It was still dark and no light in the sky when Mortis woke up and quickly realized that he was one of the few who could sleep at all. Some did not know if he had so much self-confidence or was just an idiot. But no sooner had the thought occurred to the others than it disappeared, as nerves were on edge and almost everyone was desperate, but there were also those who could hardly wait for battle, including a group who confidently and boastfully went forward to join a higher troop. Mortis was with others at his level further back and quite on the edge, which Mortis assumes is also a rule for such a battle that from the center outward the monsters and humans must become weaker.
When the first rays of light reached the sky, it was slowly very loud, all stood up and prepared as some squad leaders and generals as well as the count held a speech to raise morale and call the soldiers and citizens again in spirit why they are here and if they protect. After that it became even louder and now everyone started stamping their feet and drums were beaten.
The monster camp did the same, this was the first fight who is louder and intimidates the other more. After a few moments a horn sounded and the monsters and undead ran towards the humans. The tanks raised their tower shields and braced for impact while healers shielded, bards and dancers all buffed.
Demons and skeletons crashed into the shields or tried to jump over them, which some did, but they were quickly dispatched by the melee fighters. Mortis threw his Ghost Scythe into the crowd above the tanks to damage many and to gain exp. He would have loved to jump into the horde in front of the tanks, but the formation was still stable and he didn't want to bring unrest into the ranks, many were looking at him anyway why he was on the battlefield with a scythe.
The first small wave was survived without casualties, but there was no one who was happy, because you could see how on the other side portals opened and more and more enemies appeared. There was a field visible through the portal that was as large as the battlefield and all filled with monsters and demons.
Different demon troops came through the portal some riding on demon dogs some had only lances others looked like mages as it seems the first wave was only there to burn but now the real enemies come. But before they can analyze what is still waiting for them, a second wave is rushing towards the humans, this time with better weapons and with buffs in luggage.
Stand your ground and knock them down! roared a voice over all the fields to give the people morale and support again. But this wave brought strong opponents with it and so there were the first losses of tanks close combatants or also with mages and healers because also the opponents now use magic and shoot with arrows on the rear rows. "Now the fun begins"
Mortis said that because now chaos broke out tanks yelling for healing healers yelling for protection dds yelling for buffs and everyone just fighting for themselves to survive any way. Mortis jumped forward 2 times to get at the mages like the healers of the demons to wreak havoc on them as well the difference was even if Mortis killed 30 the demons just kept advancing without even a hint of fear or losing their lives. The adventurers, however, managed to regroup after the initial shock and quickly formed small groups to defend themselves and protect the ranged fighters and healers.
Mortis kept working his way forward as there were so many enemies that his scythe swirl passive kept activating and he slaughtered his way through the enemies until he reached the group that kept moving forward and was now desperately crouching down to avoid being slain. The mage was very strong and bombed one enemy after the other with fire spells down but he could hardly still even if spells cost mana it was still very exhausting for him Mortis just wanted to jump back and continue to beat through enemies as the mage went mad and started yelling. System I need help make me think system fast I'm running out of mana!!!
Mortis was shocked was it normal in this world for people to have systems? No it's not but there are some who are blessed with one but find out which god he serves if it's the wrong one kill him and I'll destroy this system.
Mortis now jumped in front of the group many times and always threw a few ghost scythes to give the group some air then he ran in front of the mage it was a young man with long brown hair and hazel brown eyes who is very slim and tall. As soon as Mortis was in front of him the mage asked if he could suck mana from Mortis because he is a melee fighter Mortis nodded and gave him his hand which the man immediately took and sucked mana from Mortis but it didn't end Mortis his mana didn't decrease which shocked the young man.
I checked his god is a higher one who is above the amber of this world so make sure he stays alive he would make a good ally. Mortis pulled his hand away as he was starting to find it uncomfortable to shake hands with a man for so long. The mage was replenished and was about to ask who Mortis was, but Mortis jumped away to join the battle and went back to the rear to help his squad.
The mage and his party ran after him as he cut a swath through the monsters. Mortis was often hit by arrows, knives, swords but as long as no one cut off his head he could hardly die because every soul he collected healed him and replenished his mana and stamina and here people and monsters died every second especially near him.

Mortis arrived at his squad, which has now adapted well and has few casualties to suffer, he then went to a small group to support them when he noticed how the mage stood next to him with his men, drenched in sweat. "What do you want, you have mana now or do you want to stay on me like a leech, I'm sorry for you but I don't like men".
No, but it seems you don't run out of mana, so I wanted to stay and help, but if I run out of mana again, you could help me so we can defeat more enemies together and make it out alive. Said the mage. "Boy, this isn't Earth, be cool, but if you need help, I'll help you if you pay the right price. Oh, and one more thing, don't panic and tell me you have a system, if you had it wrong, I would have killed you already.
Mortis left the mage standing there with his mouth open and supported other small groups and brought them together with others to form larger troops again to ensure that no one was on his own and everyone had backup. Without wanting it, he now has his own soldiers because he was calm and rational as it seems, he also had a good eye and quickly grasp the events, which is why he started to give orders like when someone should retreat or when a squad should advance.
It didn't take long for more and more to join him his charisma was like a beacon of hope his bear deep voice attracted people even some enemies but everything that approached him died in seconds especially if they were in a big group.

Congratulations you have reached level 30. Spirit weapon has reached level 2. When you throw a ghost scythe, it stays where you want it to, spinning at a huge speed and creating a ghost vortex that pulls enemies to the center.
New ability gained. Weapons Graveyard. Many give names to weapons, so they get souls when they are destroyed, they end up in the realm of destroyed weapons, they can open this realm in a radius of 10 meters around them, so these broken or forgotten weapons appear from the ground and slash their enemies on their friends and companions nothing will happen. Cost 15 mana.
Mortis stood in front of his squad and told the others to retreat further, and immediately used his new ability as a circle of silver glowed and in one fell swoop shot out of the ground 1000s of different weapons that were rusty and broken but still poked through the enemies. It did not kill many but they bled, were poisoned and lost limbs.
The mages and others took advantage of the confusion and the situation to kill the crippled demons, even though they wondered what was happening, they were happy to gain the upper hand now.
