"Nia, I don't want an out. I can't…won't let you go in all by yourself." His gaze was intensely trained on me as he moved close to me, pushing me up against the tree.
I gulped as my eyes drifted towards his lips, he was close enough I could smell his aftershave. He sighed and moved away from me, frustrated about something, no doubt my choice.
"Elias, do you trust me?"
"Honestly?" he hesitated.
"That sounds like a no."
He smiled and licked his lips, fingers running through his hair.
"You're smiling so clearly that's a no." I put my hands on my hips. How hilarious must we look right now, a tiny thing staring up at this giant of a man.
"I trust you to go with whatever your gut tells you. You just have to trust me that I'll protect you wherever that leads us."
