Chapter 23 - first kill

Somewhere inside a dense forest that extends far and vast in all four directions, a three-meter-wide beast with thick skin is roaming around in it with no fear of anyone in his eye. There is no fur on the body of the creature; instead, there are only round dots of red colour spreading randomly on its body. Starting from his neck bone, there is a line of straight, forked spikes that run down his entire spine to his tail.

At this time, this animal is inspecting this area away from its pack for the possibility of getting some high-quality prey.

Being an animal of this world, this beast already has some mana in him, but it is insufficient to awaken him. Unaware of what is happening to him inside, he interprets it as hunger and seeks to find a method to awaken by devouring another animal.

The yellow eyes of the beast, which are shining in the darkness of this night, are inspecting every moment of all the phenomena happening in the area around him when his attention is drawn towards someone's footstep sound coming from his right side.

That beast looks in the direction from which the sound is coming and predicts that this noise is probably from a human's feet. The beast has seen humans before; they are strange creatures who don't build any permanent residences here yet still come to roam around this woodland every day.

The beast hated them the most because they hunted all his brothers that came into their vicinity as if the concept of predator and prey didn't apply to them.

He has hated their guts ever since he was born and wants to at least make one of these creatures understand who is the prey and who is the predator.

The beast tightened all its muscles and twisted its mouth, full of sharp teeth and profusely drooling saliva, towards the oncoming enemy.

In front of his eyes, a lean, two-legged creature was standing, carrying a huge bag on its back. He looks just like those strange weapon-wielding creatures, but in comparison, this varmint has a short stature. which is a good thing for the beast.

Leaving aside the creature's short stature, there is only one thing that distinguishes him from other varmints just like him, and that is his face. Until now, the faces of all the humans that the animal had encountered used to tell him something. Some used to express their dread to him, others their astonishment, and some creatures' faces even used to show him their self-confidence.

But this person has no emotion on his face, it's like for him it doesn't matter what's going on in front of him. He doesn't care at all that he's going to fight to the death with this beast. Neither the final result of this fight nor the fear of his possible death has put pressure on him. The Beast bends his four legs, and after building up some force, he launches towards the person in black cloth.

Seeing how the monster's beast ran towards him to swallow him all, the guy immediately threw away his bag and pulled out his sword. Standing in his place, he turns his heels and leaps backwards on his right side.

The giant beast landed on the spot where that human was standing seconds before, but he only found a vacant spot, surprised at not catching his prey in one go. He looked to his right and only saw a shining sword fall on his neck, separating his neck from his body.

The blood came out of the beast's body with high pressure and spread out on the ground. A few moments after his death, the place where the dead body of the beast was lying turned into a small pond filled with a red liquid.

••••

Taking a deep breath, I kept my eyes on the first kill of my life in this world. At the same time, to clean the blood from my sword, I swung it with a jerk. Putting the sword back into its sheath, I let out some words from my mouth unknowingly.

"F*** why my luck is so bad."

For more than three hours I roamed around this forest trying to find the ruins, and all this time I didn't encounter even a rabbit. When I thought of finding a place to relax and plan out my strategy and let my guard down, I found this beast, who looks like some hybrid version of a giant hyena.

Frustration starts to bubble up in my body, but before I can react to this, I hear Gnosis's voice.

< affirmative: the master has killed a living being in this world; in order to obtain the essence of the beast, the master had to touch its dead body with his hand for some time. >

Switching off buttons in my mind, I stop all the thoughts running violently in my subconscious mind.

And with full concentration, I put my hand on the dead body of the beast called Lakadabagghe in the beast encyclopaedia of this world.

After staying in the same position for about a minute or two, a black mist started coming out of my hands and covering the entire body of that lakadabagghe.

With the passage of time, the black mist emanating from my hands in front of me has become more and more thick, and with this, I can also feel the amount of mana in my body decreasing.

After about fifteen minutes, according to the time of my home world, that black mist dispersed, and Gnosis made his announcement in my head.

< With the combined use of the master's abilities. the devouring spirits of gula and soulless with the Spirit of Gnosis, the master has consumed all the essence of the Beast.>

Fuha

Finally, it was completed. I stood up, stretched my body, and focused on myself to hear what achievement I got for killing an innocent monster.

< Master has received the soul essence of a half-awakened Lakadabagghe.

Master has acquired a lower species bloodline fragment of Lakadabagghe.

Master has obtained first-tier lower-grade bloodline ability name night vision from Lakadabagghe.

ability night vision - host can see into the dark with it. >
