Chapter 32 - Chains?

For Yu, the first thing he sensed was the cold touch of thick metal on his wrists, ankles, as well as around his neck.

Next, he felt an intense stinging from the areas around the mask. However, before he could investigate that, he felt a dull but excruciating pain originating from the back of his head. Unfortunately for him, the system was not here to scan his body.

Based on the system's calculations which Kai asked it to do, the dull pain at the back of his head was likely caused by his kidnappers who continuously knocking him unconscious, while the stinging pain was likely caused by them or some others trying to remove his mask, either cutting his skin using a weapon or trying to peel the mask off, ultimately resulting in torn skin.

Yu tried to look around, however, despite his eyes having become accustomed to the darkness, he still could not make out a single thing. Feeling around with his hands while bearing through the pain, Yu was able to make out that he was in chains, with the chains linking his feet and his hands to his neck.

Normally, something like this would have restricted the movement of someone, however, Kai's body was that of a child, and the intended 'user' of these chains was clearly a fully grown adult. That or they were chains which only served as added weight to the 'user' without restricting their movements one bit.

"Shh!" Yu heard a voice from somewhere behind him, and so he immediately turned around to face the voice, only to be met by more darkness through which he could not see.

However, in the next moment, the crisp sound of unlocking metal locks reverberated throughout the place he was in before a clang was heard and the metal door was swung open.

*Creek*

A bright light akin to the sun illuminating the deserted and dark space shone into the room, instantly blinding Yu who was coincidentally looking that that exact direction.

"Ya iha iis kiku mal!"

A strange voice entered Yu's ears, and Kai who was riding on his horse immediately asked the system to help Yu understand it. Unfortunately, there was too little information about it, especially considering that only a single sentence was heard, and the person speaking had not performed any actions to elaborate on the meaning behind the sentence.

The system then said that it would need at least 200 sentences with different meanings to be able to somewhat understand the language, and if actions were performed with the sentences, then it would be even easier.

Kai sighed as he continued to relay everything Yu experienced in his mind to the system to help it analyse the language and perhaps give Yu an edge in whatever situation he was in.

Yu on the other hand had full trust that Kai was doing his best with the system to help him, so he just went along with whatever was happening.

A few seconds passed and Yu looked away from the origin of the light which was the door in front of him and looked around.

The ground and the walls, as well as the ceiling, were made of a hard and coarse rock chiselled down to be barely considered as 'flat surfaces'. Clearly, this was not a construction above ground, but rather an underground location carved into a rock using primitive tools and methods to achieve this goal.

Furthermore, there were no pillars to support the large stone roof to prevent it from collapsing and killing those inside.

Behind him, there was an old and frail-looking man who was rather close to him, however, this man was now frantically retreating from the door. This bearded old man was likely the one who had made the sound to him in the darkness.

Behind and around the old man were around 14 other people in chains, just like himself and the old man, who were all retreating as well. Seeing that everyone was retreating, Yu decided to follow them as well.

Being in an unknown location surrounded by unknown people, it just made sense to follow the crowd until he understood something about his situation.

More uncoherent sounds were made by the man on the other side of the door before all of a sudden a man wearing odd attire reminding Yu of pirates from the history movies, opened the door and walked in.

During the time between the door opening and the appearance of the man, Yu had already used the strong light from behind the door to observe the condition of his body. The pain from the area around his mask, just as the system had predicted was indeed from wounds which although no longer bleeding, were rather large and needed to be taken care of or else they might fester with bacteria causing infection.

There was also a slightly swollen bump on his head, however, the pain had already subsided in that area, meaning it should not be an immediate issue.

Furthermore, he was not wearing the same clothes that he had been wearing before, with all his clothes, along with weapons being confiscated by the kidnappers. He was currently stark naked in the chains, along with all the others in the room with him, making him feel rather uncomfortable.

After searching around in the few seconds left, Yu had not been able to spot Bob, which meant that he was either hidden in a deeper part of the crowd of around 20 people of various ages and builds, or he was in another room.

The pirate-looking man pointed at 10 of the twenty people here, and either fortunately or unfortunately, Yu was also included in that.

Seeing that the 9 others who were selected stepped forward with worried expressions, Yu resigned himself and also stepped forward, his mask covering his anxious expression as his eyes darted around trying to figure a way to get out of there.

Wherever he was, it was definitely not a place he wanted to stay for too long based on the expression of others like him.

The pirate-like man continued to speak nonsense before walking towards the door, the 9 others following behind him with their heads lowered. Seeing this, Yu also followed, when suddenly a yell came from Yu's right.
