Chapter 22 - Last Stand in the Forest

The forest was a catastrophe.

The trees around the bear's hiding spot had been reduced to ashes. And not far from there, a battle was still raging that would terrify anyone who got in the way.

Eva and the bear were still fighting.

After exploding the bear's body the day before, Eva continued on her way in search of her lost pet. She was very worried that some animal might have taken it, but she came to see its bones in the bear's cave.

Eva was stunned, knowing that her pet had been devoured by that beast.

Dave, who had followed the girl, surprised and grateful that she had killed the forest beast, watched as she cried for the recent loss. Of course, for him, something didn't quite add up. He sensed that the dog whose organs had spilled out when it went to the trunk was the same one the redhead girl was crying over.

Dave tried to approach her, but they both heard a loud roar.

The bear was regenerating at a great speed from its head, ending up flawless to the last hair, as if nothing had happened. It felt incredible, some wounds or scars from the past had disappeared and it even felt in better shape, as its hunger had gone.

Dave was horrified by such a scene, but instead, Eva was even more shocked.

The bear roared at them, seeking the pleasure of devouring them, hunting them down. Dave ran off instantly, but fortunately, the bear was mainly after the girl. She pulled out more berries with the same metal as before, throwing them at the bear.

It ended up exploding again.

And for a moment, things calmed down.

But the bear regenerated quickly again!

Eva was determined to kill it to avenge her pet. And she wouldn't rest until she ended the life of that murderer.

She knew that even if her dog could regenerate, it couldn't do so once it was devoured and dissolved in the acids of the bear's stomach.

So the only decision was clear. Revenge.

And so, hours passed.

And by noon the next day, these two were exhausted.

The bear had learned to dodge Eva's throws, and she couldn't move fast enough to dodge the bear's attacks. She was the one who would probably lose at this rate.

She hadn't slept all night, and hunger was killing her. But now she had that bear in front of her, who was also tired, but not as much as her. It was preparing to hunt her down and end the battle anyway. The joy of being able to regenerate filled it with confidence, it didn't know how it had obtained that ability, but it was grateful to probably be an immortal being.

Eva pulled out a knife from her pocket that she had carried with her. She still had a plan.

She only had one explosive berry left along with the metal that would trigger the explosion, but she had to use it with precision.

If she made the bear explode, she could bury its pieces in some deep pit or hole. If she buried it underground, even if it regenerated, it would suffocate and be done for good. But the problem was that the bear regenerated completely in less than 1 minute.

...

She had to trap the bastard.

The impact against the water was untimely, causing both the squirrel and the puppy to lose consciousness. The water would slowly take them deeper.

And after a while, Dave and Tenma were watched by a pair of huge glowing eyes under the spring where they fell from the waterfall.

Unable to do anything to change their fate, they ended up drowning.
