Chapter Twenty-Three
My heels click-clattered on the hard linoleum as I hurried for my usual coffee meeting with Ms. Brown. I hadn't seen her in almost a month and missed her motherly smile.
Thankfully, she was already seated when I entered the hospital restaurant. Given what happened between Dr. Robinson, the other doctors, and myself, I would have chosen somewhere else to eat, but eating at a new place meant adapting to a new environment.
And I wasn't inclined to visit another public place in case something happened, and I ended up freaking out.
"Good morning, Ms. Brown."
I sat down and grabbed the second cup of coffee on the table. I took several big gulps, exclaimed in pleasure, and placed the cup down.
"Hi, baby girl." She eyed me with a knowing smile and pushed a wrapped meal toward me. "You look happy. This Liam treating you well? "
I nodded, snatched the meal, and unfolded the wrapping.
