(Connor POV)
As I made my way down towards the moving stair case I passed Derrick and entered the room we shared. Since she was coming sooner or later I should at least be prepared.
Grabbing my equipment and putting on my camoed pants and jacket, put my armor under my jacket and shirt, and put on my lucky hat. I had this hat for a good while and it was also there when I needed it.
Exiting my room in my outfit I got confused looks from the other kids as they were in the clothes I wore yesterday. The dumb cape, shirt, and pants.
I walked towards to staircase door and opened it to reveal the moving staircases. I looked at it for two seconds and gave up even trying to make my way down. They probably moved in an order I could memorize but I wasn't in the mood to try. Instead I just shouted hoping she would hear my call.
"McGonagall we need magic shit and sense I don't want to go down the stairs, can you come up help us and then we can do the magic class stuff you talked about."
I minute or so passed as I stood by the entrance waiting for her when I heard distant footfalls echoing up. I turned around knowing she was coming and made my way to the door.
I crouched next to the lock and noticed that it was completely destroyed, Derrick picked it but this looked to be done by something blasted in.
I stood up and saw McGonagall entering the doorway, "So it began," she said while walking towards us.
"What began," Leah said while they all started to converge onto her like vultures on roadkill.
"We have chosen you five for your spectacular abilities in your fields. You all did things that even made us impressed when picking our new transfers. So to make you accustomed to each other the other teacher made a game for you, though this seems to be more like a hunt. You search for him in the day, and he comes after you at night," she said moving me and looking at the lock.
"Fuck this shit man," I said while walking towards the stairs pulling out my sidearm. Everyone looked at me in shock while McGonagall gave the gun a once over looking confused.
"What, never seen a gun before," I asked all of them but to McGonagall in particular for the weird look she gave my gun.
"Is that what that is," she said answering my slight jab at her, "It seems important for you sense it isn't entirely what it once was."
"Doesn't matter if it's changed our 'hunter' or what ever is gonna have a hole between his eyes," I said while trying to figure out the stairs pattern.
"Actually you know what," I said while walking back to group, "If he is a part of the facility then he knows magic, so why don't we go threw this learning process of magic and counteract it."
"Then come with me," McGonagall said walking towards the stair case. The other students all stood in stunned silence at my conversation with her but shook out of it and made their way after us.
We walked past multiple paintings and I started to question the other kids about what they did that was so amazing. The girls talked about how smart they were and what they used that knowledge for, but I only half listened, because it made me know they were of no physical threat to me. Derrick however was a strong man who excelled in most sports, he was perfecting his boxing abilities before getting this letter. I knew that Derrick wasn't the smartest but he did pick a lock into a room, not the most common ability someone like him should have.
We found ourselves in front of a door after a long walk and conversation what the hell we think is happening and ways to prevent it. Everyone seemed pretty relaxed for know that they were being hunted, but they are "exceptional young students" according to McGonagall, so what do I know.
We went inside and saw desks and seats with large white boards behind a large central desk. I walked in and sat down in a front row seat. The other students soon were seated and McGonagall began to teach us of common history of magic and stuff we should know for our first day with the other students.
She soon stopped as it was nearing lunch and she lead us to a large hall lined with tables and benches that had only a couple tables set up currently. The room had floating candles floating around the ceiling which seemed to reflect the hat was happening outside.
"This isn't its full grandeur, but you'll see it eventually," she said while we were sitting at the table.
The table had tons of "American" food like a cheeseburger, and which was fine but it seemed like they tried to make it worse somehow, like trying to replicate fast food in a five star restaurant. There was also more exquisite food like the steak and potatoes which seems more of like a transition food.
It seems like they are trying to acclimate us to both being magic and in Britain. We didn't have our usual food so they gave us at stuff close and more adventurous stuff to try and eat more of the fancy magic British food they serve. I couldn't care though cause it was tasty no matter if it magically appeared in the empty platter I put back.
As we made our way back to the classroom, McGonagall spoke to us more of the facility and of the game we're in.
