Chapter 34 - Target

Using this information about the number, as well as what Yu, and all the other names pronounced by the 5 others before he looked like in writing, the system immediately began to decode the language, and within just 2 seconds, it had uncovered what most of the written language, and presented a writing equivalent of all the possible words Yu might want to say.

But this would not be of much use to either Yu or Kai since Kai did not need the language, and to Yu, it would be far more useful to speak the language rather than write it.

Plus, in order to write it, he would need to think about each word and let Kai search for it in the system's newly created dictionary, before translating the word without approximately 10-20 seconds delay.

At best, this method could be used to slowly read and understand what written words meant in the new language, but the only written words he had seen so far were on the contract and on the notepad of the butler.

Yu looked around and noticed that everything in this room was also chiselled into stone, however, unlike the rooms where he and the others were held before, this room had wooden pillars all around the walls as well as wooden braces to support the ceiling. Clearly, they thought this room with only the butler was more important than the ones they had been at.

'Well, if this is the only entrance and exit to the underground location, then it would definitely be more important.' Yu mused to himself as he sucked on his dirty and bleeding thumb to help it heal faster.

Meanwhile, in a certain auction house right above where Yu currently was, two hooded figures entered after flashing a black card. The auction house guard who saw the black card had his eyes bulging as he bowed to the VIPs entering their little auction house.

"Winston, what are we doing here? Her Maj-" one of them said in a feminine voice.

"Shh! Nobody should know who we are. 'She' had said 'she' wanted an attendant or two. We can't just have regular attendants for 'her' now can we? We need those who are bound to her by slave contracts of the highest quality to ensure their loyalty at all times." The other said in a similar feminine voice.

Within the auction house at the royal capital of the Santok Empire, the two hooded figures took their seats in the private rooms on the first floor of the auction house, watching various kinds of people file into the auction house and take their seats on the ground floor.

Most people wore masks or some sort of method like cloaks to protect their real identities. Although auction houses prided themselves in not revealing the identities of others, as long as you bought something another wanted really badly, and they saw your face, they would find ways to locate you.

Therefore, hiding your face was definitely a common aspect of auction houses like this.

A few minutes later, a beautifully dressed young lady came onto the stage, her long red dress perfectly contrasted her blond hair.

"Good evening ladies and gentlemen. Welcome to the Kress auction house! We have spent the past 4 months collecting the most interesting items, exquisite oddities, and rare materials, all for this very moment. So, before we begin, just like every auction until now, we must first explain all the basic rules."

"All auction purchases are not returnable; however, we guarantee their authenticity as we get each of our items inspected by independent experts before putting them up for auction. Of course, this does not include the surprise mystery boxes, which may include treasures beyond your wildest dreams or just simple junk."

"If you make a bid, but are unable to make the payment right at this very moment, you will lose your privilege to purchasing the item and it will go back for auction in the next auction. No credit allowed!"

"Using your supernatural powers, including external arts as well as magic, will be considered a hostile act again the auction house. Using your status is allowed… at your own risk of course" The host winked at the audience as they burst into laughter.

"Lastly, I will explain how the auction works."

"For the first hour, we will be selling slaves of various quality, sold using coins as the basic currency. For the next hour, we will be selling rare materials for gold coins. Following that will be interesting items; ranging from unknown objects to magic tools and treasures for mana crystals."

"So, without wasting any more time, let the auction begin!"

As the two hooded figures watched the host with rapt attention, she made a gesture towards the wings of the stage. Two men walked out, one of them looked like a pirate with an eye patch, a wooden leg, and a stubble on his face, while the other was a burly man with ripping muscles across his body, and an incredibly masculine chin.

Being each one of them, a row of people in chains followed. A row of 10 males and a row of 10 females of various ages, however, one thing was common for them, all of them were completely normal humans.

"Our target should be one or two of them. We will not be able to leave the auction house completely unharmed without revealing our true identities if we purchase one of the stronger knight or mage slaves." The second hooded figure said as the first nodded in agreement.
