And in that split second the nurse drops her tray as she breaks free from my grip and reaches behind her back to pull out a small pistol which she aims at Kira.
Without even thinking I tackle the nurse causing the gun to discharge a round into my left shoulder, but I'm able to use my casted right arm to smack the pistol away ignoring the piercing pains across my body thanks to the adrenaline flowing through my veins as I take the nurse to the ground and we begin to wrestle.
"Lance!" I hear Kira shout
She punches and kicks me with all she has, but my boxing training back in highschool wasn't for nothing, despite exacerbating my wounds from the car accident I'm able to keep her from rebreaking any of my bones. At the cost of remaining on the defensive…
Until she is able to push me off her so she can make a break for the exit, only stopping when another loud *BANG* rings out as the nurse falls like a puppet with its strings cut and I turn to see Damon holding the pistol that the nurse had dropped.
The nurse spits out a mouthful of blood as she tries to crawl her way to the door, only for Damon to place his heel on the bullet wound on her back, making her cry out in agony.
"AHHH!" She screams.
"Who… Sent… You…" Damon asks, each word punctuated by the grinding of his heel into the nurse's back and her screams of pain in response.
It's then that two men in black suits burst in with their pistols drawn, only for Damon to raise his hand in a stop motion. Making the men halt, lowering their guns to aim at the nurse awaiting his orders.
"I'll ask you one more time… Who… Sent… You…" Damon asks again, this time stomping on the bullet wound with each pause until the woman finally relents and names who sent her.
"The Ruby Angels! The Ruby Angels, now just make it stop!" The woman begs as Damon turns to the men.
"Lois, Marco, take care of this trash." 'The Demon' says, as any trace of the awkward and kind Damon that I'd come to know was gone, all that remained was a ruthless calculating beast… A very pissed off beast…
And then, like a switch was flicked when the men in suits drag the bleeding woman away that the Damon I know returns and checks on Kira.
"Kiranne! Are you okay?" Damon asks with panicked concern in his voice as he rushes to her side only for her to smack him across the face.
"You idiot! I'm not the one shot and bleeding out on the floor! I'm fine check on Lance!" Kira exclaims as she redirects Damon to me as he immediately springs into action, giving me a tourniquet and pressing the summon doctor button on the side of Kira's bed.
"Thank you, Lance. You saved our lives." Damon says as the doctor comes in and sees the scene before him.
"Oh, did he find out about your dalliances with the Young Miss?" The doctor says causing our three faces to all go pale for various different reasons.
