Chereads / Legendary Shelter Survival Guide / Chapter 17 - Talk with Barney

Chapter 17 - Talk with Barney

There was not much talk on the way back to the shelter, everyone was thinking what a situation they had got in. Trying to survive by hunting, no technology, not even baths.

Mostly the women, with the habit of taking a bath two times a day. They had a hard time not taking even one for two days now.

"We should complete that spike engraving around the shelter when we arrive, I don't feel safe without it now." Lucas said to John while looking ahead.

"No problem, it's going to be easy now that we have these bizarre skills with us," John said with a chuckle which made Lucas smile a little.

All this time, he had thought that John and Ella and even his parents would have a hard time in having to understand what these skills were. But to his surprise, they were taking it pretty well.

The whole way back which only took 15 minutes of normal walking, John kept fiddling with his skill. It seemed he was pretty shaken from the bad hunt they just had.

The whole way back, Lucas was racking his brain for two things. Firstly, if he had overlooked taking something useful the first time.

And secondly, he observed John using his skill, it was very interesting how John just looked at a fallen leaf on the ground and made the winds around it move with his will. The leaf flew in the air for a while and Lucas could tell John was only trying to keep the leaf in the air. Just from his face, he could tell that it was a daunting task.

But Lucas was happy that John was trying to learn more about his skill, rather than Barney who had the most useful skill, telekinesis. The guy could move around objects on his will, it may have been a little weak but it was still a pretty good skill that Lucas wanted for himself.

They reached the shelter and everyone had a sense of security blooming in their hearts subconsciously. In all the dangerous shenanigans that were happening around, the shelter was the one thing that the guys had, to live a fairly secure life. Everyone in the group knew about Lucas's barrier skill that could protect them if something were to go wrong.

"Ella, please prepare the food for us... and Sarah, can you help her with it?"

"Sure, honey." Ella smiled warmly and went toward the camp that was now shifted inside the two-meter-long territory that Lucas had outside the shelter.

Sarah nodded and went with her too, she looked at Lucas for a second and went with Ella to the campsite.

"Lucas, when do you want to start?" John asked with his hand on Lucas's shoulder.

Lucas was going to tell everyone to just relax for ten minutes and then their routine would start but John had made it easy. If he were to tell them to work right after they got back, it would have looked bad on his image and it was the most important thing if he wanted to make people have a sense of respect toward him.

'It's not like I want to become some kind of a leader, I just want them to listen to the things I say and implement them as I tell them to.' Lucas reassured himself with satisfaction, all the things he needed sounded like he wanted to be the leader yet he was feigning ignorance so blatantly.

"We can start right away or later, whatever is okay. I am ready anytime." Lucas said with a smile.

"Good, then we are starting right away... Sean, Barney, get ready." John commanded his sons with a grin. He had seen through what Lucas was going for behind the words and it only made him more excited.

"Ugh... right now? But my legs hurt, Dad." Sean said with a dejected look, so did Barney yet he didn't speak anything.

"Stop acting like a child, look at Lucas. He is so responsible and he is younger than you both! Get ready!" John said with a little shout that was okay as it was not that loud. All this made Lucas have a sense of happiness, getting praised while seeing the other annoying guys get belittled was such a form of satisfaction.

John went toward the pile of logs that they collected. Lucas went past the two men in their 20s with a mild smile making a vein pop on their head.

"This guy is annoying..." Sean said and started moving again, leaving Barney with a grumpy face.

The construction had started, Lucas used the rock he refined into a sharp axe head and used it to make the small thin trees cut into two parts just as John demonstrated before.

Sean was giving His father a boost in strength while Barney was using an axe head his father made to make one side of the thin trunks sharp as a spear.

"Aren't you curious about your ability?" A voice came from the side, Barney looked up right at Lucas's eyes with a calm expression.

"That telekinesis? It's useless." Baney said and went back to work making Lucas look at him with a frown.

"Useless? making stuff fly around is useless? Gods, then my ability could be called trash heh." Lucas remarked which made Barney look at Lucas with wide eyes.

"What the hell, we are living in an unknown forest inside a house that is enough to accommodate us all... your ability is the best out of all of us."

"Hmm... if you say it like this, my ability sure looks delicious but can you tell me why you think yours is useless?"

Barney kept looking at Lucas for five seconds with a serious face until as high left the guy's mouth.

"... Look at this." Barney said and moved his hand forward, in his hand, the axe head that his father made was present.

In one moment, Lucas felt certain that he saw a bluish tint around the man's pupil. In the next instant, the head of the axe he held appeared to levitate a few inches above his grasp, causing Lucas to break into a wide smile, revealing all of his teeth.

He couldn't hold back the excitement after seeing something so cool happen in front of him.
