(In a building)
"We weren't able to attack the Pendragon princess today. An S-rank hero was guarding her from the shadows while Reina was right beside her. Seems like someone has leaked the information." A man with a scar on his face said to the person on the phone.
"Ok, move towards plan B," the person on the phone replied. After that, the man hung up the phone. Beneath his legs were two half-dead people.
The building in which they were, seemed completely abandoned. There were three more men with the man who had a scar on his face. From the looks of it, they were his subordinates and the two men beneath his legs were coughing blood uncontrollably.
Their bodies were shivering due to the loss of blood while their nails had been torn off.
"Boss Carter, they aren't telling anything useful," one of the three men said to the man with a scar.
"Kill them, they are not worth our time anymore. Plan B has started," Carter instructed his subordinate. The two half-dead on the ground were wearing Avalon staff's uniform.
One of them muttered, "Soon the principal and the other people in Avalon will find out that we are missing and then you'll be dead. I advise you to leave us and run for your life now."
As soon as Carter and his three subordinates heard this, they started laughing like maniacs who have lost their minds.
"Hahaha, Oh man, sorry to disappoint you but they'll never know because someone already has taken your place. You'll die here silently while someone else will live your life," Carter said while licking the blood off his knife.
As soon as the two half-dead men heard this, their bodies started shivering even harder. Their faces turned pale while they struggled to move.
Ropes were tied around their wrist and legs. One of the two men had one of his legs missing while the other had one of his eyes missing.
From the scene, one would easily be able to tell that they had been tortured for hours. Multiple torturing materials were laying on the ground covered in blood.
"How can someone take our place? Do you think the people of Avalon won't be able to identify a fake person? Very childish of you to think that." the same man protested.
"Why don't you see for yourself? James bring the remote." Carter said to one of his subordinates.
The shortest of the three men went to the table located at the end of the room and brought a remote which resembled a television remote. James gave the remote to Carter while an evil grin formed on his face.
He was looking forward to seeing what his boss was going to do. Carter switched on the television in front of them with the remote.
On the screen, two men identical to the half-dead men could be seen working in Avalon.
They both were chatting and talking with other employees while lifting some stuff in a brown box.
"Ho...how is this possible? Why isn't anyone questioning them? How did these two escape the eyes of S-rank heroes? No, my family, my daughter christine, no.....," the man who had questioned Carter started to ramble continuously as soon as he saw the screen.
He couldn't believe reality anymore. He was just a common worker in Avalon. A good wage, a loving family, good friends, he had everything but now he was on the verge of death.
What did he do to deserve this?
"Why? Why did you do this to me? What did I do to you guys? Why did you pick me out of all the workers?" The man continued to ramble while the other man was just staring into nothingness as if he had given up all hopes of living.
"To answer your question, it was just a coincidence," Carter replied with an amused look on his face. He was enjoying every bit of suffering that the man was going through.
"Boss, we are out of time. We need to meet Schaller in half an hour," James said to Carter while pointing at the clock.
"Ok, get the stuff out, I'll deal with these two and meet you three outside," hearing their boss' order, the three picked up the torturing materials and moved outside.
As soon as the three got out, Carter looked towards the two half-dead while taking his knife out. "Now, how should I kill you both?" He questioned.
Hearing this, one of the two men tried to run away but all he could do was drag his body. A look of fear was clearly visible on his face while the other man just looked at Carter waiting for his death.
Carter threw a knife towards the man who was trying to run away, the knife pierced the man's head and hit the wall. His head was split open and his tongue was lying on the ground. Blood started to flow out of his dead body like a fountain.
After killing the first man, Carter moved towards the second. "Seems like you are already dead from inside. A man without the will to live is worse than a dead person," he said and lifted the man up in the air with his bare hands.
"Even if I ask you to leave me, you won't. It would just make my death more painful. Death is inevitable, so embracing it is better than running away from it because at the end of the day even the strongest people can't escape. The only regret I have is the way I died." the man said in a regretful tone.
A small chuckle escaped Carter's mouth when he heard this. "Very well old man, may you rest in peace," he said, crushing the man's face into pieces and throwing his cold body away.
A badge fell from the dead body which said Jason on it. Paying no heed to the name, Carter lit up a cigar and left the place as if it was normal for him.
