Elena saw his demeanor change but didn't think too much of it. Afterall, he had always been hot and cold, interchanging constantly. Instead, she called one of the servants and requested for whiskey and vodka. It was brought to her not long after.
She only ate a bit of the food on the table before drinking the strong liquor given to her. She mixed the whiskey and vodka before pouring it down her throat. As the liquor flowed down her throat, she felt it burn. She drowned the liquor, galss after glass.
Soon she was so drunk, her face turned so red, it looked like it would overheat. When she had enough, she got up and tried walking to her room, staggering so much, she almost fell thrice. Finally, she got there, and open the door only to be met with a sight that burned her big eyes.
Roderick stood in the middle of the room, shirtless with only a pair of trousers wrapped around his long legs. His chest was wide and broad, his abs were well defined and prominent. Every muscle on his body flexed with every slight movement he made.
Elena stood at the door, dazed with a slightly open mouth. This man, he looked lean with clothes on but so muscular without anything on. This body was too good to not appreciate. Elena would have started to drool had Roderick not suddenly spoken.
"Like what you see?"
Roderick was surprised when Elena suddenly entered the room. When he left the dining room, he had tried to work but couldn't. He thought about the ring on Elena figers and felt that if he didn't want her wearing another man's ring, he had to buy her one himself. Thereafter the feeling of unease dissipated from his heart.
So he had been able to do a bit of work. Since he was on his honeymoon, he didn't work for too long before deciding to go and take a shower before going to bed. He had just finished his shower and was drying his hair with a towel when Elena walked in.
She had been admiring his body and he felt pride rise in his chest for some reason.
In her druken state, Elena didn't seem to hear Roderick's words. She walked over to him directly and kissed him. Roderick was stunned and didn't know how to react to her sudden kiss. He held her shoulders and pushed her gently.
"You...do you know what you are doing. When we start, I won't stop, even if you beg." Roderick said, his grey eyes narrowed into slits.
"Cameron..." Elena said in a tiny voice, almost inaudible but Roderick still heard her.
And he let her go as if he had been electrocuted. He stared at her dazed expression in disbelief and anger. He felt as if he had been stabbed right in the heart. His heart ached so much, he felt like he couldn't breathe.
She did not. She did not just mistake him for Cameron.
"Hubby." At that moment, he didn't know if she was calling him hubby or calling Cameron instead.
Instead of inquiring, he walked past her, intent on leaving before he lost his mind. However before he could walk through the door, Elena screamed his name.
"Roderick!"
He stopped in his tracks as the woman behind him spoke.
"Sleep with me."
He span around in astonishmet but met her eyes in the process. Her sapphire blue eyes which were filled to the brim with tears that looked like they would spill out at any moment made his heart stop. At that moment, nothing else seemed to matter. He realized that this woman had him hooked as the instinct to protect her surged violently in him.
Walking over to her, he heard her continue.
"Please, help me. I'm tired. I'm so tired." Her viced became softer towards the end. The tears in her eyes spilled out and she trembled voilently, shaking so hard Roderick was worried she would break. He got to her, wrapping his arms around her shaky frame. He hugged her, offering her his warmth and protection.
"Make me forget. Forget all the pain. The alcohol isn't doing it. Please, I can't take it anymore." Her voice choked continuously as she sobbed uncontrollably. Roderick didn't seem to mind her crying this time. Instead, he held her tighter everytime she choked on her tears.
He didn't do what she wanted though, he didn't want to take her when she was like this. Instead, he spoke to her softly to stop her from crying so hard.
"Ellie, baby. What made you feel so horrible, do you think you can tell me?"
"Everyone has left. Why did they all leave me here, alone. Even Cameron, who I lived and breathed for, left. Why is everyone leaving me. Will you leave me too? Ha, I know you will. I can't stand this world, I can't stand this life. I don't think I can do this anymore."
Roderick didn't say anything. He carried her and placed her on the bed. Elena didn't react much. Roderick walked to the center table at another side of the room. He poured water into a glass and took two pills from a container on the table.
He walked back to Elena and handed her the pills and the water. She also didn't question him and drank it silently. She had stopped crying and just silently did whatever Roderick wanted her to. They were sleeping pills and it didn't take long for her to feel drowsy.
Tucking her in, he left the room only taking his phone with him. He immediately called Cameron knowing that he would know things the he didn't. He walked into his study as Cameron answered the phone.
"Big bro, how come you are calling me all of a sudden." Cameron said in a cheerful tone.
"Cameron, I didn't call to chitchat. Elena...she broke down and cried saying she couldn't handle it anymore. Is something wrong that I don't know about?" Roderick said coldly.
"Wait, Elena had a breakown? Are with her right now?"
"No"
"What? You can't leave her when she had a breakdown. She might to something foolish."
"I gave her sleeping pills. She should be asleep now."
"Oh...well, Elena has severe depression. As long as she's feeling okay, she shows her emotions on her sleeve but when she feeling extremely sad, she acts very happy and childishly, trying not to show her suffering. However, when her pain becomes too much for her to bear, she will breakdown and might even become suicidal so she can't be left alone during that period. You have to take care of her, brother."
"Mm..." Roderick hummed a response before hanging up. He went back to the room to see Elena sleeping silently and peacefully. He climbed unto the bed and wrapped his arms around her. He then said.
"Why does the fact that you are suffering bring me so much pain?" Roderick whispered gently, his eyes filled pain.
He then slowly closed his eyes, not noticing that the bottle of sleeping pills that was supposed to be on the center table was nowhere to be found.
