Chapter 5 - High on Adrenaline

He scoffed coldly on hearing her words.

There was hardly anyone who could cross the border and remain alive….

The man did not believe that it was a mare coincidence.

Just then, A text came in and Almost immediately, the man who had just picked up his phone knotted his brows when he saw the Text from an unknown number.

For a long while, he stared at her. For some reason, the ancient glaciers in his eyes seemed to have been washed away by an oddly Calm blankness.

Heaven froze, and her heart skipped two beats.

"You…" He mumbled under his breath, the look in his eyes was not as deadly as before

The man then turned and spoke to the mask man who had kept silent all this while

"Take her home"

And then he diverted his gaze and focused his attention on her.

"Go home, back to where you belong" And just like that he got up to leave

Heaven exhaled as she watched him moving away. She should have been running away now that he finally let her go unscathed, but instead she just stood there unmoving, as her gaze watched his graceful back view retreating

Closing her fists tightly that her knuckles suddenly turned pale, she called out to him.

"Wait"

Her voice echoed in the sitting room, and the man looked over at her

"what?"

He answered without sparing her two glances, He was already doing her a massive favor by letting her go Scott free; what else did she want from him?

The fearless girl began walking towards him.

She was suddenly high on adrenaline. Heaven felt brave, Not only that, she had stopped trembling, her eyes were now replaced with something else.

Determination.

"Why are you letting me go all of a sudden?" Heaven asked as she stood less than a meter away from the man.

The man finally turned around to look at her, his squinted eyes assessed her with shock and then interest.

"From what I understand, you are willing to let me go just like that, unscathed, why is that so?" She asked again.

Silence reigned between them for a moment.

The man stared at her through his narrow eyes, he seemed astonished.

"Kid, don't be so daring. it's best that you run back home before I change my mind, "

His thin lips had curved upward into an evil smile, his tone still unbelieving.

"I'm twenty-two years of age and not a kid!" Heaven subconsciously spat out

She was no longer a child anymore, and so she was very annoyed when this person referred to her as a 'Kid'

The man himself didn't seemed too older than her.

What she got in response was a low chuckle.

The man looked like the devil when he laughed. His laughter didn't reach his eyes, but somehow he seemed amused. His expression was just too tricky to read.

"Go Home" And just as he was about to turn back, heaven spoke up again

"I don't have a home. I'm homeless" heaven lied straight-away

"So?"

The man's tone was cold, his eyes were blank, and his lips were curved in an alluring manner

"Tell me, what at you trying to say?"

"I am homeless, and I don't have a home, in that case I would like to propose an agreement"

She understood those scoundrels would stop at nothing to bring her down; and given that they were well-informed about her, she might as well lay low for now.

Yes, her actions seemed a little shameless, but what could she do at this moment?

The man laughed.

An agreement?

"What is your name?" The man asked, as he made his way back to the sofa. His interest in her words exceeded his imagination.

He was curious as to what she had in That small head of hers

Her appearance did not attract him one bit nether did her body shape. There was actually nothing special about her.

She was simply the definition of 'Not his Type'

Average looks.

Average body.

"Heaven Moore"

Just the man's smile froze on his lips.

What a strange name…

"Heaven…" He mumbled continually as if he were trying to test how the name sounded on his lips Heaven who was already very impatient frowned. She didn't want to waste any more time, this matter concerned her live.

"Since I am homeless I'm sure Sir, that you would be munificent enough to grant this poor girl a job to occupy temporarily before I can stand up on my feet; I mean, if you can provide a shelter for me, I would not hesitate to be a devoted employee towards you Sir" Heaven stated seriously, as if she was in a job interview.

She was indirectly asking him to shelter her and in return, she would work under him.

She was aware of the countless troubles waiting for her out there. If she was to go back home, then those hoodlums wouldn't hesitate to capture her.

Of course, she was making a rash decision, and she clearly knew that.

"Do you know who I am?" The man asked tauntingly

"N- typically we just met a couple of hours ago, so I don't really know you sir, but I'm convinced that you possess a good heart" heaven shamelessly lied through gritted teeth.

"And yet, you are blindly offering yourself to me…a total stranger" he grinned as he stared at her from head to toe for the second time.

"And what makes you think that you are qualified enough to be my subordinate, kid?"

Heaven was flabbergasted at his venomous words. The expression on his face was calm and unbothered, as if he was just stating facts.

Heaven then began to seriously question herself.
