Chapter 6 - Good bye, dove

Right. What qualifications did she have?

Apart from having a degree in music, she didn't have any other qualifications.

Heaven bit hard on her bottom lip, desperately trying to hide her frustration.

No. It she was not going to give up, She had to find a solution

Could she blame him?

His reaction was valid. If a stranger, whom she didn't know of, were to come to her, asking for refuge, what would she do?

She sighed and grasped her hair in frustration, "Stupid Heaven. You're so stupid…" She muttered to herself. What was she going to do now? Where would she go to?

Going to the orphanage was out of the question. She didn't want to endanger the lives of those innocent kids.

"Well, I―"

As she intended to make up some excuse, The man chuckled, his deep mellow voice reverberated in her ears. Now he stood less than a meter away from her, and compared to his towering frame, Heaven seemed rather short.

All this while The man had been closely observing her expression with squinted eyes.

A hint of dark amusement glinted in his eyes, and his thin lips curled upwards into a smirk. Heaven didn't understand why that smirk seemed so empty, yet bewitching to the frail heart, and before he could blink again, it was gone. Replaced by that apathetic face of his.

"Come closer." The man commanded, his long, slender finger beckoning at her.

Heaven could only do as she was told. She moved closer to him, and once she did, his intoxicating scent invaded her senses; a mix of moist earth and cedar.

The man's hand fell on a strand of her hair, his lips curved into a faint smirk as he spoke softly, "Good bye, dove."

His words were followed by an indescribable discomfort that made Heaven stiffen. She watched, wide-eyed, as his fingers slowly let go of her hair, brushing her nape in the process. She gasped when she felt a piercing pain in her muscles.

"W-What did you do to me?" Heaven asked, a painful groan escaping her lips as she watched him slowly move away from her.

Her body writhed in pain, and yet, he stood, emotionlessly staring at her. His thin lips moved as he slowly said, "Go back to where you belong, dove. This place isn't for people like you."

Her eyelids suddenly felt heavy and her vision became blurry. What was happening to her?

She groaned and tried massaging her head to relieve the pain, but it proved effortless.

Why was this happening to her? Why did she feel so lightheaded?

Her eyelids suddenly felt heavy, and beads of sweat began to trickle down her flushed face as her hands subconsciously trembled in fright. For a moment, Heaven felt scared.

She couldn't feel her limbs, almost like she was floating. But then, a burning sensation consumed every fibre of her being. Every muscle of her body seemed twisted and contorted with the unbearable pain that shot through her body.

A feeble sob escaped her lips as she slowly shut her eyes. Her body spasmed as she helplessly trembled. In that moment, countless thoughts ran through her mind.

Why did she have to struggle ever so often in her life?

How did this happen to her? When would she know peace?

Could it be that that man had a hand in this?

But why? Had she offended him? Or perhaps, was this the effect that the doctor had spoken about?

So many questions that remained unanswered. It frustrated her beyond words. But one question remained steadfast.

Was she… really going to die?

With that thought, a bitter yet exhausted smile graced her lips as she laughed at her inevitable fate. Heaven Moore, age 22, died a grievous death, with no awareness to her whereabouts.

How pitiful. She could already imagine the look of delight on her so called family's faces upon hearing the news.

She was named Heaven, yet her life was rather hell. Like a punishment she was condemned to.

And her death, which she once thought would be the first time she witnessed peace, became her ruin.

Yes she was scared, scared of death.

A tear trickled down her cheek as the world turned dark.

Letting her know that it was indeed the end for her. And she let the darkness embrace her, knowing that the light would never accept her.

At least, not in this lifetime

"Dispose of it." Were the last words she heard before black dots invaded her vision.

Lost in an unbearable gulf of darkness, Heaven struggled as the wall between life and death thinned before her very own eyes.

....

With streneous effort in opening her pair of sore eyes, it was accompanied by a blinding ray of light and the quotidan chirps of birds.

Heaven groaned as her senses became more sharp. The first thing she saw when she opened her eyes was the sky, which was a blend of pink and orange.

She immediately sat up as heart thumped rapidly in her chest. After scanning and observing her surrounding she noted that she was in an alley.

It was uncertain to her why she felt an ominous feeling surge deep within her.

Heaven could recall that she had been chased by those hoodlums but then mistakenly fell into a hole. Then what...?

She was totally puzzled.

Heaven did not have any other memory of what occured next. However, the lost memories were the least of her problems; where were those rascals?

Her wandering gaze fell on the red bruises that had marred her fair skin.

Heaven checked her whole body for any signs of discomfort and pain, and when she didn't feel much pain, she let out a sigh of relief. She was grateful that despite her unconscious state, those rascals had failed to capture her.

Digging into her pocket, Heaven fished out her phone.

She recalled that she had once tried but then, the battery had been too low to turn on the flashlight.

When she saw that the battery still remained 5%, she heaved a sigh of relief and quickly dailed a number.

She nervously bit her lips as the phone dialed, praying earnestly for the person to pick up her calls.

"Hey! why have you been ignoring my calls?" A feminine voice, laced with anxiousness, sounded from the other side of the phone.

Heaven sighed in relief. Her brows furrowed as she replied nervously, "Quit yelling, Kelly. I… I think I'm lost"

"You are what?!" Kelly's pitch had increased drastically.
