Vincent slammed the car door behind her, confining her inside the luxurious vehicle. Charlotte leaned her head back on the headrest, trying to find the right words to ask Vincent what happened.
He likely wouldn't tell her in full detail anyways, and Charlotte clenched her fist in irritation. Her life was crumbling around her, and Vincent was only standing by to watch it happen.
Vincent got into the driver's seat and started up the car. She turned her head out to look out the window since she couldn't stand the sight of him. Charlotte tried to calm her fiery heart and the pain from her body that was battered and bruised.
He remained silent, and she couldn't get her mouth to say something. Hopelessly tired, Charlotte closed her eyes for a moment to try and figure out her jumbled thoughts.
She covered her yawn with her palm, opening her eyes to see that they were now in a dark forest with nothing by trees and the bright headlights to be remembered. Charlotte shrieked in alarm and pressed her face to the window to see lanky trees whizz by.
They were on a long winding road that had many twists and turns, and she turned back to Vincent, putting a hand on his arm.
His eyes flicked over to her, and she breathed in deeply to try and voice the words that were getting stuck. Charlotte ran a hand through her hair and sighed, over the whole situation.
She bounced fast, but the frustration still lingered. "Where are we?"
"We'll be at my house soon."
Charlotte squeezed his arm. "Vincent..."
"I'm sorry. I'll explain more when we get you looked at."
She squinted her brows. "Looked at what."
His fingers tightened on the steering wheel. "At your arm."
Charlotte glanced down to see the gathering pool of blood on the leather seat. She grimaced. Her shirt was torn with what was left of the fabric haphazardly clinging onto her body from the wreckage of her home. "I'm sorry."
"Don't be," he growled. "I'm furious at your condition."
"If you're so furious at them doing this to me then why did you leave?"
"I can't have any ties with you."
"But they already know!"
Vincent sighed. "I've already told you that I've been careless."
"What am I going to do?" she yelled before sinking further down into her seat bringing her face down to her legs.
He ran a hand down her head. "I'll figure it out."
She peeked over her legs and shook her head in disbelief. This vampire was really messing with her head. The car abruptly turned to the right, and Charlotte put her hand out to brace herself from the jerk of the vehicle.
The car slid a bit making them drift, and Charlotte squeezed his arm again. She didn't expect him to be a reckless driver.
Vincent sharply completed the turn and started to descend a different route that wasn't even a road but a gravel path. The bumpy terrain was uncomfortable, as they jostled in the car for a long period in silence.
It was eerie in the darkest of the night, and the doubt started to creep in. He could kill her here with no one would be able to find her.
The trees turned into barren grasslands, but in the dark, she couldn't tell a thing about her surroundings. They curved above the steep hill of the gravel path, and bright lights made relief flood into her being. She was so excited to get out of the car after who knows how long, she had already slid to the front of her seat.
The path ended where smooth stone bricks began, and the ride became much smoother. There were many floral-looking trees planted around the huge house that came into her vision. Her mouth dropped in shock, as she took in the majestic mansion. It had to be the size of five houses combined.
There were many windows lining the front of the house where two main buildings stuck out. There was a water fountain near the entrance with a driveway curving around it that parked right in front of the mansion.
Vincent pulled into the driveway and stopped the car. She stared up at him in trepidation, and he finally unclicked his seatbelt and got out.
Charlotte pushed the door open and hesitated. Vincent came to stand next to her and stretched out his hand. She bit her lip and placed her shaking fingers into his hands.
He swiftly took her hand in his and walked up the steps to the main door that seemed to be a fortress. She trailed after him with her nose practically touching his back while quickly taking glimpses of the world around her.
It all seemed to be a mirage since it was beautiful. The twinkling lights from the lanterns hung on the sides of the house illuminated the area with a whimsical glow.
The mansion was built out of stone brick similar to the path leading up with a gorgeous balcony that spanned the entire front of the mansion.
