I will never stand by again and watch bad things happen when I can help. That is the vow I live by.
I pulled my face away from Elias' chest and wiped my eyes. He soothingly ran his fingers through my hair. His ocean blue eyes captivated mine as he wiped my tears away.
"There's nothing you could have done, Nia. You had strength but didnt know how to use it. They had guns. You are not bullet-proof and you're not immortal. You were a kid, the most you could have done was get hurt or killed." His voice was filled with anguish as his rough fingers caressed my face.
I wanted to stay in his embrace forever but as nice as it was it couldn't take away these feelings of mine.
I lowered my gaze."If I had been killed then at least I'd be with her-"
My chin was tilted upwards, a fiery looking Elias glared at me. "Stop that. If you think throwing your life away was what your mother wanted then you're wrong. She wanted you to live."
"But-" I tried to start as the tears started flowing again.
