After composing herself, mom turns to Damon and asks, "Is what Lance saying true?" She says staring into his soul and if I didn't know he just shot someone and most likely sent them to their death... I'd swear he just shivered in fear.
Damon looks to me before looking to my mother and nodding in affirmation.
Mom sighs, "Alright, I apologize for my incorrect assumptions of your character."
"It's no prob-" Damon starts to say before I scream out in pain.
"And you! What were you thinking tackling someone with a gun?!" Mom shouts nearly ripping my ear off the side of my head, pulling me from the several-inch difference so that we are eye to eye as she continues ripping me a new one.
"What?! Do you think you're invincible or something!" Mom shouts at me.
"Mom! Stop! You're going to rip my ear off!" I plead with her.
"I ought to do that! Maybe next time you'll think before getting hurt!" She retorts twisting my ear for a final time.
"So your solution for keeping me from getting hurt is to rip my ear off?! Are you crazy!" I shout rubbing my ear.
"If I am crazy, it's because you drove me to it you crazy boy!" Mom says before pulling me into a hug almost as fierce as her ear pulling making me worried she's going to re-crack my ribs.
"Don't ever do anything that reckless again! Promise me!" She says before breaking out into tears.
Making a pit of guilt, that hurt worse than the bullet, form deep in my stomach for making her worry so much.
*Cough, cough…*
Damon coughs making my mom realize there is still someone watching her meltdown and she straightens her messed-up clothes and wipes away her tears before addressing him.
"I'm sorry, is there something you need, Mr.?" She asks as this is her first time actually meeting Damon and I never told her about my private study sessions with him as I scheduled them for when she wasn't around.
"Just call me Damon, Ma'am." Damon says with a cordial smile, "And yes, my father would like to thank Lance personally. After he is up and about of course."
"That's thoughtful of him, what is it that he does for a living?" Mom asks starting to steer the conversation into dangerous waters.
"He… Is a self-made man, you could say. Built his organization from the ground up. Much like yourself." Damon compliments.
"Then I would be delighted to meet with him in the meantime." My mom offers.
"Unfortunately my father is a busy man. That's why he offered to wait until Lance was fully healed as it allowed him to make an opening in his schedule. Though I'm sure you could attend the meeting." Damon assures her.
"Then alright. Now if you'll excuse us." Mom says, showing Damon out of the room before pulling me and Sammy who had been silent in shock, in for a hug. "I think its been a long day and we could all use some rest."
"Yeah… My ear's killing me." I say eliciting a chuckle from all three of us.
