Chapter 43 - I am off then

Merlin asked Mortis about everything, because he didn't see Merlin as a threat, on the contrary, he liked his honest and young nature very much. He also learned that Merlin died on earth at the age of 17, so he is almost as old as he died.

Merlin was also a bit embarrassed because his friends had to walk while he was allowed to drive the carriage but he really wanted to talk to Mortis.

When Mortis wanted to ask some questions the carriage slowed down and then stopped Mortis wondered but when he looked ahead he saw that they were close to Bayreuth it seems they all almost ran home so they stopped to gather and the bards played music again and as they started they came home. When they entered the gate, the women and citizens stood at the windows or at the side and cheered the count and all the others from the battle, there were also many tears of joy and sorrow.

After the small procession, the troops spread out again and went to their family members who welcomed them warmly Mortis looked at everything because no one was waiting for him anyway a little sad because the mood was so Mortis also thought about how it would be to be received by loved ones.

But when he walked a few meters he was stopped by a knight who asked him to come to the castle. They took the back entrance as there is still too much hustle and bustle in the front, then Mortis was sent to a washroom to bathe himself while good new clothes were laid out for him to join the nobles later when they make a feast. A maid took his equipment and started to wash it immediately while Mortis lay in a tub and relaxed.

After 30 minutes, when the water was already cold, he stepped out of the tub and put on his fine red clothes, after which the knight came to pick him up and led him to the dining room of the castle. There Jochen was waiting for him and immediately pointed to an empty place next to him where Mortis should sit down.

Arrived at the table, he greeted Mortis once again like a friend he has known for a long time, which Mortis was somewhat pleased the whole crying people outside have pulled down his mood before quite beautiful. "How come you're here, you didn't tell me there was a battle coming up when I left". Oh that, I thought it would take you longer to get here and I didn't think you'd be drafted, you're pretty quick on your feet. Answered Jochen.

The room became lighter, solemn music was played and the Count with his wife and two daughters came out from behind a curtain and sat on their thrones. Mortis had a mischievous smile on his lips which surprised Jochen so he whispered in his ear. Why are you grinning like that? Mortis pointed to the 2 Countess' daughter and said loudly. "I know her, I helped her against bandits, she owes me."

Are you crazy? Now Jochen became loud and gave Mortis a head butt. At first it was quiet for a short while, then laughter broke out in the whole room, which didn't suit Jochen at all to be the center of attention of all the nobles.

The count heard what Mortis said and raised an eyebrow while he also smiled because of the scene then he stood up and asked everyone to be quiet because he now wants to hold a speech. His speech was more about praise for the soldiers, knights, adventurers, brave citizens and what a good job each noble did in his field.

After his speech, it became a bit emotional, especially when the count asked for a minute of silence for the fallen, to which all adhered to honor the dead. Mortis joined in although he noticed that the souls in his sea of souls did not move, they did not care about life and rather enjoyed the peaceful death.

After the minute of silence, the nobles were called to be rewarded for their hard work in the battlefield. There was usually gold or some land or a small wish was granted as for some luxury goods.

Then Jochen and Mortis were called at the same time, both bowing and waiting for their gift. The count took his time thinking about what to give them, Jochen he fed with gold but the problem was Mortis. When the Count was about to announce what he should give her, he was approached by someone who whispered something in his ear. Nodding and understanding, the count stood there and listened to everything, cleared his throat and said.

It seems you are not only a good warrior on the battlefield but a noble man on the streets now I know what you meant earlier that you saved my 2nd daughter and it seems that is true some servants can remember you they said you left after the help without even asking for anything now that I owe you 2 favors you are lighting a potion that can give all values plus 10 it is a very rare potion and almost a national treasure. What do you say?

"I already have such a potion but I like to take it. My wife will not be happy because it is hell to take it but it is helpful.

You have such a potion? Jochen and Graf asked, shocked. "Yes I do, just a moment." Mortis then took his potion out of the ring and showed everyone this potion then quickly put it back in. "Though I must say it won't be as painful as a hero potion that will make you suffer for more values like 10 days of torture." No heroic potions have been seen for over 1000 years, but now you're messing with us. Says the count. "Why should I? Besides, why should others see it? What idiot would sell it or show it to others?"

Well, we can check that. Servant, fetch the improved crystal! roared the Count and after only a few seconds a servant was next to him handing him a crystal Mortis turned to Jochen and asked. "Did I hurt his feelings? Or why is he so angry now. Jochen wanted to strangle Mortis at that moment, why can't he just accept something and just say thank you, no he always has to look for something better or just get what he wants.

The Count curiously and tensely handed Mortis the crystal. Mortis took it and poured his energy into it. The crystal showed all the values but the problem was that it only took 5 sp as standard for each level so 50% of all values were shown as bonus which amazed the count and Jochen even if you took all the potions you could on this continent you would not have plague values with your base. Not only that, but his class was not shown, only his potential, and it clearly said Hero.

The count called the servant who brought paper and a pen with ink and then they started to calculate but no matter how much they calculate his values are still higher than they should be with his base values and the count was not sure if Mortis even took the +10 potion.

In shock, the count simply asked. Have you already taken the +10 potion? "No, I haven't. I was going to do that tonight, and I was going to take another Mana +10 Potion. The Count was so shocked that he staggered backwards and sank onto his throne, then after a few seconds he started laughing and roaring into the crowd. We have a hero!

Many did not believe it and looked at the crystal and were also shocked at first Mortis was already uncomfortable because they looked at him as if he were a rare juicy piece of meat. So he simply said. "What is it now, I get the potion my wife needs it and I don't think you can give me anything else besides gold, which I can't get myself".

The count looked at Mortis in confusion and then handed him the potion. When Mortis pocketed the potion, he looked at William and said, "See you around. Then Mortis took advantage of the retreat and further away from the others he disappeared into a silver mist in the spirit realm, sat down briefly under a table and waited until everyone was ready to look for him, then when he realized that there was hardly anyone in the room he went behind the curtain, looked for an empty room and changed form.

With a sneaky smile he hovered over the city and made his way to the next cemetery. Since he planned to first change some there and then he would like to do the Lv 40 quest from the dead.

He loved the looks of the nobles when they were shocked but when he realized that they were making plans he was gone he did not want to be a hero for the people if then he is the hero for the dead.
