Gorgon was scratching at the store door as he saw Mrs. Rotenmeyer had gone out shopping. He insisted on accompanying her, but she was already gone.
"Gorgon, come here and help me. Melman and Doris are trying to steal our afternoon meal," exclaimed Tenma, who was trying to prevent his sister and his other brother from taking their food and Gorgon's. "Back off, shoo."
But both siblings surrounded Tenma to pounce on him, while Doris grabbed one of the bowls and ran off. Melman followed, kicking Tenma in the side, who laughed as he saw his siblings had achieved their goal.
Tenma turned to Gorgon, who was still looking at the door.
— Heyyy, they took your food —he shouted to his brother, who seemed to remain still in front of the door—. Hello.
He stood up somewhat curious to see that his brother was ignoring him, approaching him from behind.
Upon turning to look at him, he noticed that Gorgon was unconscious.
Tenma began to worry immediately about his brother, trying to call him several times by his name. He pulled on his tail and knocked him to the ground.
But he didn't respond.
— God... God... What should I do? What should I do? He... he's dead. Gorgon, no, Gorgon...
Tenma panicked, attracting the attention of his two siblings who had just finished eating from the pain of the stolen food.
They approached from behind Tenma, but he noticed in time and made them back off with a bark.
That made Doris step back, stumbling and falling onto a knife stuck in the floor. Stabbing herself in the back as she fell.
The dog's screams terrified everyone's mind, and they tried to help her. Tenma wondered in panic why there would be a knife on the floor, but as he tried to lift his sister, he saw Melman gasping for air out of fright.
Around him, his 3 siblings were in serious condition. He didn't know what to do. There was nothing he could do either.
"This is a nightmare!"
["This is a nightmare."]
For a moment, everything fell silent. His siblings froze. Also the people walking outside, including the cars.
Time had stopped.
Tenma looked terrified at what was happening, realizing the same angel falling out of nowhere standing on the ground.
["I'm keeping you alive with what little magic power I have left. But even for me, a high-class angel, I can't afford to spend everything I have on a wretched boy who pretends to live a life he doesn't have."]
"What...?"
The canine didn't know what the angel was talking about, backing away nervously.
["You were a human, remember? You died, and I threw myself to save you. Are you saying you haven't thought of me at any moment? Seriously?"]
Tenma stood still, seeing that he had been cornered against the wall. He looked at the angel, dumbfounded.
["I decided to merge with you at the last moment. It was the only way both of us would survive. But I didn't expect to get trapped deep in the mind of a boy who just wants a quiet life like a dog. Seriously, have you not thought that what you really need is to return to your former life? Think of me! I'm your savior."]
"My... savior?"
["Your mind is wearing out. You are currently unconscious, close to death. If you don't accept that this is not your life, then I won't be able to bring you back to life. Because otherwise, it will end up giving you a strong collapse again. So, listen to me, you must remember that you are not a dog. You are a boy trapped in a dog's body."]
The angel would have the canine cornered against the wall, while he had his ears down.
"I... a human. No... it's not true."
["Have you also forgotten your true identity? Have the deaths affected your brain so much? It's true that you have had, for the time being, a terrible life... but if you stay stuck here and now in this imaginary world, you'll end up sinking into your own chaos."]
"..."
Tenma didn't know what to answer.
To think he was a human, when clearly he saw himself as a dog. It had him confused.
("Shinma....")
But a memory came to his mind.
"Shinma... Who... who is Shinma?"
The angel raised her eyebrows, looking at the canine with a big smile.
["That's you. The you from the new world, the world where the real Mrs. Rotenmeyer is. Your mind is forgetting her, that's why she's not here. But, you, you want to see her again. Right?"]
"But she... she didn't give me that name"
Tenma opened his eyes, remembering the figure of a beautiful girl with red hair.
"Eva..."
["Eva? Do you want to see her?"]
"I don't know who she is... but there hasn't been a night when her voice doesn't appear in my dreams."
But, in the midst of his memories, one came at great speed.
("Shinma!!")
"She's calling me?! Eva? Where's Eva?"
The angel looked at the canine, sighing.
["It seems that you really feel bad for having left her aside... You're a very foolish boy, really. But, well, this will do."]
The angel extended her hand, looking at the canine.
["Give me your paw, let's go back to the real world. Where Eva is, Mrs. Rotenmeyer, and where I won't disintegrate along with your memories. Quickly."]
Tenma began to remember both people at once.
Making a new decision.
"Let's go back."
Shaking the angel's hand, Tenma decided to return.
Everything turned dark.
