Chereads / THE MONSTER SYSTEM / Chapter 40 - I ALWAYS REPAY A FOUL WITH A FOUL

Chapter 40 - I ALWAYS REPAY A FOUL WITH A FOUL

"Ugh...that transfer to my body doesn't always go right," I muttered, some wooziness blurring my vision as I sat upright on my bed.

So the system this time chose to remain normal seeing that I'm still in my room and(no surprise) a certain someone was still in my bed sleeping soundly. That last message from Bradley... I'll have to meet his boss to understand what would warrant such a strong reaction.

Now, about my roommate...

"Should we switch beds or something? Hmm... We'll cross that bridge when I feel like it," I sighed as I watched Arnold slowly turn in his sleep.

I checked my watch to confirm the time.

"Six in the morning?!" I exclaimed in shock. I think I might have been a bit too loud cause Arnold just now woke up.

"What....now?" he asked as he rubbed his eyes.

"Oh, sorry about that. Wait, more importantly, why didn't you wake me up yesterday?!"

"It's too early for this. You think I didn't try? After you fell asleep, you were out like a log. I left you be for the time being but right after supper tried to get you upbut failed miserably," he answered drowsily.

"The guys pulled up too, once supper was done, and they too tried waking you up with various methods but–"

"Hold up. Pause. They were here?" I interrupted him before he finished his statement.

"Y...yeah? Why?"

I wasted no time and sprinted to the nearest mirror to see what my so called 'friends' did to me while I was asleep. Like they would ever have a good heart to wake me up without doing something. Huh, just as I suspected....

"Arnold... what's drawn on my face?" I asked him with a smile that didn't reach my eyes. He turned his head away from me and began whistling.

"Not gonna talk, ey?"

Good, I needed test subjects anyways. Bradley said I could cast basic spells right? Let's put that to the test, shall we?

I raised my right hand and envisioned something that's always called a good boy, always never bites and of course, goes by the initials 'cupcake'. That's right ladies and gentlemonsters, I summoned the largest, most meanest pit bull I could ever conjure up in my mind!

I could see the fear growing deep in his eyes when Arnold saw the mutt in front of him. Of course, it was just a projection cause I couldn't summon it out of the blue but he didn't know that.

"Let me rephrase my earlier question. Who drew the butt on my face? Answer correctly, anything less and big boy here gets mad. And yes Arnold, he does, in fact, bite," I smiled evilly at him and made the pit bull dog growl.

"Ah, I see. So I'm just wondering, who gave her the tools to draw?"

"T–that would be me," Arnold answered fearfully as the pit bull stood menacingly in front of him. I snapped my fingers and the pit bull barked. Arnold instinctively flinched and backed even farther into my bed.

"Tsk. Tsk. Tsk. You brought this upon yourself, Arnold. But, since you told me the truth, I guess I can spare you," I called the pit bull back.

Arnold smiled thankfully and relaxed just a little bit, then I knew it was the perfect moment.

"You know what? I change my mind. May be just the legs. SICK'EM BOY!"

"WAIT NO! NOOOOO!"

The poor lad's mind couldn't handle all the stress and fear so he passed out immediately before his mind could register that it was a fake.

"That's one down. Let the games begin!" I cackled like a maniac, rubbing my hands and all that villainy stereotype, plotting for my next victim.

Arnold later regained consciousness and I patiently waited for him to be ready so that we can walk down to hall together. He was still scared of where the pit bull went so I had to promise him that I wouldn't summon it again (crossed my fingers) cause he wouldn't even bathe unless I assured him.

We eventually made our way to the cafeteria and found the rest of the gang set on one table, a few of them looking surprised that their little 'gift' they left me was no where in sight.

"Slept well, Max?" Blade asked once we sat down after grabbing breakfast.

"Like a baby," I answered the detail artist.

"You guys heard about today?" Bareth inquired.

"Heard what?" everyone asked curiously.

"Today, they'll announce the winners of Friday's excavation. They are even saying that the first years did a whole lot better than second years,"

"Really?" I wondered.

"I'm sure our class won this round," Arnold smirked.

"We'll see about that. Especially when you hear what I did for my... " Blade stopped talking when he felt something wasn't right. He sniffed the air then stared at me." Do... do you smell something?" he asked.

"I'm not sure what you are talking about?" I said and took another large bite of my bun.

"Blade, why are you smoking?" Emily asked.

"I'm always smoking hot. You just noticed now?" he bragged at the table.

"No, like, you are seriously smoking!"

"Huh?" he looked confused then faced downward.

"MY PANTS ARE ON FIRE!" he screamed in horror and leaped off the table to roll around and try killing the flame.

Everyone in the hall panicked, even the teachers, who rushed in with buckets of water to help out. Everyone tried to join in but no one noticed the Furrha calmly drinking his juice, a small smile formed on his face.

That makes two.

After that commotion, everyone calmed down and continued with their breakfast. Blade was escorted to the med bay by one of the teachers (boxers visible) to check for any injuries. But I knew he was going to be OK. I mean, it was my flame after all.

"Good morning kids. It's time for the normal announcements. Let's start with the state of other camps," Mrs Kelly began as she stood confidentiality at the podium with a small form on her left hand.

"Thanks to an anonymous tip, we were able to prevent five camps from any danger. No casualties were reported this time and we are finally able to predict their movements."

I zoned out when she began announcements about school stuff but at the same time I was thinking about those words in my dream. Who's voice was that that told me it wanted to see what I'd do? Something's not right here. I can feel it, I just don't know what.

"....finally, the excavation results. As usual, we always start with second years."

Everyone's attention was now glued on Mrs Kelly.

"At first place, as usual, is Two North, with a whooping one hundred and fifty thousand beast essence! That's a new record, even by North standards!"

Claps were evidently heard as everyone congratulated the class.

"Second is West with a good one hundred and thirty, third place is East with one hundred and twenty essence and finally south with ninty thousand beast essence. A clap for everyone please."

They were all congratulated and the North class representative grabbed their trophy. I could feel the pressure they were giving off, like they were superior than us in every way possible. The North two students all looked at south, their message crystal clear that this is what they are capable of. Snobs.

"We are finally coming up to our last year so settle down," Mrs Kelly reminded everyone. I could feel the tension spreading as I believe everyone heard the rumours. I glanced at a particular teacher who seemed to be nursing her cheek, glaring at Flintheart, who completely ignored her.

"I feel obligated to start with the last class, as voted by all teachers. Starting at last, Class East has gained around ten thousand beast essence, understandibly because they lost their rep and with him too their moral. We are still searching for the culprit who did this but rest assured, we will find him and punish him accordingly."

The was a respectable clap from the whole hall, everyone turning to the One East class who looked dejected. Mason said he wasn't the one who did that to Jay so I have to wonder, who?

"With that out of the way, let's move on to the third class," she continued. I sensed daggers at my back and turned back to the students tables. Some guys were glaring at me, while I had no idea who the bozos were.

"They are West students. Remember, not only students from North are the snobby ones," Arnold whispered in my ear.

"West has always made it to position two, competing favourably with us. Until, of course, you guys came along. Now two West are beating down their minors, so they are projecting their hatred to the main man of South, you." Arnold continued.

So that's how it is. I winked at the class and blew them a kiss. I could literally see the veins popping off their heads after that one gesture. Let them come. I welcome any and all enemies.

"...is West with a large amount of one hundred and twenty thousand beasts essences! A good clap for them please," some faces around dropped down in shock, especially the second years. That high and they were in third place?! Time for the moment of truth.

"Second place... Wow! One hundred and seventy thousand beast essences?! I immediately retract my statement of record broken cause this here is just around leaps and bounds! Such points would be enough to power the entire school for years to come! Can the representative of North please come up and receive a record award!"

Silence circled all around the school. The whole school just stared plainly at the principal, until Flavo walked up with his shoulders slumped down in defeat. Mrs Ivory looked smug, forgetting that the principal hadn't mentioned the first Class.

Flavo took the trophy but only one person looked to have been clapping. That started a chain reaction but everyone clapped numbly, knowing who the actual winners were. I could see our class trying to hold back their excitement but I was pretty sure another lap around school was in order.

"OK students and teachers, in first place with... with... Um....students, I'm going to have to ask you to excuse me for a moment," Kelly stuttered and marched to General Zard with the form on her hand outstretched out towards him.

Zard stared deeply at the paper then called on Flintheart to join him. Murmurs began to spread around the hall but were were all quietened down when the principal walked back to the podium.

"I can't believe what I'm about to say but before anything, can South's representative please walk to the front,"

I stood up proudly and walked up to the principal, all the while enjoying the look of shock plastered on Mrs Ivory's face. I whispered to her, ' nice try ' and watched as her shock turned to full on rage.

"Mandrax Randolf, please explain to us how in the universe did your class manage to attain two hundred thousand beast essence!"

"Two...TWO HUNDRED THOUSAND?!" I spat in utter shock. The whole hall erupted in chaos when they too heard what she said. I knew we had the one hundred, don't tell me... him?

I searched for Clive in the crowd and saw him on a table with my previous party. He winked at me and smirked.

"I–I... that's a secret Mrs Principal," I answered when everyone had calmed down.

"Forget powering the entire school, we'll have to contribute a whole lot more to the other camps just as not to waste even a little bit of it! I don't know what you kids did but well-done , very impressive,"

How come Mrs Ivory today has chosen to remained sil– oh I see. The class teacher for I'm guessing West was holding on to her. She had passed out in shock.

"Here you are Max. You guys have earned it," Principal Kelly stated as she handed me an extraordinary trophy that glowed a powerful orange. "This time, due to their achievements, I'm granting One South one hundred points for the inter class competition!"

The whole hall roared in protest but were immediately overpowered by both one and two south classes who screamed in glory. I was just about to head back and join them but felt a hand on my shoulder.

"School dismissed! Max, hand over your trophy to your class teacher. I've got something to talk to you about," Principal Kelly requested. I did as told and soon after was in her office.

She wasted no time and droped the bomb shell on me, "It's time you fulfilled your roll as the Adamantium warrior. You're going for the Demomight meeting, as ordered by the Beast King,"

"HUH?!"
