History of our World
By Grey Stone
Our world is a fascinating place, able to sustain not just humans but also the life of other creatures like ants and deer, as well as monsters. Not just that, our world is able to contain mana, which has not just allowed for the creation of Knights and other occupations which utilise mana through their bodies but has also facilitated the birth of the Magi.
However, do you truly know how this world of ours was created? Well, I have wondered this question, and this book is the accumulation of all the knowledge I have collected, as well as some speculations in order to bring the facts together.
To understand this, we need to return countless years into the past, before Magi existed, before Knights existed, before humans existed…
The world was nothing. Just the emptiness we now call the endless void that still exists outside our world. However, a being of unimaginable proportions was either killed or decided to end its existence here.
The dead body slowly changed over countless years, until it formed a world in itself, filled with microorganisms consuming the body of the creature. More organisms formed consuming the microorganisms and dying with time to become the food of the microorganisms. The cycle repeated as the population of living creatures increased, and different species evolved as hundreds of thousands of years passed until humans finally evolved.
The fanatics of the church will argue that God created humans as the perfect creations, but that is all nonsense to fool others into following their teachings, especially those in power with overinflated egos.
Anyways, after the evolution of humans, society slowly formed as humans gathered together, slowly forming supernatural powers based on the system of mana. These powers are now referred to as External Arts.
Humanity relied on external arts for a long time, until one day an invasive species arrived in our world. The invasive species we now refer to as Demons first came across our world and portrayed themselves as saviours, willing to spread their knowledge in exchange for some land.
What the humans of that era did not know, was that these stone-skinned demons were actually spreading evil Arts throughout the world, and also slowly spreading their influence throughout the world, effectively taking over it without killing everyone.
Thankfully, the Gods descended onto the 'mortal plane' as they call our world, unshackling us humans from the restraints of the demons. Yes, the 'Gods' were indeed quintessential parts of the survival of the human race, and I will not deny it.
However, the demons who were nearly pushed out of the world, called for reinforcements from their civilisation, bringing in countless experts who brought down almost all of the gods, with only the current God of Light luckily escaping the battlefield with wounds that severely weakened him.
But this battle lasted for over a millennium, and during this time, humanity had already given birth to a power system far stronger than anything the demons could have ever dreamed of; Magi.
The Magi combined the ability of External Arts to manipulate Mana, and the Knights' ability to absorb and retain Mana, to create a power system which seemed to defy rules that should have never been defied.
Human Magi rapidly rose through the Ranks, reached power levels at the same level as the gods, and also joined the battle against the Demons.
We called such God-level Magi; Sorcerers and they encompass Rank 5 through 9
This is where the facts I have accumulated end, since not a single god-level mage has returned to the world until now. However, what we do know is that neither did a single demon.
We also know that the God of light has been unable to descend onto the 'mortal plane' ever since the war, and every mage who reached the Sorcerer Rank has been forced to leave our world due to unknown forces.
At the very least, we can assume that Magi have not lost the war yet.
…
Kai nodded in his mind as this new information flooded his mind from the system imprinting it all into his mind. Thankfully, he had told the system to not just summarise the books but also to send it into his mind very slowly to prevent his mind from overloading.
The next book which entered his mind was about how much Spiritual Energy was needed for each Rank, as well as cases of people reaching higher Ranks with more than one spell.
In summary, the fact that held Magi back from rising in Ranks was the calculation process. With each Rank, the time it took to calculate the modifications to the spells would exponentially rise, and having to do this twice generally meant that those who were unable to complete them before their lifespan ran out died before they could reach the next Rank and receive the boost in lifespan.
However, there have been cases of Half-breeds between humans and monsters with abnormally long lifespans, as well as those with abnormal calculation skills, which has allowed them to learn two or three elements and reach the Grand Mage Rank.
However, Kai did not wish to be restricted to the Grand Mage Rank, which was essentially Rank 3.
On the other hand, his system provided an utterly broken ability to complete calculations, which should allow him to breeze through the ranks.
The only thing which would restrict him was his Spiritual Energy. And in order to increase his spiritual Energy, Kai had plenty of methods.
