I had waited years for senior year. It was the last year of high school, and I was applying to colleges and graduating and couldn’t wait.
I was standing at my locker when Liz walked up and opened hers.
/"You don’t seem happy,/" I said.
/"It’s school. Why should I be happy?/"
/"We’re seniors and graduating./" I smiled.
/"Without boyfriends./"
/"Who cares? I’m fine without one./"
/"Patty, you weren’t allowed to date until you were sixteen, and you have never been on a date./"
/"Shh./" It was bad enough that everyone at school found out about that stupid rule, and I didn’t need people to know I never had a boyfriend.
