Chapter 32 - Professor Flitwick

After the break the friends went to their next class; charms with Professor Flitwick.

Julius had always admired Professor Flitwick a bit; he had been able to reach a respected position in the magic world despite being a halfblood, and not in the wizard-muggle sense.

And he had reached that point by not only studying hard, but especially his practical skills did not leave anything to be desired; he had been a duelling champion before coming to Hogwarts after all.

But it wasn't as if he had only gotten his position due to his impressive skills with a wand, well admittedly that was indeed the reason why he was allowed to teach there despite being a halfblood, but to Dumbledore and to his students something else was much more important:

While Snape was a master in his field but hated children enough to make his students' life a living hell just because, Flitwick was not only a great teacher, but also almost as neutral as Professor McGonagall and much less strict.

Besides some stuck up pureblood brats there was most likely not a single former student of his who would say he didn't enjoy Flitwicks lessons more than most others'.

When Julius walked into the charms room Professor Flittwick was already there, standing on his famous stack of books behind his desk and smiling towards his new students while waiting for all to arrive.

This lesson was apparently again with the Gryffindors as the Weasley twins could already be seen whispering together with Lee Jordan, and no doubt concocting some kind of devious plan.

Ignoring the twins but reminding himself to talk to them after the lesson, Julius led his friends to seats as far away from them as possible.

After all, he didn't want to be implicated in their unavoidable pranks.

After sitting down and while still waiting for the other students, Julius curiously checked the magic stat of an adult wizard for the first time:

[MP 73]

Julius was barely able to not show his shock too strongly while he was still looking at the former duelling champion.

Pretending to search for something in his suitcase, Julius dove under the desk before allowing himself to show his shock; he had expected strong magic power but definitely not this strong.

After all, he was already almost halfway to the threshold of 100 and, from Julius' understanding, this was one which was very important.

'I should probably wait until I've seen a few more "specimens" before I try to fully understand what a specific stat truly means.

After all, I only have the information from the R.O.B. for now, and who knows how messed up his impression of the power ranking in this world is.'

A few minutes later, Julius had himself under control again and, since by now all the students had arrived, Professor Flitwick started his lesson.

While Julius definitely liked the Professor's methods, these kinds of charms were still far too easy for someone like him or even his friends, who, in Lia's case, after at most two tries, also appeared to have no problems with casting them without fail even multiple times.

But after the lesson, right when Julius prepared to talk to the Weasley twins, something happened he did not expect at all.

"Mr. Abraxus and Messrs. Weasley, please stay here for a moment. I want to talk to the three of you before you go to your next class. Now Mr. Abraxus, let us talk here while you two", Professor Flitwick gazed in the direction of the twins before gesturing towards the other end of the room,"you two wait over there, and I don't want to see even the tiniest bit of your wand Mr. Weasley, or your detention will last much longer than it already does."

After Julius had joined the Charms Professor behind the teacher's desk and the other students, including his friends, who sent worried looks over to him, left the room, he was faced with a question he did not expect, even though he should have definitely anticipated it, considering the subject the former duelling champion was teaching:

"Mr. Abraxus, I couldn't help but notice how your eyepatch seems to be enchanted to be transparent when worn. Can I assume your left eye is still fully functional then? Because in this case, I couldn't help but wonder why you are wearing it at all. Of course you don't have to answer my admittedly quite personal question, I know very well what might be the consequences if I decided to use my authority as a teacher this way, and on the heir of the Theia Corporation and the Abraxus family no less."

Despite how unsurprising this kind of question should be in this kind of situation, Julius was still surprised for one simple reason; he had completely forgotten that he was wearing the eyepatch as it didn't hinder his sight in any way and most others had, probably out of consideration for him, not talked about it with him.

After all, even Professor Flitwick had only asked him about it due to the peculiarity of one of the enchantments on it, which he had obviously been able to notice.

'Should I just show him? After all, it isn't that big of a secret and it would certainly help with our relationship if I asked him to keep it a secret. Even though I should definitely show it to Lia and Habol afterwards or they might be a bit disappointed when they find out I trusted a Professor more than my friends.'

Acting as if he was still reluctant to tell someone about it, Julius seemingly hesitated a moment before answering with another question:

"If you want to know, I can certainly tell you, Professor, but could I ask you not to talk about this to anyone else? I would like it to stay a secret if it is possible, at least for now."

Flitwick immediately nodded, now apparently even more curious about this matter:

"You can absolutely trust me with this Mr. Abraxus, I know we don't really know each other, but I am still your teacher and I will do my best to make your stay at this wonderful institution as pleasant as possible to you. Oh, and before I forget",Flitwick pulled out his wand and flicked it towards the Weasley twins, creating a translucent screen between them, "this should keep those two pranksters from seeing or hearing any of it."

The spell Julius had just witnessed was one he had also already learned. It was an easy but still very efficient privacy ward.

After that, Julius took off his eyepatch and turned his face towards the small Charms Professor to allow him to see the peculiarity of Julius' left eye.

"Just to make this clear, sir, I did not fall under a curse of any kind, this is much more something unique to very few members of the Abraxus family and has almost no effects. But despite this it would still seem quite strange for a person to have and, considering I am also a parselmouth, it would probably be best if not too many people knew about it."

At the last moment, Julius had also decided to tell one more half-truth to his Professor to guide his thoughts in a particular direction, and judging from the understanding look he got, his plan definitely worked out exactly how he hoped it would.

After a few moments of Professor Flitwick assuring Julius he would not talk about his secrets with anyone else, he cancelled the privacy ward and left Julius after assuring him once more and thanking him for his trust before finally going to the impatient twins.

All the while, Julius decided to wait for them in front of the door.

Sorry that it took so long without having much development; I'm feeling a bit sick since my tour and while I originally planned to also go over the mc's conversation with the Weasley twins in this chapter I didn't want to make you wait even longer.

Thank you for reading!
