After fifteen minutes, it was clear that I didn't have a way to scan Mana or Chaotic Energy, as my system called it. Whatever the stuff was, it was outside of what I could understand right now. I guess that learning the symbols for magic to get to 50 was going to have to be one of my priorities now if I wanted to learn more about it.
Once I was done with Kilna, I upgraded her computer and gave her a few more screens. She would need these to keep track of her drones, and I wanted everyone to have access to the map, meaning I did Kyla's computer after.
"All right. Since today is going to be a longer one, I want you all to take the rest of the day off until 9 PM, and then I want you all to meet me back here for a mission briefing. I have some errands to run, and I'm going to check on Coron," I said, and Rax looked up from his computer, but I put up a hand. "He is just pinned down right now because of a gang fight going on in the north in the Shadow Rats' territory. So far, he is fine, but this is a good chance for me to see one of these in action, and I can make sure I get the kid back. You just get your sister into bed, so she is rested for tonight. She is very important," I explained, and Rax nodded.
I turned and left the room, heading to Miles' office, where he was looking for more maps. Once I was there, I knocked on the door, and Miles asked me to come in, turning to me as I did with a worried look on his face.
"Yes? I still don't have all the maps found yet, but I will have them all by this evening," he said quickly, but I shook my head.
"Work till five, and then rest. I know that you have been up since about 6 and working since 7, so you need time to unwind," I said as I closed the door and walked into the room.
"Well, if you insist," Miles said, and I motioned for him to take a seat.
"I do. Now, I am sure this has been unsettling for you to have me around, but this isn't going to change. Since the others are worried about you working with me, I am going to give you my guard to use," I said, and on cue, my bug guard broke through the floor beside Miles, making him scream like a little girl. I might have taken it a bit far, but karma was a bitch.
"I have to have a b-b-bug guard, m-me?" Miles nearly shrieked as he jumped out of his chair and scurried back as the bug guard started to fix the floor.
"I will change it to a knight, but I thought you liked theatrics?" I asked with a big smile, and Miles' eyes went big for a second, and then he coughed.
"Hmm, well, I see you do have a sense of humor," Miles said as he picked himself off the floor.
I nodded as I walked over and put my hand on the bug's head, changing it to look more like a metal knight covered in armor, but it was still silver. I even tried to change the color, but I guess it was too big for that, unlike the wasps.
"We are going to have to work as a team, and I don't want you worrying about me, thinking that I am going to kill you. That only happens if you betray me, so don't do that; pretty simple concept, right?" I said, and Miles nodded. "Good. Feel free to have your boys paint it so it can follow you out in the open. I have programmed some basic responses, so you can tell it what to do, and it will reply to you in a human voice. This should keep people's suspicions down about it if they see you talking with it."
"Oh? That is a good idea since most people think of silver when they think of a Numerian," Miles said, and I nodded.
"Alright. There is a turf war going on in the north, and one of my men is pinned down, so I am going to see if I can learn something about it while getting Coron out," I said, and Miles gave me a shocked look.
"Do you think you should have done that first?!" He asked, but I shook my head.
"I have eyes on him, and he is more than safe right now, but he is stuck in a building that is surrounded. I have already killed two people that tried to get at him, and I and more bugs on route to deal with the entire thing when I get there," I said, and Miles gave me a shocked look.
"Don't you think that is a bit brazen?" He asked, but I turned to leave.
"I don't plan on being seen," I said as I left the room and headed for the back of the warehouse.
I made my way to one of the corners, snapping my fingers, and a section of the floor suddenly flickered and then became a flat metal floor section. Once I was in front of it, the square section rose up and then exploded on the sides and opened up. Inside was nothing special but a bunch of small metal arms hanging down, and I stepped in. Once inside, I let the door close around me, and then an intense red light scanned over my body.
"Prepare me for a covert mission to neutralize a turf war and rescue a pinned-down operative," I commanded, and the arms started to take me apart quickly and rebuild my body.
I had built this morning after coming out to test the drones before waking everyone because my body was too big, and making myself smaller just condensed my weight. If I wanted to be able to move around fast or even go up a flight of stairs without breaking them, I was going to have to lose some weight from time to time. That was the reason for this chamber. I could let it do the leg work of changing my body to suit my purpose, but it also would hide and keep the extra parts of my body.
