As soon as he looked into the monster's eyes, he felt a certain fear crept up his spine that he never experienced before. For the first time in his life, he felt like he was facing something he wouldn't be able to defeat.
He was standing just a step inside the cave firmly facing the giant monster. It's red eyes were glowing brightly in the dark cave but for some reason, it didn't make any move to attack. He kept staring at it's eyes thinking whether his sunglass theory was enough to disable it's pesky mind magic.
His ears and eyes were covered so at that moment, he felt like there were only two things in the world. He could hear both his heart beat and his rapid breathing while he was in a staring contest with the beast.
With his weapons ready he moved his head and was surprised that he was not stricken by fear at this time. He took few more steps while carefully observing the Alpha wolf, other than a low growl it really didn't move much.
" Was it injured? But it feels more like it's protecting something." Noah thought standing few feets away from the beast. He felt like if he did try to get any closer, it would slice him in half in seconds.
He did want to fire the rocket and see if it was effective against it or not but, he knew the cave would just collapse burying both him and the beast with them. Thinking about his next move, he thought it was best to take few step back and taunt the beast to get it out in the open, the mouth of the cave was large but seem to narrow with each step.
The wolf which was easily five meter tall while standing seemed to be the limit. He let go of the rocket and pulled out his rifle, there were some remaining high velocity bullet that he could use to annoy the monster.
He looked back for a second and relaxed when he saw everyone was standing at the same place. Them following him was always a issue, he was especially worried about the kids. If his plan fails, he would radio in the situation telling them to run away. He only wished that he could at least injure it to the point that old man would be able to take it down.
Taking few deep breaths he prepared himself and aimed the sights at it's eyes. He didn't know if it would hurt the monster but it was better than aiming at it's thick fur.
*Bang* The first shot landed right on the mark which lead the wolf to let out a screeching scream. Noah didn't care and kept firing while walking backwards. The wolf might have underestimated him for the first time but every other successive shot was blocked by it's fur while few times, it moved with such speed which made it seem like it was aware of the bullet trajectory.
By the time, he emptied the magazine, he was already standing outside the cave but the loud growl mixed with other strange sounds were a signal that he managed to piss off the predator enough for it to take him as a threat.
He was just about to switch to the rocket launcher but right at that moment, he ducked and rolled to the side avoiding a sharp gust of wind. He didn't know how but he kept rolling around in the dirt swinging left and right like he was fighting some invisible enemy.
Other that were watching started to get worried about him seeing him dance like a madman. Bijan even grumbled and cursed thinking that he had succumbed to the mind magic. Just when he was about to say about rescuing Noah, everything changed.
The trees and bushed behind, Noah exploded into million pieces. The power behind the attack was devastating enough that even they who were standing half a mile away could hear the sound.
" What the hell happened?" Cyra exclaimed.
" This...this is bad. It has possess two different magic. I have seen normal Canis use similar attacks before but they weren't this powerful." Bijan said with a grim expression.
They couldn't see Noah's figure because the wind picked up thousands of leaves creating a wall between them and Noah. None of them knew what to do next, the kids looked horrified thinking their leader died while Cyra and Bijan were debating whether to risk their life after seeing what the monster did without even showing itself!
Meanwhile, Noah's body had several cuts and bruises but nothing severe. He somehow managed to dodge every wind slash and only got injured because he rolled around in the dirt. Maybe it was his battle sense but he could tell without even seeing where the attacks were coming from but he didn't have time to celebrate his small victory.
Alpha Canis strolled out of the cave, baring it's fangs looking like the hounds of hell. One of it's eyes was severely damaged probably due to the first bullet but it only seemed to anger the beast more. Noah could see the fury in it's eyes as it dig it's back claws in the ground seemingly to prepare for a charge.
It might be a evolved version of mutated wolves and have unique magic but deep inside it was still a wolf who only knew how to charge. Since the magic was ineffective against the pesky little rat, it would end Noah's life with one full sweep of it's claws.
Noah knew he wouldn't be able to block even one of it's attacks, it's claws were like cold steel shining under the bright sunlight. He knew what he had to do but could he avoid it's charge? With such a height, it had a large reach while opening both it's legs like a hawk targeting it's prey.
His mind raced as he did something that the beast wouldn't expect. Instead of retreating or jumping to the side, Noah ran toward the beast while steadying, the rocket launcher! He might get sliced in half but with so little distance between them, he knew that even with it's speed it wouldn't be able to avoid the rocket!
