They all soon made it to their stop at the new lodging for the next week if everything went according to plan. The thirty minutes that Stone had estimated earlier certainly did take that long if not even longer since Charlotte was beginning to get sleepy in the backseat while Lucia was starting to fidget with her fingers in her lap.
The car soon slowed to stop when they made it to their station, and Charlotte got a good look at it since it was on her side. She was roused out of her sleepy state when she felt the car beginning to slow its pace and immediately became alert and awake due to the training and wake-up call that she had gotten over the last few weeks.
It had been a long time since she felt peace, but being away from the bustling city life was welcome in her books due to the weight that had been on her shoulders for the past few months. She was exhausted, and a breakaway in the woods was something that she didn't know that she needed.
Now that she was here, in the quietness and stillness of it all, it would drive others mad as it wasn't the typical scenery nowadays with the bright lights that had proven to work well for society, but out of context there both good and bad connotations to both the light and the darkness. It was just up to the individual person to take their pick.
Blinking one by one slowly, she took in their lodging with much ease. The cabin in the woods was much more futuristic and modern than Charlotte had first imagined since all the houses that they passed through the forest were all run down and built out of wooden logs that seemed well kept despite the moss and greenery starting to form on them.
The house was extremely large, almost an imposing figure out in the middle of nowhere. However, Charlotte kept her laugh to herself as she wondered if the house was even able to get electricity out here due to the extremely old-fashioned taste of the exterior and overall color and material in general.
Despite that, it was quite nice being out on acres out in the forest. The house blended in well, almost too well, so Charlotte guessed that the safe house served its purpose in that sense with the wooden logs stacked upon each other for walls and dark tinted windows that took in a measure of privacy.
The windows went all the way from the ceiling to the ground, so she was sure that the inside plans were also done to a somewhat modern taste. Charlotte yawned lightly after the long drive with her arm stretched slightly over her head.
Stone finally pulled into the driveway that curved around in a half-circle and was the first one to open the door while still seated to stretch her legs and take a deep breath for the crisp air before letting it all out in a satisfied sigh.
For housing around here, it definitely stood out with the rustic edge that was missing from the past few houses that were like extremely modern cabins in pictures that used to be only built out of wood from history books.
The cabins that she did see were mostly white with some black brick here and there, so the wooden house that they were about to walk into was certainly a change of pace.
"Everyone get out first," Stone said. "I'll go put the car into the garage."
"It doesn't even look like it'll have a garage," Lucia voiced slowly when Stone slid her a glance.
"It's in the back," he retorted.
"Shouldn't we unload first?" Charlotte asked as she got out with her boots crunching on the paved gravel.
"Head inside first," Stone ordered as he tapped his fingers on the steering wheel.
"Let's hurry and get everything unloaded in one go rather than taking our time out here."
Vincent nodded. "In the wilderness, it is to our advantage and disadvantage depending on how we use it."
"That is very true," Charlotte agreed. "You don't want to get ambushed out here correct?"
"Well, it would be hard for people to have trailed us this far," Lucia said as she pushed the car door open and stepped outside.
"Let's not take any chances," Stone sighed. "It's best to not make it seem as though there is no one living out here."
Vincent got out of the car and nodded. "Got it. I'll send a text out to Sonya that we got here safely with a burner phone inside."
"That's good. Make sure to send Hendrey an email too," Stone said as he leaned far over to grab the passenger side of the door and slam it closed.
