Nana did her best to let out her warmest and kindest smile lest she unknowingly offended someone she shouldn't have. This aunty, even though she looked like an overly excited woman and someone from human trafficking agent, also looked like she came from a good background. Not because of the fact that the woman wore clothes from high end apparel, but it was because of the way she carried herself even when she talked excitedly. Her attitude was carved to her bone. It was impossible to act on it in the midst of courting a girl.
However, for such a high status woman to abandon her dignity and to risk her popularity only to ask an unknown young woman like her to marry her son, there must be some serious reason behind it.
After erasing the possibility that this woman was a human trafficking agent, Nana found herself in considering the real reason behind this abrupt action.
Why would Aunt Melissa do that?
"Mom? Why are you here? I've been looking for you." A gentle voice laced with a hint of anxiety and relief was heard along with a pair of long legs approaching her table.
Nana failed to hold herself back not to look up to see the owner of such handsome looking pair of legs. She noticed the way the body was a perfect reversed triangle with strong looking hips and waist and broad shoulders. His muscles were slightly visible through her white shirt but daaamn, those veiny arms and manly fingers were to die for!
Nana cleared her throat slightly before her eyes met a pair of beautiful light brown eyes. Those assessment only happened in less than 5 seconds and her expression didn't even change at all. If the man or Melissa paid attention to her, they might notice the flicker in her eyes but it only lasted for a split second. If anything, they might think that they had seen wrongly.
Now, after seeing the face of the owner, Nana changed her judgement again.
She might know why Melissa sounded desperate.
This kind of man was an example of a walking Greek God with ridiculously sexy body. He attracted both sexes, man or woman, and it frightened Nana to think that this man might not be straight, which explained why Melissa wanted to find a girl for him.
Unfortunately, this man noticed the change in her eyes this time. A frown of displeasure appeared on his face and it didn't escape Nana's keen eyes.
"You're here!" Melissa exclaimed happily. "Come, come, come. Let mom introduce you to a lovely lady." Melissa stood up and dragged her son to sit next to her.
The man obeyed but he kept his sight on her. Nana met his stare head on with a calm and steady mind. Whatever reason he had for staring at her with such nasty eyes, she wouldn't give in.
"Kirana, this man here is my one and only son. His name is Kevin. He is 32 years old, financially stable, but still single. He is quite handsome, right? Aunty didn't lie to you, right?" Melissa's eyes sparkled with excitement.
Yeah, Aunty didn't lie, Nana said inwardly. You just don't know that your son is more likely to prefer a gent rather than a belle.
"Kev, this young lady here is Kirana. She is lovely, right? Polite, pretty, lovely. Mom thinks she is a good match to you. She also looks young. What do you think?"
Nana smiled listening to her introduction. Melissa looked so eager to get them together. She might think that Nana was a twenty something years old young lady which was probably why she made the decision. What if she knew that Nana wasn't in her twenties anymore? A good chance to refuse this absurd conversation, she thought.
"I'm thirty one, Aunty."
"Oh my!" Melissa utterly looked surprised. She eyed Nana carefully and Nana prepared herself to hear, maybe, some hurtful words.
"That's even better!" Melissa's excitement turned up by a notch. She slapped her hand together and she couldn't take off her eyes from Nana. "Kevin, she has good gene! What are you waiting for?"
That definitely didn't go the way Nana wanted. The way Kevin looked at her seemed to change for a bit, but it didn't diminish his first attitude towards her.
"Mom, there are lots of women out there prettier than her, if that's what you're looking for." Kevin didn't even hide his contempt. He didn't hold back at all and said it right in front of Nana's face.
Fortunately, Nana wasn't the one who got offended easily since she thought this man and his mom weren't special for her. They barely knew each other, why should she feel offended with how they pictured her in their mind? They could talk all they wanted, it wouldn't devalue her worth at all.
But, she wasn't a pushover either. She might ignore one rude remark, but it didn't mean she would stay silent if the same thing happened twice.
"Kevin!" Melissa glared at him and pinched his thigh. "I know who you are talking about, but they are not as lovely as she is. You should trust my judgement on a girl!"
"Please, excuse his rudeness, Kirana. This boy doesn't know what's good for him and insists to be blind for a bit longer." Melissa had an apologetic look on her face.
"It's okay, Aunty." Nana waved her hand politely with a warm smile still plastered on her face. She didn't even spare the man beside Melissa another look. "My friend is here. I'm so sorry, but I need to go now. Do you mind if I leave first?"
"Of course no. You can go ahead. It's nice talking to you. Maybe if we're destined to meet again, can we talk more?" She reached out for Nana with a gentle smile.
"Of course, Aunty." Nana stood up and held Melissa's hands, reciprocating her good will. After all, Melissa was a good woman, but Nana couldn't say the same for her son.
After saying goodbye, Nana finally escaped from the absurd conversation and continued her previous plan. She walked towards her next destination, enjoyed the night activities around her, and tried to to forget the previous talk. She took some pictures on the way there and when she finally reached her destination, she picked her spot to sit and enjoyed the night scenery while scrolling on her phone.
Smile escaped her lips as she saw the pictures of Mu Yang and her being all lovey-dovey like a couple. Well, even if it was just for a short time, she had experienced the most beautiful relationship she could ever had in her life. Her eyes stung and her nose felt sour. Tears threatened to escape as soon as those memories flooded her mind again.
"Damn." Her curse came as a whisper. She looked up at the dark sky, willed herself not to cry over some memories.
"So, you lied to my mom, huh?" A not-so-familiar voice successfully ruined the mood and the tears that threatened to escape just now were just wetting her beautiful eyes.
