The alarm chimed incessantly, compelling June to leave the cosy comfort of Subh's snuggle.
"Hey there, good morning!" She hushed softly as he opened one eye and smiled at her.
"Wow!" He murmured.
"I can't imagine someone looking this great early in the morning." He pulled her into a loose embrace and wrapped his arms around her once again.
"No office today?" He hushed in her neck.
"No office today!" She smiled.
"You know, I don't remember the last time I had taken a leave."
She rolled back on the bed and let out a sharp sigh.
"I regret a lot of things Subh... I couldn't see my Grammy for one last time as I was attending a conference in the USA." She paused.
"I couldn't attend my only cousin brother's wedding as I was busy with a presentation... And the list goes on!" She sighed deeply trying to force a smile.
"I don't like to live with regrets June. I saw you, I liked you, and hence I'm with you! Who knows what happens tomorrow, who knows where I get to see another sunrise or not... I don't wanna die with regrets!" He smiled back at her and she covered his mouth with her palm.
"Don't talk about death..! Please."
"Someone is behaving like a wife." He chuckled mischievously.
"I don't know how wives behave. My parents are separated before I could even spell family!"
Her smartphone chimed again as she reluctantly peered at the screen and groaned softly.
"It says 'DAD'... Won't you receive?" Subh asked her politely.
"Of course it's Dad! The only day in the year he remembers me." She chuckled and received the phone.
"Hello,
-Yes, Dad
-Yes.
-Thanks.
-No that's fine...
-No seriously.
-Yeah
-Yeah, I'm good.
-Bye."
She hung up the phone and buried her face in the pillow.
Subh ran his fingers through her hair gently as the phone chimed again.
"Your MOM is calling June."
June didn't react. Instead she received the call plainly and responded to the words spoken to her.
"Hi,
Thanks
Yea great.
No, please
Yup
It's just a birthday Mom
No please don't
Bye."
She hung up the phone again as Subh held her arm and pulled her towards him.
"Hey... Is it your birthday today?" He asked her curiously.
June shrugged.
"I never celebrate my birthday Subh... It's just a dumb day when I parents compete to show who cares for me more!"
Subh ruffled her hair.
"Don't be to grumpy birthday girl... Let me plan the day for you... I mean us!" He smiled.
