass" Widya's voice greeted me and called my name in her trademark tone.
"I'm coming... Grandma, I'm leaving, okay?" I said while kissing grandma's hand. "Little brother and sister, I go first, don't be naughty!" I said goodbye to my younger siblings.
After saying goodbye I went straight to Widya who was waiting on her motorbike. "Grandma, let's go first," said Widya, taking the time to shake hands with my grandmother
"Be careful! Remember, don't come home too late"
"Yes grandma. Assalamualaikum" we said in unison then Widya drove her motorbike.
Actually, I feel bad for Widya, I really forgot that today is her birthday. Confused because there is no gift for me to give her. Along the way I was silent while thinking, what gift will I give her? Doll? Bag? Makeup tools? Ah no way, she's a girl who doesn't like makeup. I'm busy struggling with my thoughts.
"Nimasss!" shouted Widya while tapping my leg.
"Eh. Yes, what's wrong Wid?" I said surprised.
"Ish... You are dumbfounded! You have been called silent before" she protested angrily.
"Really? I didn't hear you call me"
"What are you thinking about? Are you having a problem?"
"No Wid, no problem. I'm fine" I replied, even though in my head I was thinking about a present for her. Huft.
"Nimas, there will be some of my friends from other schools, is that okay? I'll introduce you later," she said. Widya knows that I'm a person who can't get along with new people, that's why he told me first.
"Um... Yes" I answered briefly. Good, I'm getting dizzy thinking about gifts, plus I'm thinking about how I will be in front of her friends. Yes, I'm just silent like a statue. Oh, think about it later.
After about 20 minutes of walking to the town square, we finally arrived. It turned out that many had come, some of our friends, some of Widya's friends from other schools. Honestly I'm a bit insecure, they are very beautiful and elegant. Meanwhile, I'm just sober.
Cheers and birthday greetings immediately flocked to Widya, gifts from large and small ones were also there. Understandably, Widya is one of those who are. Meanwhile, I'm just a simple girl. Far when compared with her and other friends.
"Hey, meet me. This is Nimas, my favorite friend," said Widya, hugging me spoiled.
"Hi I'm Nimas" I said with a smile while greeting them one by one.
Many are friendly to me, but there are also those who look at me sarcastically and only hold their hand for a second when shaking hands. Yes, I understand. I realize who I am.
"Nimas... You arrived" asked Reno. There is also Dika who greeted me while grinning mischievously.
"Yes, I came with Widya" I replied with a friendly smile.
"Nimas, what did grandma say so you could go? Usually grandma doesn't allow you to go out to play especially in the afternoon like this" said Dika.
"Hey, Dika, I got permission from my grandmother if I and Nimas went to the town square to celebrate my birthday. It's already lucky that Nimas wants to come with me, so don't disturb her!" said Widya embracing my shoulder.
"Come on, we better sit and chat in a while the food will come" said Widya again.
We sat together, sharing stories with each other. I paused for a moment observing the atmosphere, Widya was busy talking with her friends. Maybe this is my chance to go out for a while to find a gift for her.
"Reno, let's take me. Do you bring a motorbike?" I said to Reno in a whisper.
"Bring it. Where do you want to take it?"
"To the gift shop over there. I want to find something for Widya, please deliver it," I said pitifully.
"Eummm... Okay, let's go" Reno agreed.
"Wait a minute, I'll tell Widya first okay?"
"Okay. After this, you just go to the parking lot, I'll prepare the motorbike"
I gave Reno a sign of approval. After saying goodbye to Widya, I immediately followed Reno to the parking lot, hoping that I would find something suitable for Widya later. It's not too far from the town square, only about 5 minutes by motorbike.
