Chapter 22 - Chitchat

In the expansive garden built inside the mansion, two tea cups are set on top of a beautifully arranged table. Sitting on chairs near that table, two women are chatting to each other while taking a sip of tea.

One woman has golden brown hair and bright green eyes; she is in her thirties, but her age has no effect on her beauty, and the other lady sitting in front of her is just the opposite of her. Her body is overweight, and her face cannot look attractive in any mirror.

The first woman is none other than Eren's mother and baroness of Mellark, who is currently busy planning how to cause trouble for other people like some boring daily soap villain. And the other who is busy trying to shove a dessert that looks like an apple pie into her mouth with her tea is the Viscountess of Falmouth's household, Teldra Vic Falmouth.

"How much conviction do you have that this thing will complete its work and Baron will not even be able to know about it?"

Biting her nails with her teeth, Marta asks this question in a tone as if she is deliberately pouring extra honey into it. If Eren sees his mother currently, he probably will not be able to accept that she is really his mother, because the woman who torments him just to vent her anger out is talking to that fat woman in a sweet voice he has never heard.

On this question asked by Marta, a hungry smile appeared on Teldra's chubby face, the sight of which would make any mentally stable person run away several kilometers from this place.

"So now you don't trust me; don't you remember how I helped you make the baron fall for your charm?"

After saying all this, she took out a small vial of colorless liquid from inside the space ring she was wearing on her index finger and placed it in front of Marta on the table.

"I didn't mean that, I just..."

hehe

"Don't sweat too much about it; you'll always be my wild, sweet cat. Look at this; it is the poison I was speaking to you about."

taking a deep breath Marta held the vial in her hand and started staring at it, maybe trying to comprehend something about it, as if she had enough mind to understand it, which she doesn't, whereas Teldra is still speaking about something.

"Don't be afraid about its workability. I've already tried it out on Viscount, and even in the end he wasn't quite able to figure out how he died, even after being a magic class first awakener."

The moment she heard this sentence, she lost control of her hands and nearly dropped the vial she was holding. It is not hidden from anyone that the person who killed Viscount Falmouth is none other than his own wife.

Everyone knows the story of how the Duke, through his high status, forced a young and talented Viscount to marry his ugly daughter, whom no one wanted to marry.

However, it is not quite true that no one wanted to associate their names with that girl because she is ugly; in reality, the reason for this is her personality.

A woman who looks at every other man with eyes full of lust and a viscount who is a strong follower of rules--their pair was never meant to last long.

In the end, that man dies due to some mysterious reasons, or everyone just believes that the reasons were unknown. A fitting end for the man who thinks that people can be changed with love.

And that woman, with the help of her father, becomes the sole owner of his family.

Marta also knows this story like everyone else, and like all of them, she does not want to connect it with reality. At the same time, she also doesn't think that Teldra does anything wrong because she is also ready to take the life of her husband for power.

The stories of both of them are very similar to each other, or it can be said that Teldra's spot is the place that Marta wants to reach.

"What will we do with Baron's daughter, I think that Baron is planning on selecting her as the lord of Baroni. And she ain't never going to see me just become the head of the family that easily; she's definitely not going to sit around after Baron's death."

To clear some of her doubts and also to change the topic of discussion, Marta asked.

"Oh! You don't need to worry about it. Baron Aron may be richer than other barons, but in the end, he is just a baron, and the same applies to his daughter. Her identity is not so important that someone will come to help her. And when the time comes, we will send her to her father as well."

She said all this while swallowing a big banana cake in her mouth.

"If you think it's right to ignore her now, then I have no longer any problems in this matter."

Once more, eating a coconut cake whole in one go, Teldra opens her mouth and says.

"And as we decided, you're going to give me your son as a slave for the rest of his life. Anyway did you find anything out about why your husband suddenly went to the capital for such a long time?"

"I am sorry, Lady Teldra; even after exerting all my resources on finding out why Beren has suddenly made up his mind about going to the capital, I still fail to uncover the reason."

Marta said with a troubled face. But in an instant, her face changed as if she had discovered something new, and Marta put forth what had just come into her mind in front of the Teldra.

"Lady Teldra, are you aware of the power struggle happening in the Royal family?"

Hearing this, Teldra raised her thick eyebrows.

"Are you talking about the rumors about the death of the king's concubine and the disappearance of the princesses on the same night?"

At the question, Marta just nodded her head. Telstra's eyes stopped for a while on Marta, and then she said.

"I don't think he went there for this reason. Come on, it's already too late to eat dinner, and now I am feeling hungry, so we talked about it later."
