Chapter 37 - Justice Reaped: When the Bad Guy Becomes the Anti-Hero

Once I had gotten the information from the men, I sent them both on their way but instructed that both men set up a meeting for me with their bosses to meet at my warehouse. Both men casually agreed, but then I reminded them that I would not be taking the bugs out of their ears until this was so. That got me much better responses from both, and I headed back up to the roof.

As I walked out onto the roof, my wasp drones came over to land on me. I reloaded them with micro bugs and radioed Kilna as Coron ran over to me with a relieved look. "Take the drones over to Alizra's area. Once you are there, I need you to search out any of the Order that are in the area. I am loading the two wasps with micro bugs, so once you have found one of the Order, get a face scan, and then tell the drone to paint the target, and label them as numbers, starting from 1," I said in my head as Coron stopped in front of me.

"You survived!" Coron said excitedly, and I nodded, patting the kid's head. He looked worried, but if I had died, he would have been following, so I understood.

"Yeah," I said as Kilna confirmed with me, and the two drones took off. Then I walked over and picked up the kid, who flinched back but didn't stop me. "Hold on tight."

Before the kid could ask why, I burst forward, and Coron instantly grabbed at my chest until I caused handles to form for his little hands to grab onto as I launched myself into the open air. I traveled thirty feet across the street and landed on the roof on the other side, but I hit a loose patch of shake and started to slip. Almost instantly, spikes shot from my feet into the roof, and I stopped, looking down at Coron.

He was looking back at me with a grin, and big eyes, making me smirk. "Stay quiet," I said, and he nodded and then looked forward as I started to move.

The sun was starting to go down, and my internal clock told me that it was just about to turn 8pm. I ordered Fawna to bring Zarek home as I moved along, but I was also scanning the alleys and streets that I leaped over, sending bugs down to people that I found interesting or seemed important. There were people out now, but it was clear that the streets were starting to empty.

"Do many people come out at night?" I asked Coron as I waited for the street to clear to leap across it.

"Some do, but not normal people. There is a period just before dark when most regular working folk head in, and then the criminal element starts coming out. The thing is that the criminals know this and take advantage of this," Coron explained as I stood up and was about to leap, but I heard a scream come from about 5 blocks to my right.

A woman's scream.

"Razor? Aren't we going back to the warehouse?!" Coron asked as my body turned in the direction of the scream on its own and then stopped, giving me back complete control.

"There was a scream nearby," I said, and started to run, jumping to the next roof with an urgency that was not wholly my own.

It was Numera's, but I don't think I could have ignored the scream even without her forced intervention. Still, forced or not, this was another chance to make an impression on the underworld of this city.

I landed on the roof above the wall where a man had a woman pinned down and was trying to force himself on her after setting Coron down, who looked scared. I jumped down three stories, my legs changing as I did to completely absorb the fall as I landed nearly silent. The man didn't seem to hear me over the woman's cries for him to stop.

"Shut up, you stupid bitch!" The black-haired man growled, raising his hand to slap her.

As the hand swung down, the man screamed out in pain as the hand fell off and started to spray blood all over the woman. I flicked the blood off the hydrophobic razor blade I had extended 6 inches from a finger and then retracted it as I flung the man into the wall.

The woman, who was covered in blood, had stopped screaming and just stared at me in shock as I walked over to the crying man whose pants were at his knees, exposing himself. This type of human was the worst, and to make things worse, his outfit was that of a city guard.

I grabbed the man by the neck since it was clear that my message hadn't made it around the city yet. It was time to make an example, and a dirty guard was perfect for this. I reached down and grabbed the man bleeding stump, making him scream as I cauterized it, making him pass out, but I shocked him back awake.

"Nah, you get to stay awake for this whole thing. You see, you're a guard, and I am the bad guy. My job is to put terror in people, but your job is to provide them protection from me. So, do you want to tell me how we got into this situation?" I asked calmly.

"Razor! Guards are incoming!" Coron called from above, and I gave him thumbs up, still staring back at the guard, who was still in pain, but a smile was creeping on his face, making me laugh coldly.

"You think that you are going to be saved with them coming?" I asked, and the trace of a smile vanished instantly as I let go of his stump, and my hand became a grinder like I had used to pulverize the platinum to dust.

"Let the guard go!" A man shouted at me, and I turned to see four guards in the mouth of the alley, but I did no such thing.

"Or what? You going to use some magic on me?" I asked as the grinders in my hand sped up. "The man I am holding was attempting to rape this woman."

"And we will deal with him appropriately; just let him go so we can heal him," The guard said, but I shook my head. My Nanobots were already in this man's bloodstream, and the moment he was healed, the Nanobot would cut the limb off from the inside out. This was true for any appendages I would be removing.

"You should have been the one to catch him," I said, and then grabbed the man's genitals with my grinder hand.
