The squirrel had escaped far from the trunk as quickly as possible; its name was Dave. It ran towards its objective: The walnut tree.
At every step, it made sure there were no enemies nearby. Its silhouette could barely be seen jumping from bush to bush on its way to the target. For the moment, no one was around, which brought great relief.
But as soon as it reached the base of the great tree, it realized it had been completely plundered.
Refusing to believe it was true, it climbed the tree to inspect every branch. Going one after another, in search of its much-desired food.
Fortunately, there was still one left. In the hands of a usurper, also a squirrel like itself, who had arrived at the tree first.
Dave remained hidden behind some leaves on a branch, watching to make sure the other squirrel didn't escape, while slowly advancing to steal it by force.
But that squirrel noticed its presence to its misfortune, already preparing to jump to another branch to escape.
Dave wouldn't let it happen, running along the branch where it was, giving the other squirrel a scare, causing it to lose balance and fall to the ground. Dave managed to snatch the nut in time before it fell completely.
With the nut in its paws, Dave peeked out to see that squirrel. Seeing it fall from the tall tree, and being caught by the fangs of the large bear from before. Killing it and being devoured just seconds after it fell.
Dave went pale, trembling at having caused someone's death.
Seeing the bear staying below the tree, eating its recent prey, it tried to climb to the highest branch to escape from it and wait for it to leave to escape unharmed.
It climbed and climbed, being careful not to drop its nut.
And once it had reached the top, it began to observe from the heights around it. By the position of the sun, the squirrel estimated it was midday. A perfect time to enjoy the nut, which, in the name of the squirrel from before, it would eat happily.
About to start cracking it open to eat it, it observed someone walking at the forest entrance. A redhead girl, who seemed quite worried. It simply didn't pay attention, knowing she would be another victim of the bear sooner or later.
It feasted on that nut, leaving it satisfied for a while.
But it wasn't enough.
It would carefully descend the tree branches wanting to search for other food in other areas, but to its surprise, the bear was still there below the tree. It couldn't do anything if it stayed there.
It decided that perhaps waiting a little longer would be enough for the bear to leave. It perched on the highest branch and took a nap.
After a few hours like this, now feeling safer, it descended the branches again.
But.
The bear was still there.
Dave tugged at its ears, trying to understand why the bear wouldn't leave that spot. It approached a bit more, descending a few branches, to see what was happening.
Hoping it was dead, and to its misfortune, it was just asleep. The squirrel thought it would have to spend the whole night there. But someone appeared.
"Shinma...? Are you here?"
The redhead girl from before appeared; she was wearing a formal suit that few people wore, but still, she pushed aside the bushes without caring about getting that exclusive clothing dirty. Dave's eyes widened, watching as the girl made loud footsteps near the bear due to her apparent concern shown in her gaze.
Dave hid as quickly as possible upon seeing the bear rise upon seeing the girl. The girl, on the other hand, just looked at the bear, freezing in place.
The bear roared at her forcefully, facing off with the girl and preparing to hunt her.
Dave knew she would die in a few moments. It would take advantage of the bear being busy with her to escape.
But, to its surprise, the girl pulled out from her dark pants pocket a mysterious berry. And from the other pocket, a piece of metal.
The bear would move to attack its prey. But the girl threw both things at it first, landing in its snout.
Leaving a huge explosion where the bear was, blowing it into pieces.
